Look a few posts above yours. Most likely you need to install and configure Java 7.
I have mac version 10.6.8, and on the java website it says 10.6 isn't supported for java 7, Does that mean all 10.6 versions or certain 10.6 versions aren't supported?

Hi~ I have small problem with NEI and Ender Storage. I'm currently playing on version 1.6.4 with 1.6.4-Forge 9.11.1.965. The problem occurs when I'm trying to launch game, launcher works perfectly, pressing "play" button, and I'm back in the launcher .~. I'll leave list of mods and log down here

I have mac version 10.6.8, and on the java website it says 10.6 isn't supported for java 7, Does that mean all 10.6 versions or certain 10.6 versions aren't supported?

so my problem with NEI is that it wont show me the modes, it wont let me use cheat mode, or util mode, its like its froze on recipe mode (it wont show the trash can though), ive COMPLETELY deleted the config, the mod, the base game, started from the ground up changed the configs, ingame options, EVERYTHING and nothing helps, idk what to do please help.

This bug has to do with NEI and the tooltips or in other words when you look at an item it shows what you are looking at by showing the name and a pic of the object. The mod is "Lots of Food" and how this bug works is you walk into a Sweet House and where there are 3 cakes right at the door, If you have tool tips on you will crash if you look directly at one of them. The funny thing is the game will not crash if you type in the cake names and look at the recipes!? If tool tips are off you can look at the cakes for days and no crash!

By default NEI is locked in Recipe mode. Open NEI Options (lower left corner), go to Inventory. Press the "Global" button in top right so it changes to "World" and small "W" icons show up. The you can change the mode by pressing the "Recipe Mode" button.
This must be one of the most asked questions here (I asked it myself some time ago). Perhaps this indicates that this part of the user interface is not very intuitive?

I have confirmed the same NEI highlight tool tip bug. I was working on a mod pack of my own and kept crashing my Minecraft 1.7.2 client when playing on a Vanilla Minecraft server. I have removed every single mod exept NEI CodeChickenCore and Forge itself and I can recreate the crash perfectly any time i want. In my case I have found that if a block behind the tool tip is moved like with a piston the client will crash every time. With nothing but basicly NEI installed and playing on a vanilla 1.7 server with no special blocks client still crashes.

Next I'm going to test if WAILA fixes the problem. Although I would rather not install it in my mod pack since it really isn't necessary in a vanilla server environment

If you're moderately technical, it is possible to install JDK 7 on OS X 10.6.8.
Download the DMG from Oracle:

I have confirmed the same NEI highlight tool tip bug. I was working on a mod pack of my own and kept crashing my Minecraft 1.7.2 client when playing on a Vanilla Minecraft server. I have removed every single mod exept NEI CodeChickenCore and Forge itself and I can recreate the crash perfectly any time i want. In my case I have found that if a block behind the tool tip is moved like with a piston the client will crash every time. With nothing but basicly NEI installed and playing on a vanilla 1.7 server with no special blocks client still crashes.
