For anyone not wanting to bother with messing around with the instructions, if you have forge modloader then you can just put the zip file thats in the zip file in the mod file and done. start up mine craft. then die. over and over without consequence.
Honestly, I wish there was way more in the way of controlling difficulty through death.
Like the following...
Keep Inventory = True (keep or lose just the 3x9 inventory items.)
Keep Hotbar = True (keep or lose just the hotbar items.)
Keep Armor = True (Keep or lose just the armor you are wearing.)
Keep XP = True (Keep or lose your XP, or even a HalveXp option?)
This way you can set your difficulty how you want it. Sometimes I would like to have a survival game where I don't want to lose my hotbar items and armor, but still want to have some difficulty of losing my inventory items, so dying isn't just a "big whoop, I died." situation. but also isn't the "ARGH I LOST EVERYTHING!!!" situation.
Other ideas...
Keep armor, tools, weapons, but add damage to them upon death.
Set how many hearts you return to life with, like with only 3 hearts. Zelda style.
Lose X number of random items from your inventory, armor or hotbar. (all separate settings) So you tale the "lose some, but not all", even further.
Item protect whitelist, any item ID listed under this section in the config would never be dropped on death, so you can make "soul bound" or "protected" items, for story mod maps. Wouldn't want the player losing something important on death.
I wanted to ask; for your next update of the mod, and as a way to extend it on top of what "/gamerule keepinventory" already provides, could you make it possible for some percentage of the items in your inventory to be randomly dropped on death (configurable)?
So rather than losing ALL your items, or keeping ALL your items, you might lose only 1/4 or 1/2 or some other randomly-chosen slice of your inventory total (ideally set in a config file).
I think the other suggestions Blue001 makes above would also be excellent for this mod as well. (Perhaps the inventory drop rates/drop method could be specified per dimension/world, even.)
I know I would really appreciate and use this mod if such features could be added. Thanks!
Yes... yes yes. Everyone knows you can do this with cheats enabled. ...As stated above many times, this mod is for those who want to Keep Inventory On Death WITHOUT turning cheats on. I don't want to be tempted with all the other cheats. I only want the keep inventory cheat. If I have the others, I will eventually use them and then feel bad. I have no will power for available cheats. LOL
Any-who.. I did not post just to clarify the reason we want the mod for the nth time. I just want to add my own request for an update of this mod. It is the only mod left keeping me from updating my world. ..or rather, keeping me from PLAYING in my updated world.
you can already do this in vanilla minecraft, how useless. I hate seeing people make a keep inventory on death mod because whats the point if its already possible? 0/5
oh, and for all the people who say "this mod is so you don't have to be tempted to use the other cheats when you do it in vanilla" this mod does really FIX that as it isn't a bug that just means you people have bad morals and can't resist the urge to cheat
@glider521al - If you add any of the things I suggested six posts up to your mod, people would stop saying this is useless. I understand why it's good as is and it's not useless, but lots of others are just being impossible and don't read the posts. May as well give them "more" features so people can see the worth in this.
you do know that while making a new world and setting cheats to on, you can just type in /gamerule keepIventory true
and have no need for this.
good lord. like 50 people have come here to say the same thing. And you know what... they have stated in the original post, that this is for people who want to use this AND DONT WANT to use "cheats ON" on their world.
That works in vanilla. Simple as that...
really hope this is gonna be updated.
they want you to like a page and some other crap just to download it

XP
Not really, I was coming here to say that though.
Also for everyone who wants this for 1.5.1 +
Go on your server and do /gamerul keepInventory true
And that should be done :l
