The Shovel of Renewal (coming in next update) already got that unfortunately.
Right-click ideas are welcome too.
They already till dirt with a right-click and nobody uses hoes to break stuff, personally I'd put the bonemeal effect on the hoe's left-click and give the shovel something else.
As for the sprite, if you go with life/vis a pink or grass-green aura would look neat.
Lets just ignore all update related remarks, they are not worth of effort of acknowledging.

Wouldn't it be awesome that if you were to wear the google that they would gave off some kind of HUD or masking like the pumkin do?
Like some kinda of arcane view or something. That way they have more of an impact on the player visually.

If it's possible, it'd be cool if they changed the background fog or sky color to match the local aura levels. Usually a dusky purple, but high-aura areas would become pale pink and tainted areas are shrouded in black fog.

I don't know if it's too late to change the shovel or not, but I'd prefer a slightly more original right click for this anyway.
Perhaps raise a one-block column (all the way from bedrock, but not including bedrock) up one block at a time?

IMO, milling cobble/gravel/sand down into gravel/sand/clay. Raising a temporary earth platform could be neat, less gravel-stacking to climb up and down caves.
All just ideas for if there's ever a life-magic hoe, of course. Four elemental tools is a good number.

Purple tint of the world, and you can see random spots or clouds of vis and taint (Depending on your aura), just to make it fun
Ok people, stop asking for that update. I want it as bad as you do, but you don't see me spamming up the forum with "encouragements" to azanor for the update. Be patient. Be proactive. Clear out a spot for your new lab. Read over the changelog and proof-see your lab layout. Do something else besides waste space on here.

the retro texture pack is coming along pretty nicely, realizing how much the duplicator has changed has filled me with dread though :<
(and I've got bits of stone floating around the infuser somehow...)
I quite like what I've done with the monoliths though , I wasn't sure whether or not displaying the 3d ender portal effect would mean it still renders, so I made the eldritch stuff obsidian (so it looks like the old obelisks) ,and made the runes the 3d effect (sort of the reverse of now, with solid runes on a 3d monolith) (I also added the old runes to the sides of the monolith as well
I made the storage tanks look like the nodes, unfortunately, since they are just boxes now, I couldn't do the little cubes on the corners, but I did make the corners gold, so they look similar
the items are relatively easy, but I'm going to have to think about which essences fit the old symbols best (eg flint = tainted)
the seals will be interesting, I'm going to need to figure out how to best show the essences, but I have a few ideas.
all in all, this has been fun so far, I can't believe I've never seriously tried to make a texture pack before
and now off to bed

edit: for theshovel, why not do like wizardcraft's earth staff? it raises any ore beneath the block you clickon, to the surface (it was really good to be able to mine ore without damaging any caves )
This mod is all about balance, that would make it end game and would be OP as hell. You need to be thinking about Balance over all.

but use durability for each block moved, and make an item that moves a column down

The milling down into finer materials was a nice suggestion too, but it doesn't seem as useful as the other tools'.
