Re: "infinite" vis from CoS: not really. I mean yeah, theoretically, if you just let minecraft idle minimized for hours on end between play sessions you can fill some vis tanks up with a mob grinder, but that's stupid. I can do the same thing with a vis crystal garden + (spoiler item) and get much faster, much higher vis output using condensers or just feeding the crystals to a crucible. I can plant additional crystals during every cycle, increasing output exponentially for idle time. Top of head estimate, I can produce about 2-3 crystals per hour per block. Plant about 20 crystals... yeah, never gonna run out of crystals. I can even automate this using redpower if I'm careful about timing.
CoS? Nope. Mob spawn is basically a fixed rate with a plateau of the maximum mob grinder size you can build within the radius around your avatar that mobs will spawn (I think this is ~64x64x256 on an anvil map). The only way to make more is to farm ghasts, which can't be automated, and then you still have to feed it with more mob grinders. If you want to scale this up beyond the radius that mobs will spawn from your player you need to have additional chunks loaded, which means another mod with forced chunk loading and spawning. Then your max vis performance is capped by the limitations of your computer, and you're *still* waaaaaaaay less efficient than building a similarly sized crystal farm.
Points about crystal farming being OP aside, CoS is not "infinite", it's finite at a miniscule level (with the multi-CoS exploit fixed, which is definitely fair). It only becomes infinite as your play time becomes infinite. In the time your single-CoS mob grinder produces an equivalent amount of vis to a crystal farm, let alone active resource gathering, I will have died of old age IRL.
And for the reeds part? Make some Boots of Striding and go for a run. If you have the Seven Boots, use those. Then come back and tell me if you want the jumping sound to be the Ice Climbers jump sound too.
I'm on day two my good samaritain. I don't think I can afford that when my house looks like this:
For the jumping sound I could probably do that myself if i converted the sound file and properly renamed it. (might screw up if its used for anything else tho. :P)
I'd totally love it if it was.
Ok, stop right there. Tell me how to post pictures, I wanna show people my fail-house after about a month in-game.
if you use photobucket it gives you the code you need already in the IMG thingie on the side, otherwise just right click the image you want to link to and select copy image location. then stick that url it gives you inbetween an image tag. [.img]url[./img]
Without the periods of course. Its standard BBCode, and if you find a forum that does it differently, its a derpy forum.
EDIT: you can also just click the picture icon in the post section and paste the url in there.. but I find that more annoying to do.

1. Have Portal Gun.
2. Move Spawner under house.
3. Crucible of Souls near spawner.
4. Win.
5. There is no ???
6. You are in the Matrix.
... This is good, because taint won't be a hazard, but it gets annoying and I think it is making my Minecraft run out of memory. Anyone else's thoughts on this?
You're going to just have to deal with it sadly. TC2 is very memory heavy because of the particle effects and all the other things it introduces.
Monster spawners don't spawn fast enough, and portal gun is not TC2 The vis output of a spawner + necessary space for the monster to spawn reliably is possibly lower than a crystal garden of same size. Not sure on that, don't know vis value per crystal, but given that crystal gardens can stack more compactly than spawners... Skeleton spawner would be the best bet since arrows are surprisingly valuable, but they're somewhat more rare than zombie or spider spawners in my experience.
As I said earlier I've already got 4 spawners pumping out 2 mobs each every 30 seconds or so (CoS eating about 8 of them at a time at a constant rate) and the drops produced are worth many multiples more vis than the mobs themselves. This is wonky. I'm considering removing the CoS because all it's really doing is polluting my pipes and wasting space on extra filters. In fact auto-feeding a thaumium crucible with the drops is probably the right way to go. Right now I could use the multi-CoS exploit but that's beside the point since this is already fixed in the new version.
Anyway, combine enough mods together and you can find a million infinite resource exploits (here's looking at you, EE...). A developer can't take every mod in existence into account, but even a realistic mob spawner grinder scenario the CoS is a nearly pointless and problematic addition to the system.
Y YOU NO RESEARTCH! hehehe. reasearch is the answer.
LOL @woody pic Where in general should I?(i've been to the wiki, google & yahoo) but i'll admit i can be lazy at times, but with a mob this awesome you'd (I'd I guess) think it would be easy to get information on.

You'd think, but the maker of this mod likes to keep things cloaked in an aura of mystery. The wiki gives you enough to get started and that's it. The fun part of this mod is bashing your head against the wall trying to figure it out.
I think its lost knowledge but I've completely forgotten.
it takes 2 full tanks of pure vis to dupe even one though, you may just not have enough
Ok, I swear to god i'm doing something wrong here. I'm on my test world, have a stack of two tanks with a conduit going right into the duplicator, and they're full to the brim with pure Vis.
Have I screwed up somewhere?

Pure Vis? Taint might be clogging the conduit.
I ask as you didn't mention what you used to get the Vis.
No no no! Taintacles are only a smaller part of the monster! You can only really kill it by removing the tainted core from its head!
Those things you see are but small manifestations of its power. D:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In all seriousness I like your idea of taintacles better. however that would probably get annoying after a while. :<
That reminds me of the tentacles from the first Dead Space that would try to pop out and eat you.

I've confirmed on my test world that Duplicator does not work on Totem of the Dawn. Tested with both pure vis, pure taint and both. Tested with default Duplicator, Duplicator + Quicksilver, and Duplicator + Stabilized Singularity. Tested with and without magic/magic/magic boosters. It does not work.
Here ya go!
heh.
I think i chose the worst seed ever for a world, i can't find any reeds. I used BratWurst as my seed.

what if your doing this only thuamcraft?
You can also just click view image. then copy the URL in the address bar. I'm quite curious now.

Apart from in the crucibles, there is NO taint in any part of the pipeline.
