Sorry for a second post- I just tried SSP and it works fine- I think. I walked days and days and haven't seen a tree. But I did just find a mini-village of 3 small houses and kill the villagers. I found an exposed spawner a day before and got 2 iron bars from digging out the half chest so now I have a sword (after making sticks out of part of their house- I mean, MY house) and I am trying to use their wheat to make bread and get my health up. It was down to half a heart because I was starving. I havent seen cows or ruins at all- unless the mini-village is part of the ruins and cows are few and far between.
I have a gold bar and some redstone dust from standing up on a 3 block sand tower and punching zombies for 2 nights. It's such useless stuff. [Oh, I see... pistol recipe]. But still, I think you should make zombies drop sticks, logs, string, feathers, flint, eggs, etc. If you can give them a percentage chance of occasionally dropping a basic natural survival material- do eggs still give you a chance to get chickens? If so chicken farm potential for feathers and food. Sticks+string=bow or fishing pole
It seems like there should be a use for the dead bushes and the reed at least as poor fuel. And maybe there should be occasional dead trees or fallen trees that you can harvest but they don't drop saplings. Then you can make a live tree really rare so people really have to work to get their base all farmed up.
I really enjoyed the post-apocalyptic bleak desolate vibe here. I don't think you should add guns or cars as craftable items. There's SDK guns for that. This should be low-tech IMHO. If you MUST add them- make them rare finds like a rusty car half buried in a sand dune with a quarter tank of gas. Or a gun in a chest inside a partially collapsed bunker- that has a small chance of blowing up when you shoot it. But I think those things should just be fun treasures/relics you find. Not main aspects of the mod.
My immediate reaction to the first sunset was to tower up with sand I had collected. Then I dug back down to 3 blocks high and punched Zombies. This was too easy of an escape. Zombies need to slowly destroy sand blocks. Then people could tower up for as long as they can keep repairing their tower but if you run out of sand they eventually tear it down.
The Zombies themselves are terrific. MUCH BETTER without that vanilla zombie. If you add dead trees here and tthere, you don't need the starter kit. But I loved finding the little village. And the dungeon half full of sand. Both were unexpected treasure opportunities although I now have a saddle and no pig to ride.
I can see this becoming my favorite mod once any kinks are worked out. Good luck on it.
If anyone gets SMP running properly, please post and let me know.
il get working on it right now
next in v.1.8.1
some other secret updates
I'm playing ssp as is, with no ruins and trees anywhere so far. Wood from the tiny village is keeping me in business though. I haven't seen a single cow so my 15 or 20 wheat plants are much appreciated. I'm curious whether this village was a glitch.
I've got everything I need to make a bow and arrows except feathers. After a long boat ride, I finally found different zombies that dropped flint and string. Better than that, after I got back, I found a spider spawner-so I have a bed (spawn is finally reset!) and endless string. (Listen for the noises the spiders make while you are mining or exploring)
I'm probably going to cheat in some feathers. Hopefully 1.8.1 will have a few zombie chickens. Even with the bugs, this is fun. I can't wait for the next update.
Day 1 : I cheated in 1 sapling a wooden sword and 2 apples and 1 seed (Trying to get as close to the starter kit but harder).
Day 2:I found a HUGE natural dirt pile inside a mountain (104 dirt)
Day 3:I got me some trees going and got bonemeal
Day 4:Made a zombie trap.Dig 2 down in a checker pattern and stand in the middle (Take that new zombie A.I!!!)
Day 5:Got me a mini fortress
Day 6:Found a pond leading to a ravine and a cave
Day 7:First bread
Day 8:Into the cave I go!
Day 9:I found me a pet wolf...I recommend getting one.
i got the same problem... i actually started flying around and find a city but after a lot of time i stil haven't got lucky
also i got alive by finding a little village... it started out with me trying to save the poor fella's but i had to run and save myself... i feel like i am lost again even though i have a pretty good base... i lost my new found companions to those faul creatures again ( referred to the storyline)
i think of starting a little story in a diary for my own survival... i will take the story at te front page as start an continue from there on
if anyone would like to read it after a while please leave a comment so i know ( but if nobody is interested its ok and il make it for myself)
edit: flew around some more but still no luck... no abandoned houses no city's and no ruïns to find...
anyone who did got lucky? please tell me so i know the ruïns are actually added instead of a mod fail wich needs be repaired
edit 2: i actually found a tree! i flew around another 15 minutes and i found a tree in a taiga biome! the first thing i see in like 50 minutes of flying around at double speed ( singleplayercommands flying)
but stil haven't found city's villages houses or ruïns
CreeperP0ison please answer me is the spawnrate of those things so low? or is it the fact that city's haven't been propperly added? or me having bad luck?
