And, (srry for so many posts) you could make certain ores spawn in different biomes, for example, mithril is more common in extreme hills, azurite is only found under oceans and rivers, etc.
As for new ores, how about froststone, only found in snow biomes.
Or it could be like your firestone idea, only this time its a light blue stone that is found all over snow biomes. Drops cobbled froststone, can be crafted into froststone stairs, etc.
Sorry I missed this post actually.
Biome specific stuff I'm not exactly sure how to handle generation yet, but the concept of Ice-based biomes having a special type of stone like the Nether does with Firestone would be cool. I could make it slide like normal ice if you're on top of it.
Just more deco stone is appreciated by everyone I assume, even if it has no real use.

Is this going to be a full, all arounf minecraft expansion, with mobs and stuff, or is it just going to be ores? It says expansion in the description. If so, (kind of has to do with ores still) maybe you could make multiple different trees and certain tiers of tools would need better sticks.
Instead of reverting the wooden recipes back to wooden planks, do make a recipe for a new kind of Stick for which you use to make tools. Like 2 sticks side to side to make 'double sticks'.

[Idea] Forging and Tool Quality - realistic forging and using tool damage as quality measurement
Can you give a status update/ time to release of the next version?
I'm having issues getting the current version to work, and with MC 1.0 right around the corner I'll probably just wait for it and the new version of MCForge, ModloaderMP, etc.
I'd say a week at least, few weeks at most.

i REALLY like this mod, its simple, but introduces alot of new features. ADD DIAMONDS BACK! :biggrin.gif: in honor of your mod, instead of giving diamonds. i give you
Amazing mod, especially love the art for the current tools and items.
For the idea of splitting the mod into different sections, if you do that please keep a "base" default mod that includes everything but not cluttered by excessive random ores/blocks/whatever.
Like if you decide to add a lot of purely optional ores, don't stick that in the base default mod. I've had this issue with a few other mods that split up into different sections. They have each section, but for the default all-in-one mod, it is literally all in one and sometimes makes no sense to have so much stuff. I think they lose sight of the direction they were trying to go with originally and just decide to add absolutely everything. I don't know, hopefully this makes sense to you, it's just a huge inconvenience for me personally. For example the additional weapons (hammers/daggers), I can see that warranting an "optional" download where you can get it separately but it's also kept out of the default mod. I think the optional things should enhance your current mod and what you're trying to do with it not just have seemingly random additional content. But that's just the way I look at it. Hopefully this has been helpful feedback.
You seem to have a pretty good instinct on what to add and leave out, or what changes to make or not make, so I think it will work out fine.

The only issue is that some metals are just out of place with other mods. IE: Modern Metals, Fantasy Metals don't fit.

Hey, you know orichalcum is described as a copper-gold alloy with a little less worth then gold right? So green super-powered tools don't really make sense. I like what you are doing here though, very neat, although I think the rocks instead of stone blocks might get annoying.

Minecraft makes me feel like I'm three. Playing with blocks and afraid of the dark.

Orichalcum in Greek mythology was described as a copper-gold alloy used for coins basically, yes, its name basically means Mountain Copper or Mountain metal =P I'm taking the more video game based route (ala Final Fantasy and a variety of other games) that use it as a legit ore that's useable to make weapons.
Hilariously, Skyrim has Orichalcum as a basis for Orcish armor and weapons, and it also is a dark green color similar to mine, which is an awesome coincidence!

if onyl the stick tools weren't so ugly. no offense but they look really really low grade. I understand wood tools are the worse of them all, but a decent appearence would be nice.

No I'm complimenting your artwork =)
And it originally started as a full expansion, for now its ores. I needed to narrow the project scope until I finish the beginning bits.

Right now armor textures are not ingame, I intend to do custom textures for them. So armor will be with the first "real" release.
And thank you for steel its more useful than diamonds =D
