I am using Beta 2.0.2b and I just mined some Admantine with a Prometheum pickaxe so then I went looking for more ore and the Prometheum could mine everything I could find.So I think the fantasy ore's tool levels are still not right.
Also on the machines it seems to me that none of them are really worth upgrading. The metal cost way outweighs the slight savings in fuel.My feeling is that every upgrade should make a real difference in your game.As they are now you have to stand over them with a stopwatch to even see any inprovement.
Yes, please. It should be fairly expensive to repair a damaged tool, but less than the cost of just making a new one. Or it could maintain enchantments for some added cost. I dunno. But I like the idea of being able to repair that cool thing I made.
Yeahhh, what I mean would be more like you could burn fantasy dust in it and for the duration the dust is burning, the damage bar would slowly refill, so it would be more expensive to repair durable things like diamond or steel than stone or copper. And the main reason I see would be to keep enchantments. Definitelyyyy
Um, it may be just dumb of me, buy why does your nether look like that, RebelKeith? It looks like all the netherrack has disappeared. Not that I mind! I'd just like to be able to make mine disappear too.
lol, not dumb at all. I modified the nether generator to remove all netherrack so I could test ores generating in the nether easier.
Luke616: I agree with a lot of what you said about machine balance, I'm sure shadow can help work out the balance issues
I cannot find an option for texture overrides only item block ids and spawning plus some info on crushers etc...

well, since your the only person with this problem so far, and the program your using is not supported by forge, you might consider trying something else. And really MultiMC or Magic Launger is much better
Also if you were enabling something like hd textures, or something like that, there could be a conflict.
This is an outrageously amazing mod. Kudos to you Shadow and Rebel. I'm so glad that after months of anticipation I can finally experience the Awesomeness that is ML 2
also @Luke616
I agree with your earlier post, I quoted it in the spoiler below, 100%. All those fixes would make the mod that much more fun to play.
and that fantasy repairing machine...genius!!
Thanks for bringing this back up. While I have to agree with shadow in that it's not meant to be easy, you raise a good point. I haven't had any problems with upgrading, and it seems to raise a good challenge to find the metals you need to finish upgrading all your devices. But there is definitely a point where the upgrades for some machines just aren't worth it.
Take the abstractors. Abstractors right now I personally would never find myself using. If abstractors gave a tiny xp boost (eg. promethium would be x1, deep iron wwould be x1.1, black steel would be x1.2, etc) then abstractors would both be useful and the cost of upgrading would be justified.
As of now, abstractors i believe give the same amount of xp as you would get smelting ore. Which is silly. Even destroying a sanguine bar will barely even take you from level 0 to level 1. It's simply not worth it, and if i had enough ingots to craft a tartarite abstractor It would make sense and be more efficient just to abstract all the ingots id use to upgrade and get the xp from that!
What im saying is that there is no long-term investment here. Same with the nether forges. For what you put in to upgrading, you don't ever get back. Furnaces and crushers, however, are more fuel-efficient with each upgrade, making the cost totally justifiable in the long run. By upgrading, you eventually save materials and cut back your fuel usage. You're right about them being great and imo very balanced. But the forges and abstracters just aren't worth the extra speed.
What I would do:
-Either make abstractors give progressively more xp with each upgrade. It wouldn't have to be a big increase, maybe leading up to x4 what it is now at Tartarite, with an exponential curve so the difference between promethium and deep iron is much smaller than the xp difference between adamantine and atlarus. Alternatively, you could raise the amount of xp you get from abstracting across the board.
-Make nether furnaces either smelt progressively more per bucket or make all buckets smelt more, maybe 30+ or so rather than only 10. Alternatively, you could make nether furnaces extremely fast, making them the choice for speed over efficiency. I have tested that with the configs already, and it makes nether furnaces really fun.
-Greatly nerf the fuel duration of ignatius dust. I'm not sure if its a bug, but being the most common nether metal, it is absolutely rediculous how efficient it is. Assuming you have 8 dust, the amount used to craft the first nether forge, you could smelt 512 items... the equivalent of 51 lava buckets in a forge. Personally I love the idea of ignatius dust being fuel, just not at the efficiency it is now.
I really hope you guys'll at least consider something. Aside from that, the only other balance issue I can see in the whole mod are the usefulness of some alloys, but that's discussion for later.
(and while I have an idea, how about a machine that consumes dust to progressively repair damaged tools? A fantasy machine? Hehe)

Why thank you! Its up to shadow what happens thoughhh.
I have a strange error report that is popping up when I tried to upgrade from Metallurgy 2 to v2.0.2b. I am running a host of mods using MagicLauncher. Version 2 worked fine, but when I changed out for the v2.0.2b files I got this error report.

It took me a while to track down the conflicting mod(given my long list) but I finally found that something in the change caused a conflict with Herblore. So I tried changing the load order by having Herblore load last. This was the resulting error report.

Don't know much about Java or MC Modding or Forge processes so I need some help making sense of this one. Thanks in advance.
I have a strange error report that is popping up when I tried to upgrade from Metallurgy 2 to v2.0.2b. I am running a host of mods using MagicLauncher. Version 2 worked fine, but when I changed out for the v2.0.2b files I got this error report.
I wouldn't know this execpt for from randomly reading forge forum post. But modloader can only load so many sprites, using the addOverride method, metallurgy 2 uses a lot for the texture override stuff, and apparently herblore uses a lot individual sprites too. The sprite sheets don't count towards this limit only the individual 16x16 images. Try disabling texture overrides in the core config and see if the problem goes away.
Why thank you! Its up to shadow what happens thoughhh.
-After playing with them Abstracters do need a buff, and a multiplicative experience bonus may be the best way to do it. Also they give you the amount you get for mining the ore, not smelting (smelting ore gives 1 exp regardless of what ore it is). 4x at Tartarite makes sense and seems about what I'd balance it at potentially.
-Nether Smelters are supposed to be fast, if they're not smelting fast that's probably a problem on our end or I put the notes incorrect. I'll look at it.
-Ignatius Dust will get nerfed.

Damascus Steel perhaps you could raise it damage to 3 that would make it the best choice for cheap weapons.
Bronze could have its armor durability increased to make it the best choice for early armor.
So since steel makes the best tools you could save it for them until you have a large supply.
This would also keep Damascus Steel as a good weapon even until the endgame.
You could also shake the fantasy and neither alloys up some.Such as having some that are only so so as tools but make better weapons or armor. If you raised the top damage by 2 ,so 6 for the neither and 7 for fantasy, that would give you more room to make each ore and alloy more distinctive.
Also on the machines it seems to me that none of them are really worth upgrading. The metal cost way outweighs the slight savings in fuel.My feeling is that every upgrade should make a real difference in your game.As they are now you have to stand over them with a stopwatch to even see any inprovement.
Yeahhh, what I mean would be more like you could burn fantasy dust in it and for the duration the dust is burning, the damage bar would slowly refill, so it would be more expensive to repair durable things like diamond or steel than stone or copper. And the main reason I see would be to keep enchantments. Definitelyyyy
lol, not dumb at all. I modified the nether generator to remove all netherrack so I could test ores generating in the nether easier.
Luke616: I agree with a lot of what you said about machine balance, I'm sure shadow can help work out the balance issues
That.. is on your end, Try reinstalling everything on a clean MC
Might have something to do with the texture overrides, you should be able to disable them in the config if you can't fix it.
Thanks for the response! Hopefully the community can all come to some sort of conclusion haha.
The config generates in .minecraft/config/Metallurgy, its at the bottom of the "MetallurgyCore" file. Hopefully that works
This is the error code forge gave me in dos:
quoted from the forge forums:
"Do NOT use MCPatcher.
If you must use a launcher then use MultiMC or Magic Launcher"
Edit: But the option to disable overrides is at the very bottom of the config file, even I missed it the first time and went looking in the code.
The thing is forge has never caused me any trouble on MCPatcher. It's only this recent update to Metallurgy that made my tools invisible.
Also if you were enabling something like hd textures, or something like that, there could be a conflict.
And after not jumping around so much i finally finished the Base Metals sheet >_>
also @Luke616
I agree with your earlier post, I quoted it in the spoiler below, 100%. All those fixes would make the mod that much more fun to play.
and that fantasy repairing machine...genius!!
Why thank you! Its up to shadow what happens thoughhh.
It took me a while to track down the conflicting mod(given my long list) but I finally found that something in the change caused a conflict with Herblore. So I tried changing the load order by having Herblore load last. This was the resulting error report.
Lastly, I tried disabling all other mods except these two(Metallurgy and Herblore) and this was the resulting error message.
Don't know much about Java or MC Modding or Forge processes so I need some help making sense of this one. Thanks in advance.
