I can't promise everything will work once you start fiddling with the configs, BUT in this case you should be able to craft Steel Plates in a workbench. Your only problem is though is getting Steel Ingots. You can however find Steel Blocks in mineshafts sometimes.
With all the respect, you're wrong. When I deactivate the Factory module, I have no Steel Ingots (by design of the mod, I suppose). However, steel tools are still exist, and the recipe looks like that:
the same with the Steel plate recipe:
So, as you can see, I cant craft the plate. I think it's a bug, kind of.
In addition, Disposal Track is the only track I can't craft without the Factory module. It the only one that require a tie (instead of a stick) as well. I think, there should be an alternative recipe in this case, with block of iron, or iron/tin plate or something like that.

I play on a private SMP server with friends, with Thaumcraft and RedPower installed. No IC2, Forestry, etc. We want vanilla-style recipes, without IC2-style long technological chains, auto-mining and such kind of things.
I love Railcraft tracks, so I installed Railcraft as well, but I need vanilla-style recipes for tracks.
I don't know it's caused by forge, mystcraft or other mod.
But sometimes chest carts are dissappearing when i am not on the server.
Chest cart is going through mystcraft portals all time, chunks are loaded by railcraft anchors.

And if i try to log in to the server i get this screen, again and again. Have any solution?
You sir have an out of date API. Go update everything.
Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong please? I upgraded my energy cart to a MFSU cart and it wouldn't connect to my loader. However I inserted a tranny upgrade in the loader and all seemed well, but now it won't dock at the unloader and just bounces back again. The unloader is hooked up to an MFSU which happily accepted the cart when it was an MFE cart. I just popped in a tranny upgrade to the MFSU there and it exploded. I have a spare MFSU I can replace it with, but that doesn't really help me if it's just going to explode again. What am I doing wrong and what do I need to store the power at the receiving end please? Thanks.
Both the Loader and Unloader need Transformer upgrades. This also increased the input/output to Extreme Voltage. You need a transformer.
Does playing nice involve threats, DMCA, malware, whatever? No. Also, railcraft considered, I'm not sure if there is even enough modified for there even to be a derivative work copyright. Copyright law is not just slapping whatever license on anything.
This post protected by the WhoCares License.
That's like saying that <insert random Windows OS dependent program> is not eligible for copyright.
Railcraft, and in fact most Forge mods, are composed almost entirely of unique code and assets built on top of an API. This is just like any other program out there, including Minecraft itself, which is built on the Java API.
Using the FTB Beta A pack, I have a 7x7x8 Tank to hold lava.
Everything was fine, until an Enderman decided to go for a swim.
Then he decided to leave a Baby Ruth (dirt block) in the pool, which broke the tank and I lost over 500 buckets of lava. o.O Mind you, the picture below was taken right before I went to look if it was a known issue, and when I returned to the world after a save, the lava was gone.
It might be a good thing to make the inside of the tank hostile to mobs once it is built.

ikr? I seem to have a dark cave a little too close to my main base, though I haven't been able to find it. Every so often I get an Ender in my main crafting area. I still think my server admin has it set to Hard Mode, those guys hit like a truck even with nano armor, and it takes a half-dozen hits with a mining laser - that is when you can get off a shot.
Other than this minor glitch, I'm quite pleased with all the Railcraft changes I've tried so far. I should really build a steam system before too long though.
[EDIT] I knocked out the wall of the tank to kill mr Grief and with him dead and the dirt he left removed, once I put the wall back all the lava was suddenly there again. That, at least, is a great 'feature'.
Still, weird to have 'em able to teleport into the tank like that, especially with lava inside.

Welcome to the digital era. You can put a bunch of hard work into something and still have it for yourself because it's just information. It's not like you don't still have a mod you busted your balls on just because someone else can download it. It's hard for our culture to adapt to this idea, we aren't really raised to comprehend it easily.
But, if you are releasing something for free that can be copied for free to no detriment of the original creator, it's hard to really call it taking or stealing or anything derogatory like that.
There are grey areas of course, the biggest being that modding is a grey area in the first place as you are operating on intellectual property belonging to Mojang. Indirectly most of the time, considering people typically write for Bukkit or for Forge but forge and bukkit both operate on base class edits and distributing them is directly against the terms of service. By writing mods for THAT it is still a grey area.
It an age of rampant "remix"ing, it's hard to take someone seriously who is remix'ing anothers work (Mojang's) and then get upset when someone may remix it themselves, claiming it is wholly theirs to control.
This sort of thing will be a moral battle played out for probably the next twenty years easily.
how so? Both are just code. And any program uses an API to work on an OS, even the multi thousand dollar pricetag programs and the free indie programs. still your own work when you code something.
And you trust what is being said by those defending their using the work of others without permission?
Just because its in a legal gray area and isnt definitely wrong by law, doesnt make it right.
but again, its part of the overly self-entitled "I want what i want and will do what i want to do regardless" mentality of the sheeple masses

You lost the image of 500 buckets of lava, but not the lava. It's the bottom center block of the tank which holds the information of what's actually in the tank. You can freely destroy the whole rest of it, and when you put it all back the lava level will be the same.
So just break the glass wall there, remove the dirt, put the glass wall back and tada.. all your lava back! (As long as you haven't destroyed the bottom middle block that is...)

Thank you for your attention. By the way, the only things that require Creosote without Factory module are Disposal track and Wooden post. Perhaps their recipes should be changed (in order to use sticks or something).

You guys using RP2? If you are, the Anathema (I think that's what it's called) is incredible at what it does.
New UE mod updates are up that fix the problem

That supposed to work but it DOES NOT. I wrote about it in the beginning of the conversation - http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/701990-146-147-railcraft-61300-forge/page__st__5240#entry20172990

I beg to differ!!! If so which ones are they?
Vanilla bug with entities.
Ok, that's odd. I'll look at that again.
PS. The Disposal Track sucks anyway.
