The chunk loader blocks wont help since they don't prevent the chunks from being unloaded. They just reload them once they have been unloaded. The game basically unloads the chunk one tick, and then reloads it the next tick and repeats this cycle indefinitely. Its very much a hack, and very much unstable and resource intensive.
The problem is that if a minecart hits the edge of an unloaded chunk it will come to complete stop. Even if the chunk reloads, the cart will still have no momentum. Unfortunately, the only real work around for this would be to use control rails and I imagine the cart would move quite a bit slower than normal.
Hopefully Forge will eventually implement a real system to tell the game that a chunk should remain loaded until told otherwise. While this is trivially easy to implement in SSP, it very difficult to port this feature to SMP due to the way the server handles chunks. This is the main reason it hasn't already been implemented. Or at least that was what Eloraam told me when I asked about it a couple months ago. She did say it was something she would need for Redpower in the future, so I have hope that it will happen one day.
Hmm. I think you're right and the chunkloaders are only partially helping. If I start walking down my track, eventually the cart will show up so I assume it's keeping it's velocity but because it's unloaded and loaded per tick it just doesn't go anywhere until it's loaded. (and when i say show up I assume I just loaded the chunk it needed from the direction it was moving)
Do you have any other suggestions on how to transfer items across a decent distance? (roughly 600 blocks). Basically I had my quarry far away to prevent ugly holes in the ground with a rail system transferring items to prevent lag. Other then riding along with the carts do you have any suggestions for automation?
I am use railcraft v2.2.1
but i can't craft rails..
including Standard Rail,Gold-Plate Rail,Laminate Rail
it make me can't craft any rails like Normal Rail,Power Rail,etc...
and i can't see these three item(Standard Rail,Gold-Plate Rail,Laminate Rail) in the "TooManyItem" menu,too
how can i fix it?
thanks a lot
p.s
I try it in SinglePlayer and bukkitServer
Server OS: Linux
Client OS: Win7 SP1

Unfortunately at the moment no, but in the future you should be able to put together a large train that you can drive out to the quarry load up, and drive back. If the train is large enough it should only take occasional trips.
is there an eta of the smp support of the mc 1.1 version? because i would like to update my server, but i cant as long as railcraft hasn't updated yet. buildcraft is already updated so forge shouldnt be a problem anymore. any eta?
I'm sorry, but Forge 1.3.0 Server is missing several features that Railcraft requires. Features that I would think Buildcraft would need as well. Namely the function in TileEntityFurnace that returns fuel values is not accessible. There is at least one other issue with RailLogic that is holding me up as well, but that shouldn't affect anyone but me. I could probably work around the issues if I had to, but that's just extra work that I would need to undo once Forge updates.

Just my two cents for the next version: think you might have slowed down the creosote a little too much. I've always run multiple coke furnaces anyway, but I, for one, do use a LOT of rails. Really seems way too bogged down right now.
Just an idea. Excellent mod that I've run for a very long time.
At a 5:1 ratio for creosote, you need to coke 40 pieces of coal to get enough to make 1 rail bed.
I agree that this probably isn't enough. Perhaps a 4:1 or even 2:1 ratio would be more sensible.

I discovered that error while trying to fix the drops before, it will be fixed in the next version.
why cant i find the liquid load and unloader it dosent show up in the TMI and i cant even craft it what is wrong :sad.gif: i have all railcraft files installed
Hi,
First off all thanks to Jaguar for his great mod, we have really a lot fun with it.
We playing on MP server so we using MC 1.0 with Railcraft 2.2.1 without any other mods.
Now my problem: I tried to build an advanced unloader but the recipe doesnt work on MP.
The advanced loader recipe is working.
In SP both recipes works.
The entries in the railcraft.cfg looks fine (both server and pc).
So my question is, did i found a (un)known bug in the MP Version or is something wrong with our setup.
I hope u understand my problem, cause my english isnt that good :smile.gif:
Hopefully you wont have that problem in 3.1 when its released, but let me know if you do.
Minecraft Forge 1.3.1 is out, is it still missing some things that Railcraft needs for server?
I'd love to have it on my server, but right now we're running with minimal mods due to lack of available ones
I'll start working on that today. Hopefully it won't take too much work to get the the server running. If all goes well, expect another release before Wednesday. Hopefully I don't find anymore bugs in Forge.
I had hoped to finish the Cart Balancer (name subject to change) for the next version, but seems I've hit some major design flaws that won't be easily overcome. May have to shelve it for a bit, I can make it function but cant seem to make it useful without adding more intelligence to how loaders and dispensers work. Not that that is a bad thing, but it will take some time and thought.
When I play on my server that dosn't have any smp mods besides bukkit.. if i open a double chest i get "Internal exception: Java.io.IOException: Received string length longer then maximum allowed (26623 > 16)"
I have tried it with out railcraft and no error.

You best ask at MC Port Central. And I'm slightly confused anyway since Bukkit isn't an SMP mod or anything of the sort.
Well, I've reached the point where the server compiles, but I'm experiencing a bug in SMP that is making it impossible to really test things. Every time I break a block, it returns moments later. I'm not sure the cause of the bug, but there are couple other people who have reported the same issue in the Forge thread. This could unfortunately delay the release again.
