For other players to see the skin change, you MUST hit the permanent button!
Description: See a sweet skin? Steal it In Game with SkinThief. SkinThief temporarily changes your skin so you can see how it looks. It can also download it to your HD if you want. In fact, It can even set your permanent skin! Rather than read about it, check out the video to see it in action!
Extract the files from the .zip to your desktop (or somewhere you can keep handy).
Open minecraft.jar in an archive program (WinRar, WinZip, 7zip, etc...).
Drag the files you extracted earlier into minecraft.jar
Run Minecraft to check if it still works.
How to use:
Press 'P' on your keyboard to open SkinThief.
If you want to change the key bindings, open the file .minecraft/mods/skinThief.config and change the key option.-- Enter a player name or url with a skin and hit Steal.
If you want to save the skin, hit 'Save Skin To File', when you steal the skin, it will automatically download it to the.minecraft/skins folder.
Setting your permanent skin is just as easy, just hit "Change Skin: " and it will automatically change the skin in game!
SkinThief has built in player name and url resolving, so you don't have to worry about putting in an incorrect skin / player name.

I think I've almost figured out how to make it change your skin... You should see an update soon. The problem is, is that this right now only changes it client side, because it's not possible to change it from within minecraft. However, I think I've figured out a solution, let's see if it works. :3
Single player commands already have this tool, but its nice to some people who doesnt like SPC
Single Player Commands is only single player, this works in both multiplayer and single player. Plus with this you can permanently change your skin, or download it, or even download it from a URL. It also doesn't have any compatibility errors whatsoever because it doesn't modify any of minecraft's game files.
