Pretty slick mod, a nice replacement for ImprovedChat.
I've noticed one thing, though, and it used to be an issue with older chat mods I used, it's the line break issue in text. When trying to show a larger block of text (such as "/who" with 25+ players on), there will be some strange line breaks, where after all text is white. Usually only happens when game isn't in full screen.
Here's a screenshot, the break occurs, not too severe in this example:

Oh, and, for the blinking line cursor indicator, or whatever it's called, don't suppose you'd want to change that to a pipe (|)? The exclamation mark keeps catching my eye :3
Just wanted to know if it is possible to input the special characters like § for example so i can change the colour of my text in chat.

Check out my youtube channel and leave a comment it will help alot. i make lots of redstone contraptions that i am uploading at one point or another: http://www.youtube.com/user/ACr4zyMoose
Thank you for that mod!
Really good chatmod!
This mod need in-game commands, something like improved chat (i dont use it because its so buggy) and this mod will be best!
To make it work, make the file [minecraft-dir]/mods/console/bindings.properties then open it with notepad or another plain text editor. and fill it with mappings according to the format [keys]=[line-to-send]. Refer to the key code diagram in the original post for key codes. For example:
96,32=/home
would send the command /home every time ctl+D is pressed. So you would be warped home with the keyboard shortcut ctl+D. And don't forget the BACKGROUND_BINDING_EVENTS option if you want them to work while the gui is closed.
EDIT: Actually I was testing and I found out that the key code chart in the original post is incorrect please refer to the minecraft wiki for a correct code chart
I've found a cool feature in this mod: When the console is open, press tab and the names from the other players are put into the inputbar. Just press the key again to switch between the names.
Yeah it's in the first post: "Username tabbing in SMP".
Idk if this is a bug or whether it's just a problem for me, but I have a problem/bug.
About 80% of the time when I bring up the console in-game, whatever key I push to bring it up (T, for example) will be there when I type. As in if I push T to bring it up, it automatically enters a T in the typing area.
I have fixed this already, use the latest build from the github page.
Simo has been gone for a while now and I've been updating it. He will be back soon and will be able to update the main post. Hopefully we will do an update soon. There are still some features I want to add though.
Thanks for this mod, Simo!
I have a feature request. I would really like to be able to copy/paste from chat history. I can scroll through my own commands with the arrow keys, but I can't fetch the output (for example position), or other people's inputs.
Already planned! I know it seems like I'd just have to 'enable' it but I have to write it from scratch. It took a lot of time to make happen with the input box and there are some changes I need to make to make this possible. But don't worry, it will happen eventually.
I'm using this now instead of ImprovedChat so that I can get around its so many incompatibilities. Console is great, but while I love the customization, the default behavior and look leaves something to be desired. So there's a lot of tweaking that needs to be done, which is unfortunate for new users.
Scrolling speed is pretty slow. (with scroll wheel) You should boost that and maybe add an option to adjust it.
The line height is taller than normal text chat for some reason. If you could reduce that to be consistent, that would be nice. It'd also have the benefit of seeing more lines per screen.
i did everything i had to install it and it still doesnt work, what am i doing wrong?
i moved everything from the console folder and pasted into minecraft.jar
deleted meta-inf and such, every mod works for me but not this one??
You installed mod-loader right? Keep in mind that this mod does nothing until you press the key set for it. You can check what this key is or change it if you press escape in game or options on the main menu then press the controls button and find the option labeled "Console." Change it to the key of your preference then go back to the game and press it. The console should appear.
Oh and if the default key (backslash) doesn't work for you for some reason Minecraft doesn't capture it sometimes, like on my computer. That's not a bug with this mod and it backslash also won't work as the key for anything else Minecraft does.
If that doesn't help, are you getting any sort of error or just a black screen? If everything starts ok the mod is not in the minecraft jar at all or it is installed correctly.
As mentioned above you can customise a lot of the console by changing the properties file located at .minecraft/mods/console/gui.properties
How do you configure this? I try to open the gui.properties with 7zip and just clicking but it doesnt work. What am I supposed to do? Also- sometimes in multiplayer I'll get a message that says something like "This is the chat held back for you", what did I do to activate that?
I'm an admin on my server and I find this mod VERY useful and I'd like to find a way to optimize it :biggrin.gif:....I just dont know how lol.

gui.properties is a plain text file, open it with notepad or another text editor. That string isn't in the source code at all, I'm not sure what caused it. Was it your server? If not, it could be a plugin maybe restricting chat or something. Is that the exact text that it returns?

I got the snapshot on the github page, and CTRL+V still crashes the game.

It isn't just for you, it happens to me too...
My chat key is '\' and my console key is 'T'.

AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mods\console folder
Nice mod - works like a charm.

Keep up the good work. :smile.gif:
