Don't even listen to him, in his mind if you are not playing Minecraft one way, and one way only then you are playing the game wrong, because apparently building anything isn't the point of minecraft, and adventure maps are not a valid way to play the game.
In fact anyone who is defending this tends to build one small base, gather as many resources as possible, and barely use them.
Great job on the mod Jeffrey6978, a lot of players have been waiting for this. I hope we see something like this for multiplayer servers though.
Yeah, I really want this for multiplayer too, since I run a server myself.
The sad thing is, I'm pretty sure I know exacly which lines of code to remove from the server files, but my decompiler gives me an error, anytime I try to recompile the file.
And, to make sure I didn't mess up the file somehow with my changes, I even tried just decompiling it, making no changes at all, then recompiling, and it still gave a error.
I'm still pretty new at using decompilers, so if someone with more experience wants to give it a try, I posted exactly what changes need to be made to jx.class in the minecraft_server.jar in the first post.
If anyone can compile the file, send me the link, and I'll be sure to add it to the first post.
Installed and working! Good call on the ghast SFX by the way. Actually made fighting them scarier. To be perfectly honest the first time I encountered them they seemed less cosmic horror and more mildly brain damaged. Something about the way they carried those blocks around and groaned made me feel like I should be putting a hand on their shoulder and in a calm but commanding voice asking them if they knew where they lived and what year it was... Losing the blocks and adding the screaming baby noises made them work much, much better.
The ghast sounded one is very useful, becose if I hear moans I think its a zombie, but if I hear creepers in the owerworld, I know I have to run for my pumpkin hat.
Hopefully Notch implements a unique sound effect by 1.9, they deserve a terrifying sound effect. Something even more frightening than ghasts.
I find this mod sad, notch made a lot of effort to make a real hostile mob and give more challenge to the game, and you just ruin that with this kind of mods
Did you actually read why people have problems with them, or are you simply assuming they're for whatever reason gives you the easiest excuse to feel superior and smug? On the off-chance you actually care about knowing what other people actually think beyond just what it takes for you to dismiss them, one sample opinion (mine) is below in response to someone's actual question.
I'm confused, why not just remove the endermen all together?
A crappy looking landscape does not add anything to the game. And being demanded to build moats and either place excessive torches or use excessively low ceilings does not add challenge - it adds pointless busywork. It's the equivalent of being forced to make useless, silly crafts in early grade school (except without even a chance of teaching you anything in the process). But endermen themselves don't hurt the game aside from that. They look kind of interesting, they do add a small element of danger in their potential aggression (THAT is challenge, even though it is a very, very, VERY minor form of it), and they contribute additional variety to the small roster of critters in the game.
I'm still looking for someone to help me with compiling a server version of this.
If anyone who has a decompiler wants to try, open up jx.class from the Minecraft_server.jar, and make the changes I posted in the first post, if you can get it compiled, let me know, and I'll put up the link in the first post!
I really want to get this working on my server, but my compiler won't compile that file for some reason.
I'm not sure if this will work or not, but here is a compiled version of jx.class: Here it is. Just checked it in my decompiler and frankly it wont work, I would need to do a lot of work to decompile all the right classes, so sorry about that.
The file linked up there wont work, however I just found a new feature in the decompiler I'm using (downloaded it just for this, lol) and I will do it tomorrow morning (BST).
Alright, thanks a lot for helping!
In case it helps at all here is the error I get whenever I try to recompile jx.class, it says Float cannot be dereferenced, for the following two lines of code, at line 70 & 158 in my decompiler:
I'm also waiting for the SMP version to be properly compiled, I hope it's done by tonight. I'd help if I knew how, but good luck on the compilers, guys. :ohmy.gif:
also I'm bumping this thread in case anybody else might help.

This mod works great. Now I only have to avoid lookin at them and don't have to worry that my buildings and the world will end up looking like termites went to town on everything.. For those that seem to be hating on this mod, you only use what you want in your games..let those of us that want to use this use it and stop your bitching about us changing things. Pretty sure you are using a texture mod, or some other mod which changes how Notch mode the game originally also. So what is the difference between that and us wanting to get rid of the clepto Enderman ability???
I can't even recompile the unmodified java files from the client! Would you mind telling me what you are using? Thanks for the mod btw :3
I'm using DJ Java Decompiler.
After extracing everything in the Minecraft.jar to a folder, I was able to edit the gz.class file, but when I tried to do the exact same thing with Minecraft_server.jar's jx.class, it gave me errors, and I don't know why.
Like most people who posted on this thread, I loved this mod idea. I think the Endermen are awesome, but I've also got some expansive creations that are getting turned into swiss cheese by Endermen. I've tried just about everything to protect my creations, but I've found the only thing to do at this point is to download this mod.
However, I've also been running into the same problems as other people earlier. I've tried downloading the gz.class file with the no-pick-up Zombie sound Endermen, but now I can't get Minecraft started. I'm getting the no-error black screen after the Mojang screen like others got before. Is this an error due to my java? I even tried to wipe Minecraft and redownload it using the client download link on the website, but it's still not starting.
I'm going to try to see if my java needs to be updated and trying to download the Ghast sound version. In the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions for what I might be doing wrong?
EDIT: I just updated Java and tried loading the Ghast No-pickup version. Neither one helped, and I'm still getting the Mojang screen for a split second before it goes black. I'd really like to be able to get this mod working, so if anyone could shed some light on the subject at all, I'd really appreciate it!
EDIT II: I just got it to work! Nevermind! :happy.gif:' Sorry about that. I went in and saw I still had that Metainf file that I saw some people suggested to delete, so deleted that and the game looks like it's going to work fine now. Can't wait to see the mod in action now! :biggrin.gif:

good work!
ignore the haters!
its as if someones putting a gun to their head and forcing them to use a mod.
why are they even in the mod forums.. just to troll?
how bout they leave those of us who want these things alone. to much to ask i guess.
That way they can't grief buildings, but can still pick up natural blocks.
thanks again
(i keep perusing to find a no hunger/hunger bar remover now) =D

Good sounds in 1.9+No pick up ability+No open mouths= Perfect Endermen :biggrin.gif:
Teleporting is perfect for them.

either case its working awesomely.
:biggrin.gif:
Yeah, sounds just like what's happening to me with DJ Java Decompiler, I can't compile the file even without changes to it.
Thanks for trying anyway.
If anyone else wants to have a go at it let me know.
