When players die they can release a massive amount of XP Orbs, which will cause massive client-side lag for anyone near that location. Disabling the orbs fixes that.
Mind you, this only stops the dropping of orbs, so if you already have a lot of orbs on your map this won't make them go away.
PS. sausagefest.stuzzhosting.com is a great 1.8 pre SMP server. :tongue.gif:
I've made several ritual-suicide pits where I can leave all my items in a chest, take a quick nap, then jump into a pool of water and drown. All my orbs get dropped, and I wake up, take my items and go about my business.
Now I'm not completely sure of this, but I think the orbs will disappear after a time like items do. In theory these pits can stop my problems with the drops. If I find for some reason that they won't disappear, I guess I'll try a lava pit instead. It'd definitely be faster either way.
Can't wait till 1.9 so we can actually use this XP. Good job on the mod, by the way.

As far as I can tell they do not expire as normal items do. Either that or the lag they cause forces them to stay active. Either way the best way to do it is to create a small lava pit a few blocks deep. Lava does destroy xp orbs. You want it to be a few blocks deep so when you are full health you can submerge a couple blocks before dying. That way the orbs will not just splash out of range and keep lagging the map block.
Praise jesus. Thank you. Those orbs were killing us.
Oh nope... it just made every other type of lag worse. Not worth it.
Nevermind, someone died immediately before we installed and caused mass lag - we fixed it, and now this is the best thing ever. Sorry for my previous comment. Good job :smile.gif:
Can you make a version for offline play? The longer I go, the worse it gets, even on my higher-end computer. This is driving me nuts. I have to leave and rejoin so many times.

Is it actually an issue in SSP? I don't really play SSP myself.
Keep bumping it till it gets pinned.
On the off-chance that 1.8 does not actually come out today I'm sure it would be very nice for many server-owners to have this.
Um, how exactly do you drop it into the minecraft_server.jar? Nothing happens when i do that.
Open the minecraft_server.jar in 7zip, winzip, winrar, etc.
This will show the file contents. A .jar is just a fancy zipped file for Java.
Then drag the file into 7zip, winzip, winrar, etc. Basically drag it or import it into the zipped file, the .jar. =)

Seemed to work fine for me and for the stuzzhosting server.

That's not possible, it literally only skips over the code that drops orbs. :tongue.gif:

Maybe added in the 1.8 portion of the forum as well?
