Keyhole Device The Keyhole Device is a block that outputs a Redstone signal when it detects the presence of its key item. To use the device, place it on the ground and put the desired key item in the slot that appears. Don't worry, you'll get this item back. Hit ESCAPE to close the window and the keyhole will output a Redstone pulse to indicate success. If a player throws the key item at the block or right-clicks it with the key item, it will output a Redstone pulse (about 4 seconds long) to any neighboring wires (vanilla or RedPower 2). You must be holding the key item to break the block.
Locked Door The Locked Door is pretty self-explanatory. It is very similar to the Keyhole Device in behavior, except that instead of outputting Redstone it will open/close instead. Keep in mind that you cannot throw an item at it to open it; you must right-click it instead. You must be holding the key item to break the block.

Installation (singleplayer and multiplayer)
Install Minecraft Forge #462 or higher. If you have ModLoader installed, remove it. Minecraft Forge replaces its functionality completely.
Download this mod's .jar file and place it inside the "mods" folder. If you don't know where to find it, Google it.
Run the game to make sure everything is set up correctly. If the game runs and you can place and use both items, stop here. If something goes wrong, move on to the next step.
If your game crashed, there are a number of things that could have gone wrong:
Minecraft Forge is not installed, or there is another mod overwriting some of its classes. Force-update your Minecraft (or re-download the server) and install only Minecraft Forge into your .jar, and try again.
Another mod that is installed uses the same Block or Item IDs as this mod. If this is the case, Minecraft will crash with an error stating that a block ID slot was already taken. Open up /config/Keyhole.cfg and edit the IDs to ones that are not already in use. The block IDs can be anything from 0 to 4096, and the item IDs can be anything from 0 to 35565.
You found a bug. Please post the error report and any ForgeModLoader-* files found in .minecraft inside a spoiler tag in this thread.

o yah im working on the tutorial after u get the crafting recipe
ok working on tutorial o yah 1 more thing shouldn't you change the crafting recipe from iron to lapis since the block looks like a lapis block with a hole in it
Ahh yes. I should have made it lapis. While filling the chest on my demo video (about 50% uploading right now), I realized it is the SAME EXACT color as Lapis Lazuli so I'll change that in the next version. Or maybe I'll do something with blue dye so it isn't so hard to make. I don't know yet.
That's a pretty cool concept, although not so useful in regular SSP. I see this working in SMP and adventure maps, although the keyhole might not work so well as a security measure in a server. Any old fool can gather up a bunch of random materials and eventually crack the lock open! Something more so like a real life lock and key, maybe a lock could consist of a four digit code, prompted from the first user to place the block; and then it permanently stores that value in some sort of file to avoid other users changing the code.. Then keys can be crafted in the same way, four digits connected to that single item. A key with the same value as a block would unlock said keyhole! Maybe it could even be possible to craft the keyhole into doors and chests as well! God, it's so brilliant; a shame I cannot code..

I was mainly thinking adventure maps when I created this, but I'll work on a ModLoaderMP mod and, when Spout evolves far enough, a Bukkit+Spout plugin. Also about the "eventually crack the lock open" part, they would need to know what item to make (out of 200+ items), but it would be possible given the time. In the next version I will fix a couple bugs with the Key item (Thank you, TheEpicMiner :biggrin.gif:), and I'll add a new crafting recipe. I also will attempt to store the item damage in the Key item and match that as well, so you can have specific types of ink, wool, wood, saplings, half steps, etc. and that will increase the number of keys that can be used, making it more secure. Thanks for all the feedback! It really helps when one is making a mod.
This mod adds two items to the game.

Nice! I'll consider that in the next update.
EDIT: Can I modify it so that the red bar turns green when it is powering?
That is a really bad tutorial..
Do you really think it is necessary to type after everything you do?
