Something I noticed is that when playing on a alpha generator world and using old mob spawning, monsters don't spawn. When turned off, no animals spawn (I didn't test it with beta worlds). Why is that?
I just tested it out using the Alpha generator and the Alpha 1.1.2_01 preset and it seemed to work fine for me. Both animals and monsters spawned fine for me, perhaps just changing the setting a little through back to the Alpha 1.2.0 setting would fix it? Although with this I did discover that squid still spawned despite using the Alpha 1.2.0 mob spawning setting so I'll have to figure that one out.
Something I thought about was having the ssp mod for newer minecraft versions because server lag is something I really hate about the newer versions starting at 1.3 and I know lots of other people are annoyed by it too (especially because creepers explode way faster because of it), is that possible without lots of work? I don't really know anything about modding lol.. I (and I think a lot of other people) would love to have it when playing newer vanilla (or modded) versions of minecraft.
It would be neat to port SSP to newer versions, but it would most likely need an entire rewrite since a ton has changed since 2013. Even then I would need to learn more about Java before I'd take it on unless someone else decided to do it. And also it would most likely be incompatible with Forge as Exalm originally stated due to how Forge works with the game. And it probably wouldn't work as a mod like you'd install a modern mod since, I think at least, Forge acts as a between layer for Minecraft and mods, allowing access to parts of Minecraft but not all of it. Now maybe it would be possible to create a specialty version of Forge which would bring back SSP, but I really have no clue and it would most likely be a very niche thing.
So for now it'll remain a 1.6.4 only mod, but I do hope to one day try porting/remaking the OldDays mod for newer versions, but I once again still need to learn more about Java.
Sorry, but it's not possible since the Joypad mod requires Forge and OldDays doesn't not and will never support Forge, at least the 1.6.4 version won't. If a port ever does comes for new versions of Minecraft, theoretically it should since it probably would be using Forge.
Yeah so I'm not gonna go and decompile their mod to figure out how it works and attempt to add support to and older version of OldDays. I do apologize for that though, it would just take a lot more effort than I'd like to try and do it. Unless that's what you were saying there pretty much, in which case I'm glad you understand.
No problem, I understand, I thought it might have been simplier. So, if there ever is a future version of olldays, it would be forge compatible? And for what version in particular? Would we be able to disable changes of newer versions?
Yeah it would be fully Forge compatible since I wouldn't be rewriting the SSP mod since singleplayer has gotten much more stable since 1.3. And I'm not too sure what version just whatever version I end up starting with really, so whether it be 1.12, 1.14, or some other newer version, who knows. And yeah it'd work similarly to OldDays for 1.6.4. Some features may not work like in 1.6.4 but I'd do my best to get as many working as possible to allow for as authentic as an experience as possible. So you'd be able to have newer boats or older boats as an option for an example.
From what I've gathered 1.12.2 has the most stable forge and the widest mod library, but choose the one that suits you. I don't think Forge is available to 1.14 tho, and seeing the amount of content it adds, it could prove to be rather difficult to implement an off/on toggle for many features.
In any case, good luck, I look foward to your mod.
Well I was more talking about when I'd make the mod which is a while away since I don't have a ton of coding knowledge in Java, although I got the time now to work on learning it. And also since the forum is closing down, I suppose the best place to find updates on the mod and any newer releases would be the Github page, being right here. https://github.com/Spyro201/Minecraft-mods
RIP Minecraft forums, you were good and shall be missed by many. Without it I probably wouldn't have been playing for as long as I have been.
Oh snap, I didn't know they stopped the shutdown, whoo! Anyways, you can install it into MultiMC using the instructions given just make sure Optifine is loaded AFTER SSP, or somewhere below it. So make sure the version menu has the files in this order:
HOWEVER, there is a caveat to this, Optifine was never really officially supported and can present various bugs, so use with caution especially when installing through the version menu. One such bug I encountered while writing this was no falling snow visible in snowy Alpha maps. If there's a way to give MultiMC custom jar files to use instead of the vanilla ones, I'd highly suggest to install it the original fashion and follow the Optifine install instructions from the OP in the FAQ section.
