only problem with the ghosting feature for block placement is that it works best with the old mode-switching way of placing blocks. Not sure if reimplementing that into current versions of Minecraft would work that well, honestly.
Ok, I tried LAN earlier. I turn start in SMP, turn off SSP, then open to LAN, but my brother doesn't see anything in his LAN scanner. Same when he tries. Also, my friend will not come over here every time we want to play

You don't need to turn off SSP.
Anyway, if he doesn't see anything, it's the bug I talked about. Mojang may want to fix it. :3

Try again but with MCPatcher
That's nice That lighting system was unusable often darkening paintings, is there a difference between Beta 1.7.3 and ClassicLight, they look the same
That lighting system was perfect everywhere except the finite worlds. In infinite worlds it doesn't even have black patches after decaying trees, unlike the default one.
Beta 1.7.3 and ClassicLight — ClassicLight is a current lighting system modification to make it look like the old one by InsanityBringer. It looks very similar, but lacks the chunk-by-chunk day-night transitions and has all the glitches default system has.
Beta 1.7.3 is direct port of old lighting. Has almost no glitches (Except the finite worlds, but they are fixed too now), but is a bit slower.

Here are a few bugs that I found with the current release version.
Skeletons use the old sound effects no matter what setting you use.
Endermen are silent if you set the option to Beta 1.8.1.
Also, Classic worlds seem to be rather glitchy in SSP. I tested this with two worlds. I was flying around in creative mode, and I noticed that there were random bits of the map that I would briefly get stuck in. This doesn't happen in SMP.
As far as I'm concerned, besides some tweaking to support smooth lighting, Alpha v1.1.2_01 and Beta 1.7.3 use the same lighting system.
Smooth lighting does not require any tweaking. They are exactly same.
Sounds: Oops.
Classic: Weird, since it works for me.

However, Mojang broke it few versions ago (0.0.0.0 bug), so it may or may not work for you.
They fixed 1.4.5
So if your using 1.4.5 Up
It should work fine
Hey everyone, I'm back!
Nope.
