Actually, I very recently figured out how to build Exalm's original source code for this mod, and although I'm also currently working on a replacement mod for 1.10.2 and newer, if people want I can also fork the original mod and try to fix any bugs people find.
On the topic of bug reports, just to save people the trouble of searching through 753+ pages of posts, if anyone has bug reports that aren't just "it doesn't work at all", please either post them here or PM me with the issue, and the steps to reproduce it. I will NOT troubleshoot issues with installing the mod. I personally use MultiMC5 and its "jar mod" function, but that's something you can look up easily. I MIGHT create a new dedicated thread at a later date, but for now this will just be easier.
I'm currently using the 1.6.4 version and it seems that walking sounds and block breaking sounds do not work. I have no idea how to reproduce this, if you even can. Just hoping someone has a fix for this. :/

DO NOT OPEN THAT SPOILER!!!
If you are reading this then you you totally ignored what I said about not opening that spoiler three spoilers ago.. Don't you remember? I said "DO NOT OPEN THAT SPOILER!!! But no, you were a rebel and did it anyway!
Sometimes it takes Minecraft a little while to load all the sounds, especially on a fresh install of a particular version. I'd recommend leaving the game open for at least two minutes while making sure you're connected to the internet to let the game finish downloading all the sound files, and see if the problem is still there.
I took your advice. It didn't work however. I did notice something though. If I activate old sounds for a particular mob or other things such as doors or bows, the sounds play. i doubt sounds are kept in the .jar files, so I don't think its the 1.6.4 jar file that Noah posted. I'm going to dig around for the sound files, and will give an update when I find something.
EDIT: I have found the legacy sounds in the assets folder, directly in .minecraft. All the modern day sounds are in the resources folder. Minecraft doesn't seem to be using those.
EDIT 2: I checked the log while loading up the game. Could this be the issue?
Local file C:/Users\MyName\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\assets\indexes/legacy.json has wrong SHA-1 hash, expected but was c0fd82e8ce9fbc93119e40d96d5a4e62cfa3f729
EDIT 3: I fixed it. There seems to be a bug with the newest launcher version that keeps the 1.6.4 assets from downloading. I reverted to the old launcher and it works now.

hey guys, i recently started to play with this mod, and i realized that the worlds arent saving, i look at the log and it says aca: the save is being accessed from another location, aborting any advice?
Hey, does anyone know if this mod's still around? I think it'd be much more appreciated these days. What with the new combat and textures. I personally want the old horse model back. They were so cute and now they're all blocky, plain and seemingly soulless. There's just something off about them.
I really wanted to try out the SSP mod, but it isn't available anymore. Does anyone have a copy of the mod still, or does it not work in versions like 1.9-1.12?

It would be pretty cool if you could port it to 1.7.10. as well.
To be honest, I hope people still check this forum, I haven't posted in ages.
After a lot of deep internet mining, I found a mod for 1.10.2 which is sort of like OldDays (even the name is similar, it's called "Beta Days") but is missing some mechanics. All it currently has is:
No sprinting
No hunger
Old HUD
Instant food consumption (it's missing the "no stack" rule of earlier versions of Minecraft, which sucks)
If you want config-based, meaning you can disable/enable things in the mod's settings, then get v1.2. If you want it to be command-based and so you have to type in the commands each time you join a world, then get v1.3.

That's pretty cool! Honestly I can't wait to see how it goes, I've been scratching to play OldDays with Grimoire of Gaia 3 for the longest time.
Ah, well good to know.

If it's of any help, here's a mod for 1.7.10 that also replicated the old world gen

what happend to all the downloads?
why did Exalm delete all of the downloads? i saved the 2 zips to my dropbox incase he tries to get those other links taken down
He didn't remove them, Dropbox changed their site a little bit, so he has to create a new link for those files.
I may be wrong though.
How exactly would one go about installing it in MultiMC as a jar mod? I tried and it doesnt work.
don't click this link...

Disabling combat-cooldown
You can get the mod here from CurseForge.

if only the latest 1.5.2 spc would work with this.
I'm gonna test to see if the mod works on 1.7.10.
Lol, it is 2018 and I still love this mod!!!!
Someone needs to make it for 1.13 lol. It would just be the best thing ever.
