And if you added in a priority system, you could have your dogs target mobs that you consider more deadly, first. For example have a dog target creepers first, because of their blast radius.
This could also lead to some awesome hunting dogs. Pork Chops, anybody?

I tried that in the past, it was way, way way WAY more trouble than it was worth, trust me on this :smile.gif:

Also, 1.6.2 is out! Lemme know how it works out!
How about patrol dogs? You set a certain perimeter (6x6 squares from a special block?) and they attack any hostile mobs inside of it? Would be great for home defense :biggrin.gif:
*Is thinking of ways to avoid what just happened to his house....* I let one of my dogs out during the night and she started attacking a creeper..but didn't kill it fast enough and it blew a huge hole in the side of my house. It's especially bad when you have Elemental Creepers installed >.<

Damn. That's pretty unlucky, they usually have a very good success rate with killing them at level 5 blackpelt.
As for patrolling, the problem is that without you nearby, they have no way to determine what is and what isn't "bad". They determine it entirely based on whether or not the creature is targeting you for attacks. If you weren't nearby, they wouldn't know the monsters near them are bad.

Ohhh I see!
If that's the way they target monsters, then why do they wait until after cave spiders hit me once, to attack them? I've had that issue horribly bad when exploring abandon mineshafts.

It could be they're not fast enough to catch them. Did you teach your dog DoggyDash?

Two of the four I have, yes. But they actually just stand there and crowd the tunnel while spiders walk towards me. I've actually ran from spiders before and my dogs just followed, they didn't even target the spider until after it hit me.

That's really odd. It might have something to do with line of sight, mineshafts ARE notoriously narrow and annoying to navigate. That's fixed in 1.0 though, but you're using 1.8.1, right? maybe it'll be better then.
Also, 1.6.3 is just a quick bugfix to keep them from pathing directly to your bed at all times. They're supposed to only do that in a general way if they get too far away from your house.
Hey guys, if you could test out the dogs' new wander system, that would be awesome. Lemme know if the dogs tend to stay within 30 blocks of the bed, or if they still wander off somehow.
LOVE this mod!!! But i found it's not compatible with the "generic furniture and tv's" mod while I like this mod way more than the generic furniture one, I would still appreciate it if you could resolve this issue in the next update.

I'm working on making the mod implement customizable item IDs.
I have some questions, well im in this forum just cuz ur Mod, is the best one with the aether mod.
1: We are about to make one server of minecraft with our launcher and we are gonna be able to play online with single player mods, so i ask u, ¿something wrong will happen if we play online with ur mod? like wolf attaking near players, dog bugged in the hause of other guy or that kind of stuff
2: Ur mod work online in another way? just wondering for old experiences
3: theres something like permissions? i guess no cuz its just a mod but im wondering if we can limit the players to have 1 wolf per player, actually the 1.0 have too many wolf's and i dont want to see a player with 100 wolf following hem
4: some bukkit plugins will work with ur mod? if theres no way for limit players to have 1 wolf we cant use this mod
5: if u have something else to suggest its wellcomed...
thats it, great job with ur mod, honestly i dont played with it cuz i hate the single player, thats why i want to put this mod in our server also is my favorit mod, i see a bunch of videos of ur mod.
(If u want to know, our server not is an ordinary server like other ones with bukkit and hamachi, we are working hard for make our own launcher, mods, commands... we are planning to be the best spanish server, if we can count with ur information about ur mod will be awesome)

-sorry for my bad english-
Sorry, it's not available for multiplayer yet. I'm working on it!
However, it doesn't interfere with multiplayer at all, so if you install it on singleplayer, it should still allow multiplayer to function properly.

Yeah I'm still using 1.8.1 I'm keeping a VERY close eye on what mods update and I'm cutting corners on what I absolutely have to keep. Only one or two left before I'll update XD
Regarding experience: The whole reason that only player kills drop xp is to keep people from farming xp with mob farms. However, if I hit the mobs during the attack it counts as me killing it and it drops xp. Usually. I think the problem with trying to fix this you'd have to deal with the fact that the Hellhounds can set things on fire--fire deaths most certainly don't drop xp (at least, in vanilla MC).
Maybe TakeDown as the skill name? (as in, what a police dog does when it catches someone)
I like the idea of the bed pointing/pathing. I haven't had a problem with wander myself since I keep the dogs in pens but i like that idea. IF you don't have something, they follow the cows and sheep and end up bobbing in the water without some sort of direction.
And the puppyhat is just the cutest idea ever, even if the doggies are quite...large for such behavior. :smile.gif: (though how do you know what direction it is pointing?)

EDIT:
Have you considered making a skill for a dog that has a GUI that pops up a target selection screen? It lets you pick how dogs attack enemies... say:
Creeper: Auto-aggro
Cow: Auto-aggro
Skeleton: Tactical
Spider: Docile
And if you added in a priority system, you could have your dogs target mobs that you consider more deadly, first. For example have a dog target creepers first, because of their blast radius.

3rd person my friend, 3rd person.
In Mo' Creatures you can put the turtles on your head. In 1st person view, you can look up and see the turtle. Might want something similar? :]
No, you can still see them in 1st person, it's just harder to tell were theyre looking thanks to their size.
Oh! Okay, awesome :]
Cannot WAIT to get the newest version!
