Sorry to be a bother, but can anyone help me troubleshoot something?
I'm attempting to install the minimap on my girl's Macbook, running OSX 10.5.8.
We updated her Java to Java 10.5.8 Update 10.
I did the research to figure out how Mac mods work, I even got a program that can open up the .jar, and I also tried out MCpatcher for installing the mod.
While I can patch it, and even get the mod in there, I run into an odd issue:
Minecraft will load all the way to the Mojang logo screen and then it seems to just sit there. It won't go past until the mod is removed.
After checking out a "how to install" video for that very mod, for minecraft 1.1, I'm baffled why this one's freezes, and theirs worked just fine, despite following step by step.

Look up the Magic Minecraft Loader. There is a Mac version and you can use it to enable mods without changing the Minecraft.jar file.
The server owner must go to server.properties and go down to motd(message of the day). There they must type in the key words for the minimap. (ex. "&2" for entities radar (player) or "&0&0&1&2&3&4&5&6&7&e&f" for all enabled) It's on the Post underneath the downloads.
I am the server admin and that IS in the Motd. Nothing is turned on via it.

Um, no. The motd in the vanilla server doesn't work for this, it's only used for the text displayed with the server in the server select screen, it isn't displayed to players when they login. You cannot set a message of the day with an unmodded server jar.
To enable entities in SMP you must mod the server jar with either Bukkit, or with the LoginMessage mod Rei has supplied in the first post. If you're using Bukkit already, you need to set up a plugin that displays a message of the day to each player when they login. I use the Essentials for this... in the plugins\Essentials folder there's a motd.txt file, that's where you put the color codes.
If you're not using Bukkit already, I recommend just using Rei's LoginMessage server mod. Once you have installed it, there will be a LoginMessage.txt file added to your root folder with everything enabled for you. You can edit that file to make your server enable whatever you need it to.
Hehe, I downloaded this without noticing the last few updates, spent 3 hours installing mods and then finally set a waypoint. I fell outta my chair! One bug though, if you set a way-point around Oil and then position it so that the oil is behind it it does something weird:
Oil does not show around the waypoint marker. Water and lava does though, do you plan on adding support for BuildCraft Oil?
Press the menu button, by default it is the M key. Click Keyconfig (bottom right just under the menu, you can't miss it.) and then click an action and press the button you want to set it to.
Is there a way to disable hiding the waypoint when I'm looking around it? It makes long distance travel annoying.
If you mean the way the waypoints grey out when you are under them in the minimap no.
If you meant to ask how to hide in-world waypoint markers you can disable different parts of them(or just disable them completely) in the Menu inside Marker Options.
If you meant that the ingame waypoint markers disappear when you walk near them or away from them then you have a bug my friend. I have looked at markers that are over 1k blocks from me and they did not disappear, I also looked straight at them and walked THROUGH them. Pretty sure you aren't supposed to be able to not see them if they aren't disabled.
how i can delete my waypoint?
i cant find any menu or else for this
Press M to enter the menu. Click the Waypoints tab and then click Remove. Your waypoints should say KEEP after that, click on KEEP to change it to X and then click remove when you are done choosing which to delete.
can anyone email me the latest copy of this? my dad blocked dropbox.
Not sure if you still needed a copy, sent you a message. I'll send you one if you don't respond in the next few hours. Have you tried explaining what you need to download to your dad and getting him to disable the block temporarily? What about asking him to download it for you (on another computer if you have one) and stick it on a thumb drive?
Very useful mod, but I have a question.
Do you think you would ever add a function that gives randomly generated names to certain areas?
A useless feature, but interesting I feel.
Same here. I run vanilla client except for Rei's Minimap and when I upgraded to 3.0_01, my compass rotated 90 degrees. My north shows up as east. The sun is setting in the "north" and the clouds are moving north as well according to the minimap. The attached picture is sunset on my server.
Server: Minecraft 1.1 (Bukkit #1820 1.1-R1)
Client: Force Download and using Modloader/Rei's Minimap.
Is there anyone here that have a solution to this annoying problem?

Like a random groups of chunks would be given a randomly generated name (EX: 5 chunks named, Tall Forest or Pointy Jungle, etc.)
No, this hasn't been updated since 1.1, and has been incompatible since the first snapshot post 1.1.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Java is bulky, slow, hogs resources, passes out from exhaustion, and although it was big in the 90's is now typically only found on poorly designed websites. Much like Harry Knowles. So any time Minecraft crashes, blame Java.

Unfortunately it seems we lost another developer for 10.5 as I've tried a dozen ways and it just won't work. I have a couple older model G-4's running 10.5 and the only thing I can think of is the videos are using the old versions of MiniMap that did have support back then. The error I get is it's not the right Java version (Java mismatch). I can get the MCPatcher to install and works great with any HD texture packs so It's got to be Rei's mod that no longer supports Mac 10.5.8 with Java v5, which is the latest and only version available from Apple. It looks like we need v6 which only 10.6 has. It sucks too as my grand kids keep getting lost (well, me too) and then get frustrated and want to quit, so I just made a server for them to play on my newer Mac and then just TP (teleport) them back when they do. The funny thing is I have one of the G-4's as our always on family Minecraft server(v1.1) and works great.
In the Applications/Utility's/Java Preferences mine says:j2SE 5.0----1.5.0_30b3
If the MacBook is upgradable to 10.6 then if you install it on an external disk you can still boot into 10.5 for the older games and such, or the other way around. Snow Leopard 10.6 works fine (other then spending another $30) for the older games as long as they aren't a PPC only game, Rosetta still works. (Similar to 10.5)
Is it possible to implement 'level's as part of this mod.
would be very cool to see what level a person is currently by looking under the map next to the coordinates.
Go to your waypoints menu ingame and your death point should be there, then just delete it it.

You may include this mod into your modpack if you ask nicely for it (post here or PM) and give credit & a link to this thread.
