Ok, first, this is amazing, I love it because it is just like zan's minimap just not as complex. It is simple and useful, and really I think you should keep it that way, which brings it to my next point.

Just disable it if you dont want it. i feel if I'm already installing a minimap that its "overpowered"
Speaking of disappearing, I now have a suggestion which shouldn't be too hard to put into your map. I would love to have the ability to have the map disappear/reappear by pressing a key.
This might sound odd but there are times when I'd like to be able to wander around without the map in the corner. Of course this may already be in the map and I just haven't found it yet.
Apart from that and my round map having a square boarder, I think you've done a great job making this map.........

As a mod author you should make your minimap as functional as you want it to be, and ignore calls for nerfs. A lot of people play single player or on servers that don't care if you use a minimap.

I tend to agree. As long as people have the option to turn off a feature then its entirely up to them if they use it or not. I also use Zombe's mod and I don't use many of its features [like flying] as for me that's not in keeping with the original intent of the game. But my lad loves it as he's heavily into designing and uses it al the time. I even had to move the score mod's icon to the middle of the screen because on the left it interferes with info re his flying and on the right it is hidden by this map. Thankfully the author of the score mod put options in to cater for others.

BTW, I tried the other map to be fair to the other modder and apart from it lagging really badly, it wasn't a patch on yours. The only thing it did better was to have a round map without the square boarders yours has. But then again my lad says its a good thing as it shows more land beyond the circle. Also yours doesn't overwrite any existing files and has all but one file in an easy to install folder.
Incidently, after removing your map and all its original files. I tried the other map and then reinstalled yours again and the waypoints I had made were still there. So I'm wondering if you could tell me where they are located in the game?

I check this thread everyday to see if any updates are available. This has become one of my new favorite toys. And i have always believed the more options the better. As long as they are able to be toggled, that should please EVERYONE. You would think so anyway.
I do like this map more than Zan's. However, it does have the advantage in servers that have a Nether.
When we travel through the Nether, all we can see is bedrock, and the waypoints are separate.
In Zan's, it automatically switches to the cavemap mode and converts the waypoints from the overworld to their Nether equivalents.
Would this functionality be difficult to include?
Wow, I just come out from my hiding hole just to say how awesome this map is. Definitely better than Zan's Minimap!
And yes, pls add cave map, just make it an option to turn it on/off so that nobody will complaint about it.

One thing I noticed is that when I switch to round map the square map remains while putting the round map inside it. I don't know if its supposed to work that way but I thought I'd ask as its showing as round in your pictures.

I play on a SMP server with a few friends. We would love to have caves and interior spaces display on the map when we're inside them. I don't see why this would be considered cheating of any sort at all. But because some people apparently think it would be, there may as well be an option for server admins to send a message to the minimap mod telling it to turn off that option. The same applies to entity radar. I probably would only use it for showing the locations of other players, so that when my friend says "Look over here" I can figure out where "here" is. :smile.gif: I can see how showing monsters (or on a PVP sever, players too) could be considered cheating, so it's up to the individual or the server admins whether they want to use or allow the use of such a feature.
I think the best goal would be to have a server plugin which would tell the minimap plugin which entities should be displayed. You could have a list of rules to determine which would be shown and under what conditions, each of which could be enabled or disabled, for example:
Only show entities with line of sight
Never show players
Never show hostile mobs
Never show peaceful mobs
Other options to control behavior could be added as well. In single-player, the player would have full control of these options. On a multi-player server, these options could be disabled unless the server had the partner mod installed, which would tell the client mod which of those options could be enabled.
Of course, doing it like this would make the project more complex than a client-side-only mod... Server modding could be quite different from client modding...
Ok, well there has been alot of controversy over should whether cave mapping should be added and should it not. Well I feel like many of the people who think that cavemapping should be added is malinformed about certain things, so I am here to clarify.
First of all, I would just like to let people know of my specific situation, and the situation of many people who I play minecraft with. Right now, the server I play on is making a Very large subway system that goes across just about all of the map and it is 10kx10k. SO as you can imagine there is alot of need for a minimap because of the displayed coordinates and the ability to see the the ground above.
However, you might be saying to yourselves "wow, this guy actually sounds like he has a very good use for the cave mapping option", which is where you are wrong, because right now due to Zanz minimap having the cave mapping option, Zanz minimap is not allowed on the server due to it being used to cheat. Some possible reply's to this fact are "why dont you just turn off the cave minimap option?" or "why don't you play on a different server?" Well in rebuttle to that, because zanz minimap does not help servers tell if a player has the cave mapping enabled, it is disallowed either way because there is no way of telling if the player is cheating or not. And to the "Why don't you play on a different server?" Well I am a mod on the server, it is a pretty good server, and I am not going to play on a different server just to use a minimap.
Which leads into another one of my points, I and about 40 other players will not be able to use your minimap if you add the cave function, and also whoever else is on a server where zanz minimap is not allowed, neither will yours.
Now this leads to another possible reply to this "If your server doesn't allow it, then that sucks for you, but let us who CAN use it, at least give the option to use to use it."
If you want to get a cheating mod, go get flyhack, speedhack, zombe's pack, x-ray hacks, and zanz minimap, and see how fast you can get banned. But lets keep this mod, one of the few client mods that 1. Keep the game balanced, 2. Help the player, 3. Can be used on a vanilla server, and 4. Is not considered a cheating mod.
This is a good mod, and lets keep it that way.
