Update: This topic is officially "HOT"! Thanks to the modders! Update 2: Thanks Admins for fixing the misunderstanding with the topic movement. =)
My original request:
A lot of friendly people have updated this mod from 1.2.5 since I requested it! This mod forces Rei's Minimap, a fantastic minimap mod, to show entities such as mobs and players as well as enable the Cave Mapping feature in Multiplayer; both features are disabled in multiplayer by default. This mod is very small and easy to install.
Thanks to
Crunchy_Nut -- re-compiling 1.2.5, update to 1.3.1
catmenFromTV -- Update to 1.3.2, update to 1.4.2
IX iTzRogue XI -- Update to 1.4.5, update to 1.4.6 + 1.4.7
Woop-- Update to 1.5.1 + 1.5.2
TekkifyLife -- Update to 1.6.2
(They did the work, I just asked. Feel free to +1 their posts!)
1. Install either ModloaderORMinecraft Forge (not both)
2. Place Rei's Minimap into the minecraft --> mods folder (NOT into minecraft.jar)
3. Place the "ReiMonkey.jar" file in the minecraft --> mods folder
If you installed Rei's Minimap into the minecraft.jar, then put the ReiMonkey .class file into the minecraft.jar.
This mod is open-source. This means you can take the source code and add an entity, update it, make creepers dance, whatever, as long as you give credit to the authors. This also means that you can use this in ModPacks, other collections of mods, servers, etc etc; but please provide a link to this forum post and the creator of the mod version you are using. Thank you!
Info about updating this mod (for modders, not users):
Hello, modders! Rei's minimap, as you may know, is a very popular Minimap mod; however, Cave Mapping and Entity Mapping are disabled by default in SMP unless the server operator puts special color codes in the welcome message. ReiMonkey forces Rei's Minimap to allow Cave Mapping and Entity Mapping in SMP by using a method called "monkey patching". Source codes are available from the original author's page (a link is located in the "old versions" section). When/if you update this mod, I would prefer if you follow these guidelines. (However, because I'm not a modder, the creator of ReiMonkey, or really even managing this mod myself, I can't force anything upon you; even just the update is appreciated.)
1. Please do not use file hosting that have wait times to download the file; https://github.com/ is preferred, and is great for source code. http://box.com/ and http://dropbox.com/ are preferred for simply file hosting.
2. Please provide a link to the source code (or include it with the download if you use simple file hosting).
3. Due to the fact that you did not write the source code originally, please do not use monetary or ad-based link shorteners (such as adf.ly).
That's all. Thank you for your work, it is very much appreciated!
Oh dear, call the police!
You act like a child that had his toy confiscated, so now it's time to tell on someone!
Well, you've asked for it.
The most impressive feature "Entity Radar" is merely showcased, unless you're fine contemplating it in singleplayer. (Player Entities? Singleplayer, really?)
As if a server is going to screw with their motd to then enable what is considered a "Cheat" anyway.
Rei defeats the purpose of the key feature to his own mod. It's like me making an xray mod with the ability for servers to enable/disable it. I mean, is a server really going to allow it? Yes, we want cheating, griefing and hacks on our server! No, far from likely, yet is this even remotely close to such horror? No.
Time for some advantages of this mod over vanilla play: The map itself allows the abilities of seeing widely around you from what you normally couldn't, point out lava near you, aid you entirely environmentally with a helpful large map with aerial view, surface map options which show the accurate biome borders in the world. All of that is certainly better than what you see in first-person at ground level. As for death points, it's aiding you to find your exact location of death, without it your items despawn due to running around in panic or years away from location resulting in giving up. It also allows you to see everything above when below ground, saves you carrying a clock so that's doing away with that items purpose. Why not enable cave mapping to see what's below when above? Both tie up. So sure why not allow an overview of entities near you? It's great to see a rough estimate of how many mobs spawn in a mob grinder without having to break into it, light up and see. It can be for whatever personal uses you may have.
I love your attitude Rei, it's the type that ends up giving one the symptoms of inverted genitals. You not only swim in controversy, but you're clearly unable to define what "cheating" means. Pretty sure I've fed you a fair share of what anyone would class as "Advantageous"
In my sense of realism, there is only one option or the other. Have all features, or neither at all. (Or simply remove this half-asscheeked feature, but then everything else is pretty much advantageous too)
Which is it to be? Food and water. Food without water. Or starve without either.
cheating present participle of cheat (Verb)
Verb
•Act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage
I've seen a few tutorials on how to install Rei's Minimap in 1.6.2 and they are helpful. But it seems like they are all for new worlds. What if I want to install it for my current worlds? Do I edit the 1.6.2 file instead of copying it and making a new one? Sorry, I'm fairly new to MC and don't want to mess up my files.
Thanks for any help.
EDIT: Nevermind. I installed it and it works fine.
I am running Minecraft 1.6.2 with the latest Modloader (with a patch that fixes a few of its bugs) and this Minimap mod (1.6.2, v3.4_01). However, I'm having a couple problems with it:
1) When I switch to Cave render and go underground, it doesn't actually show anything but a uniform bright green, even when I'm mining out space or go into an underground cave
2) The entity radar doesn't update as I move, so it looks like the monsters are just as far away from me as I go toward them
1. Can you make it so you could look around the map when you press x?
2. Can you make it so you could teleport to waypoints? That would be soooo useful and awesome!
3. Can you make it so when you have the entity radar on, can you make it so you could show what people are wearing and their skin because I want to know if they are wearing diamond armor or something because if I am playing Hunger Games and they have diamond armor, I know to run away from them. That would be very useful, too.
Jarjpg, you're acting like a child You're getting entirely worked up over something that doesn't really matter, insulting others in the meantime, and acting superior. You disagree with Rei's design philosophy? Make your own mod where entity radar is enabled by default. I have used this mod for over a year now and I have never missed entity mapping. I suspect most others don't either. You come on here, insulting others, throwing a tantrum that you disguise in "logic, purely spelled out in English" and for what? Rei is a talented modder but he is not fluent in English. I don't even know how often he reads this forum. So you're ranting and whining to... no one.

Dunno about #2, all features work well for me, but #1 is dependent on light (illuminated caves show up, dark caves do not. Bit of an anti-cave detection system.
You managed to decompile and continue without me giving source code? O_O Bro, you are a god. Of course do whatever the [REDACTED] you want!!!! Good luck on it

I was having same issue, I tried again without modloader and it works fine.
Said thread has since gone missing. Coincidence? (No, really. I want to know.)
Can't stop the signal, Mal.
Oh, ik, but the thread was just so convenient.
well that sounds familiar
