But if I set the render distance to tiny, back in 1.4.2, the large map wouldn't show only the rendered terrain, but a lot more. Somehow, it doesn't seem to work with the current loaded chunks, or it asks to briefly load chunks to save the image of the surface. (I'm just guessing, as I don't know how it works). The thing is that before it worked and now it doesn't...
Yeah this is happening for me too. It seems to be new in the 1.4.4 update. I hope it gets fixed.
I set up a Feed The Beast server for myself and my son. When I set MOTD to &0&0&1&2&3&4&5&6&7&e&f like the first post says, I still have no option to turn on entity mapping. Am I missing a step?
That doesn't go in the MOTD, it goes in the welcome message that's displayed when a player logs into the server. Unfortunately there's no way to show a welcome message unless you install a server mod. Rei provides one in the OP called LoginMessage, or there are several options if you're running Bukkit (I don't know what "Feed The Beast" is, maybe there's an option in that).
The MOTD field in server.properties is only displayed on the list of servers in the Multiplayer screen.
A recommendation if Rei's is still being actively developed. Capture the output of the /seed command to enable slime chunks in multiplayer Since it's an Op command, this will allow ops to see the slime chunks
Not sure if anyone who can help fix stuff reads this but I'm getting the following class error upon launching the newest rei's build with 1.4.4.
Exception in thread "Minecraft main thread" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: asn.<init>(Lasb;Lard;Lazc;)V

at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:680)
This means it freezes at the white "Mojang" screen.
Help would be appreciated. Mac 10.6.8
EDIT: Appears to only have a problem when combined with optifine. By itself it works fine.
EDIT 2: Fixed it. Stupid mistake on my behalf. :/

FTB is a mod pack with a bunch of cool mods.
I installed the mods listed and it works now, thanks!
...it's quite possible that, given the voice-overs, that it was part of the "story" to be able to pop a Map into his inventory, and "magically" have a mini-map appear. All he'd have to do, is push a single button to make it show (for me, it's F4) at the same time he dropped the map into his Hotbar.
When in doubt, you could always ask the person who did the video. But to the best of my knowledge, there isn't a "Mini-map is only active, when a Map is in your inventory" modification... especially not in Rei's Mini-map.
Good Point. Wish I knew how to make that. I feel like the Minimap is a bit cheating just having it but I'm not a big fan of also having to look down at the paper map everytime I need it.
Good Point. Wish I knew how to make that. I feel like the Minimap is a bit cheating just having it but I'm not a big fan of also having to look down at the paper map everytime I need it.
I think I might have "solved" the mystery... but, it's actually not going to be easy to replicate this for yourself (and I don't fully know how to do this myself, because I'm still learning).
I'm starting to think that the person who did that video is using both Rei's Minimap and Macro / Keybind... and set up an "action script", that checks the item placed in the hotbar slot to see if there is a "Menu" in a slot, and does a call to press the button that he assigned to call up the Minimap.
I've seen some scripts that detect the hunger level of the player, and then when the Hunger reaches a set point (or lower), does a call to check a specific Hotbar slot for a specific food item, and then does a call to switch to that slot, and use the (correct) food item, until the Hunger meter is full again.
It'd be child's play for someone well enough versed in Macro / Keybind to pull this off. Sadly, I can barely even do automatic commands to make the game feed me food using the "OnEvent" commands, with Control Pack as a mediator to handle the "Find the food item, and automatically feed me" portion of the script I'd have had to write.
You might want to go to the Macro / Keybind thread and see if the script gurus can give you a hand with this. I'm sure someone there knows ~exactly~ how to do this, and would be willing to help you out.
Plus, Macro / Keybind is part of VoxelModPack, which includes Rei's Minimap, and HD Texture fixes from MCPatcher... meaning if you'd not using a bunch of other mods already, you can do a "One download" installation this way, and get the mods you'd need. I highly recommend it.

It's purely OptiFine. OF modifies chunk loading so they might not get loaded as fast, you might want to try changing its settings for chunk loading and/or rendering distance. If your rendering distance is just higher than what the minimap can show you can easily go fast in a direction and get unloaded chunks on it. So raising the rendering distance can help or it can also make it worse if your computer can't handle the added load.
I've noticed a problem on the mini-map when I have downloaded the latest version of rei's mini-map:
problem is as follows
when I have HD pached minecraft the minimap will show the sea/water as grey in the minimap (I have included a screen shot to show you, http://gyazo.com/7d0...59dc9236803cb91 )
Thanks for your time
Mark Bestford
You're using Dokucraft, right? I use that texture pack too and I'm also having the mini map display water as grey. Any ideas what's causing it and how to fix it?
Edit: I just switched texture packs to see if it's Dokucraft related and it is. The mini map displayed water fine with the other texture pack.
Can anyone help me? This happens when I use rei's minimap, its like it can't load that part of the map?
I am using Minecraft 1.4.4 and Tale of kingdoms mod. That and Optifine are my only mods. The texture pack i am using is faithfuls 32x32 and i have checked that is not the problem.
