Cave mapping and entities radar of the SMP is disabled by default.
When the server owner (using bukkitplugin/other) sets the key word to motd(login message), they become effective.

Basic tip:
Disable these both features for SMP play (by using the casual
if (!world.multiplayerWorld)
), then noone could possibly complain about.
I'm not entirely sure, but according to the updated policy you would be allowed to make such cheats...
Though one could argue that a secret-base detector (cavemap, entity radar) could be used for excessive griefing.
As i've said, just disable these both features for SMP and noone can complain ^^

Before Notch added the MOTD (message of the day) the term was used for something else: It was the text displayed in the chat when you log in. This was configurable with plugins such as Essentials. But since Notch added the MOTD for 1.8, the meaning of the word changed. since then it's the Server Display Message rather than the Login Message. Although Rei uses the term "MOTD", he means the Login Message.
To make sure you could make a Login Message in Vanilla Minecraft, Rei made a minimod (LoginMessage v0.3 at, I think) so that people could still enable the two features in Vanilla SMP.

Q - So normally this mod works fine, but one day my map disappeared from my screen. I'm 100% sure I installed this mod right. What now?
A - Go to the in-game menu (default M key) and re-enable the "Rei's Minimap" option.
Q - Can I convert my Zan's/CJB's waypoints to Rei's minimap?
A - Yes, but you have to do it manually, by writing down the coords of the waypoints and adding them in the rei_minimap waypoints config.
Q - Err.. What is a "Guinea Pig version"?
A - It's a minimap test version for the next Minecraft version, meaning the mod can be instable and/or misses several features which are normally there. Doesn't mean it's always the case.
Q - The map seems to be blurry when I zoom in. How so?
A - This can be disabled in the menu, the "Filtering" option. Disabling it will take slighty more memory and will make the map look a bit low-pixeled when you zoom out again.
Q - Actually, what makes this minimap so different from all others?
A - Terrain undulation, Biome colour display, water transparancy, 1.8 lighting engine implemention, slime spawn chunk higlighting, lots of customization, fast updating to newer version, incredibly advanced viewing options, no FPS or performance drop. NEW: Chunk grid, entity radar & cavemapping.
Q - Can I edit the colours on the minimap so it looks better with my texture pack?
A - This is done automatically. No need for any modding/editing, just switch in-game to the texture pack and you're good to go.
Q - Can I edit the colours on the minimap so it works with another mod which adds items?
A - Nope, the colour editing function got removed. Possibly there will be a way to display custom blocks on the map in the future.
Q - Can I disable certain blocks on the map, for example trees?
A - No, Rei is not planning to implement it yet. He'll see what the future brings.

Cant wait for the new features; Only one Issue so far;
My font is messed up; I am sure its not a compatibility issue as i checked to see if they use same .class Which they dont with my mods.
Examples Click ; If you find the image of the Main Menu (Single player, Multiplayer etc..) That is my default font; However on the other images the font is rather weird :sad.gif: Not a major issue just thought i would point it out.
EDIT: It seems HD Textures are an issue; I use a 32x texture and the torches have weird dots and other items are effects too :S (was not like that before this EPIC minimap).
EDIT 2: Is it possible to get a 1.5x Zoom? :smile.gif:

I have been looking for a replacement minimap for quite some time now. From reading the OP and looking at the pics, i am looking forward to giving this a try. Nicely done. Downloading and bookmarked.
This minimap looks awsome, and if it really is fast processing as it says in the description then im going to replace my minimap for this one right away.

Could you explain how this works? Zan's Minimap uses Multithreading (which might screw with chunks, but seeing as I play online that's not important for me personally). How do you make sure performance doesn't suffer, does it have any drawbacks (downsides)?
I do not intend to speak badly about it, I'm just interested in these small details (I think it's an interesting read to know how people optimize stuff, might just be me thought).
It sounds pretty interesting to use though, I'll try once I decide/ have time to play minecraft again.
Great work i might add, I really like the presentation of the heightmap you've done :smile.gif:
Maybe check if there is a certain amount of light from torches and if yes, draw that portion of the map (other parts could be left dark). That way you could navigate through already explored areas easily without giving away hidden stuff.
Only show them if they are in direct line of sight? (and maybe only in a certain radius - you could set the radius when entities are shown on the map to the view range on tiny)
Also this feature could include options to leave certain entities out, for example if you don't want to see sheep on the map, or zombies, etc.
Both these "limitations" would (in my opinion) reduce the "cheat" feel (especially for the cave map). The only problem I could see arising would be performance when checking for light from torches or having to calculate what is in your line of sight.
Awesome mod! The graphics are great! I actually saw a increase of fps improvement from Zan's Minimap to this one. Im gonna use this one for a while :biggrin.gif:

Basic tip:
Disable these both features for SMP play (by using the casual
), then noone could possibly complain about.
I'm not entirely sure, but according to the updated policy you would be allowed to make such cheats...
Though one could argue that a secret-base detector (cavemap, entity radar) could be used for excessive griefing.
As i've said, just disable these both features for SMP and noone can complain ^^

Cant wait for the new features; Only one Issue so far;
My font is messed up; I am sure its not a compatibility issue as i checked to see if they use same .class Which they dont with my mods.
Examples Click ; If you find the image of the Main Menu (Single player, Multiplayer etc..) That is my default font; However on the other images the font is rather weird :sad.gif: Not a major issue just thought i would point it out.
EDIT: It seems HD Textures are an issue; I use a 32x texture and the torches have weird dots and other items are effects too :S (was not like that before this EPIC minimap).
EDIT 2: Is it possible to get a 1.5x Zoom? :smile.gif:
I have been looking for a replacement minimap for quite some time now. From reading the OP and looking at the pics, i am looking forward to giving this a try. Nicely done. Downloading and bookmarked.

Could you explain how this works? Zan's Minimap uses Multithreading (which might screw with chunks, but seeing as I play online that's not important for me personally). How do you make sure performance doesn't suffer, does it have any drawbacks (downsides)?
I do not intend to speak badly about it, I'm just interested in these small details (I think it's an interesting read to know how people optimize stuff, might just be me thought).
It sounds pretty interesting to use though, I'll try once I decide/ have time to play minecraft again.

Maybe check if there is a certain amount of light from torches and if yes, draw that portion of the map (other parts could be left dark). That way you could navigate through already explored areas easily without giving away hidden stuff.
Only show them if they are in direct line of sight? (and maybe only in a certain radius - you could set the radius when entities are shown on the map to the view range on tiny)
Also this feature could include options to leave certain entities out, for example if you don't want to see sheep on the map, or zombies, etc.
Both these "limitations" would (in my opinion) reduce the "cheat" feel (especially for the cave map). The only problem I could see arising would be performance when checking for light from torches or having to calculate what is in your line of sight.
Awesome mod! The graphics are great! I actually saw a increase of fps improvement from Zan's Minimap to this one. Im gonna use this one for a while :biggrin.gif:
