NOTE: A strange french website has copied this mod at version v1.1b onto it with my direct download link for that, so now I've added a copyright notice to the bottom. If you wish to host this mod, you are now not allowed to use direct download links but instead must use the topmost adf.ly link.
v1.3 Changelog:
- Added Engineer Droids! Read down below to find out exactly what is added and recipes and stuff

This mod requires modloader. Just copy the zip file you downloaded into %AppData%/.minecraft/mods to install.
If you wish to change the item/block IDs of any of the new blocks/items then copy this into a text file and save it as "%AppData%/.minecraft/robocraft.properties":
This mod is simply robots. They are all friendly and you have to make them (they obviously don't spawn naturally since that would be unrealistic). Now iron robots are clunky and would rust, so I've created Aluminium! Well, just added it. Now aluminium doesn't occurs naturally as an ore, instead it takes the form of bauxite, aluminium oxide. It looks like this and is as common as iron:
Now bauxite ore drops plain old bauxite dust. Now everyone with any intelligence knows that to get aluminium out of bauxite (aluminium oxide), you can't use the conventional shove-into-a-furnace method. You have to use electrolysis! The only problem is that is currently impossible in minecraft, so I went ahead and made an electrolysis machine for you:
This machine is very much like the furnace, except the only thing it extracts is aluminium. It smelts in 3/4 of normal furnace time, allowing you to get to your aluminium quicker. Here is what you do to get aluminium:
Now you must be thinking "Ok so you've added a new ore and a new machine to smelt it, WHERES MAH ROBOTZ?!?!?!" Well the answer is, not here yet. To make robots of course you will needs parts for them. So lets start with a plain old wheel:
This is a shapeless recipe so you can place either items anywhere on the crafting grid. The first robot which utilises the wheels is the storage droid:
This little fella follows you around obediently, carrying 2 stacks of items for you. It has the same amount of health as you, and his name is randomly generated! How cool is that? Now to make this robot yourself would take a lot of time and effort, depending on how fast you can move your mouse :tongue.gif:. Here is the recipe:
To use this storage droid item, you cannot place it straight away. You must allow higher forces to bring life to it! Or in other words, the mob factory:
This is another machine whos sole purpose is to create creatures of various sorts. Stick the storage droid into the mob factory, add some fuel and when it's done you'll have your own portable mini-chest! You can also put some other items into the mob factory which are strictly confidential, have a go and see if you can find them all.
After having this little droid follow you around for a while you might think that he is a little weak. He can't defend himself, and what if the poor fella dies? Well he last procedure programmed into him is to eject the items. You can of course pick up his remains and shove them into a mob factory, thus producing another entirely new storage droid. You might also be wondering how to stop him from getting in the way? You're trying to build an extension to your house and all he does is sit on the blocks you are trying to build on. Well I invented this handy little remote control for you:
Using this remote control you can command your robot to stay or follow, just right-click your little buddy while holding it. A little message will pop-up telling you it has suceeded:
Now because these droids are so weak, they die a lot. Sometimes losing your precious items in a pool of lava or drop them into a dungeon where you cannot reach without endangering yourself. So I added some bulk. Stick a little obsidian and glass shield around your droid and you can make a reinforced one:
This droid is completely invulnerable to all damage and cannot catch on fire. Very handy in most situations. Like the normal storage droid, he gets a little name and health bar except his will NEVER DEPLETE. Stick 2 item stacks in him and they will be safer than they ever could be. He can be controlled by the remote control to stay or follow as usual.
Now you may think that storage in a droid is slightly useless. Even if it is completely safe. So I invented the engineer droid and programmed it into all mob factories! Just craft the parts for it like so (Recipe may change later):
Now these guys aren't quite so cute, but they do their job!
Of course these guys need a tool for repairing, so I invented the zapper! Not a particularly elegant name but the technology inside is at such a high level it can fix metal and even repair damaged tissue! This means the engineer droid can follow you around and heal you and your little robot team! If he detects an injured robot or you, he will immediately rush forward and fix you. The zappers come in three tiers, iron, aluminium and diamond:
Different tiers heal different amounts and can withstand different amounts of uses. Unfortunately the technology in the zappers is so high that humans are incapable of using it, but I will attempt to simplify the controls for a later release!
In progress:
Soldier droids! These droids will follow you and stay like others but instead of giving it zappers you will give it one of 3 weapons! The weakest weapon being the classic iron sword, the next being a slightly better chainsaw made of aluminium and the last being a lightning sword! Lightning swords will be made up of aluminium and zappers and will strike lightning where hit! Here is the current model for soldier droids, I think it's pretty good so far:

you should make an astromech droid companion that could hold a 1/4 of your inventory space and will help you fight that would be epic also for names randomly genertad like b6-83 or something good mod
Armour sounds like a good idea. Dreamlash: I've got the pathfinding revised to the extent that getting in the way almost never happens. They will not push you at all.

Elemental Creepers - because simply blowing a hole in your wall isn't enough
No, this is generated in 4 steps, 1st a consonant combo (one or two consonants that sound good), 2nd a vowel, 3rd another combo and 4th "oid". Not that hard. I may improve it to add more bias towards better sounding ones in actual release.

I will test this mod with my current mod pack, Metroplois. When and if I get it done would you allow me to include it in the official mod pack release?
@wakko151: I don't forbid it. I'd prefer if you'd wait until a proper release because I still have bugs to squash and many more features. Feel free to add it if you like, but as you can see above your post there seems to be some problems.
Good to know, guys! I've been half-working on an irc bot on the side but since this mod is already more popular than my others in terms of downloads I will definitely put it on hold.

Anyway, just wanted to post with a new idea: MINER DWARF. I'm sure you can guess what his catchphrase will be :tongue.gif:

@Blasphemy8: think you could get me an error log? Run minecraft with this and paste the error in code tags: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23286303/minecrafterrortest.bat
EDIT: Blasphemy no need, I found and fixed the problem :tongue.gif:
