There have been dynamic lights mods before, but they got really laggy since MC isn't designed to work that way. Mojang are doing a complete rewrite of the lighting engine right now, so it might be possible in the future depending on the direction they take with it.
God Damnit.. why is it every time I go to watch a stream, it's over
This is going back a few pages, but, regarding how long the upgrade took.. it's easy to forget that Eloraam NEVER does a straight version port, she always wants to have a new feature in the mod. For better or worse if she doesn't have time to write one - I'm hoping she changes that policy for PR7/1.4 xD
Make logic element that will pulse several times(you can set how many times) when you activate it with redstone!
I don't think that she will add a tile like that. It is quite easy to make.
Hook up a pulse former to a State Cell. To the continuous output, connect a not gate which is connected to a Timer. Set the time interval between each pulse on the timer, and multiply that time by the number of pulses you want. Set that time in the statecell. You now have a machine that pulses a fixed number of times when you give a input.

I caught some of it. Didn't see too much of RP2 but I did get to hear about the big news from Forge, Forge and Bukkit together! No more having to port mods. Add that into Forge's current set up (client and server in one package) and mod authors will only have to maintain a single codebase.
The moderators are really on the ball these days, I see
It will be fun to see firsthand what the lag is between what happens on the server and Direwolf's subsequent video uploads. My guess is he's got about two episodes to go before we see a Season 3 switch to the current 1.3.2 server with Elo's alpha. That might be optimistic though. I've never really paid attention to the latency before, re: trying to reconcile modders live streaming with Dire's LPs that happen to interact with those streams.
Well, the changes that came on 1.3 that broke RP are not so visible. There is much programmed stuff in-game that you may not notice at all. But, eh, I don't what everything changed.
To be more specific, 1.3 implemented a new server/client system which is used for every part of gameplay, even in singleplayer. As I understand, it's not really that specific features were broken, but rather that the entire foundation of the game changed shape, and massive renovations had to be done with everything that's interacted with it. Red Power seems to have been hit especially hard because A: Eloraam is busy enough with other things in her life that she can't devote as much time to programming as she has previously, and B: Red Power is a big mod that's very intimate with the underlying game, which caused the changes moving to 1.3 to be greater overall.
This is just what I've gathered from skimming around this thread and comparing to my own programming experience; I may have missed some details.
By the way guys, moving lights that move with the player are possible. Over on the IC2 forums there is an addon called GregTech. It includes a headlamp that simply creates a transparent, light emitting block on the players head. I have used the addon before, it is lag free.

Used to run game servers. Makes textures. AMA about running game servers.
Allright.. DW's serverplay 1.2.5 just got a final video.
That answers the question about DW's episode cache size.
As of around midnight last night Matta said on his twitch that DW had recorded 3 episodes of the new season. I imagine the early season stuff records pretty quick. When you don't have to do a bunch of complicated building you really don't have to do too much off camera. He also mentioned that all DW had in his world was 2 cobblestone huts. From the sounds of it they are trying to make sure that more happens in the overworld then last season.
Matta didn't really show too much as he was mining for mats, so I didn't see much of RP but he did say that they were using an alpha build of RP and that Elo would leave a lot to go fix bugs. They also have an early build of Xycraft going which adds a bunch of crystals that apparently have little to no use right now.

i know that the zeppline mod is also having a lot of trouble with 1.3
should just skip all the new "epicness" and get a working port out already^^ ;P
Based on Mattabase's stream, I think most of the features are already implemented. It's just bug testing now.

I CANNOT wait for this release! I have Fall Break from university on Monday and Tuesday, so I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed!
My server is on standby, waiting for RedPower2 worldgen. Thanks again Eloraam, YOU ARE THE BEST!
you dont fill a tea pot with boiling water, you fill it with cold/room temp water and bring it to a boil on a stove or fire
the server is only for the authors of the mods that are on it, special friends, and lucky people
Almost nobody gets in there without being the Minecraft equivalent of famous.
Yeah I have the exact same break and I hope that i can use my time well
I also have a server in limbo. My friends and I have an instance all loaded up while waiting for this singular update XD
Told!
.....
damn you
