Hi, I love the mod but i am having a HUGE problem. I tried various different methods but it still won't work. I did this over and OVER again. When I start up my minecraft, I just get a black screen. Is it because I have minecraft 1.2.3?
Hi, I love the mod but i am having a HUGE problem. I tried various different methods but it still won't work. I did this over and OVER again. When I start up my minecraft, I just get a black screen. Is it because I have minecraft 1.2.3?
If you get a black screen, it usually means you did SOMETHING wrong with the installation. It is very vague however and we can only give you tips.
- If you have not installed the META_INF folder in the minecraft.jar after installing mods, do so.
- Make sure that the mod versions you install are made for 1.2.3 and they work with each other.
- Try installing from my packages and see if that works (you will still need to delete meta_inf).
I'm a little confused by the configuration options. I've been experimenting with random values and trying to decipher the effects, but there's something of a lack of documentation in the file. Is it possible to expand the documentation present to be a little more verbose, detailing the effects of tweaking the numbers?
My current goal is to make it so you can sprint for much longer before becoming exhausted, but that exhaustion also takes much longer to recover from, representing a closer feel to real life aerobics and depletion of lactates in the blood. I'm getting a little daunted by the sheer depth of options and the way that the configuration keys influence settings, although I'm still playing around with it.
One thing I'd like to request is an optional friction setting for various block types (by ID). Sliding on your belly across ice is fun, safe, and you'll slide for some distance, sliding on your belly through snow and sand is fun and safe but you won't go nearly as far, sliding on your belly across gravel or dirt... not so much of any of the above.
Another request is to allow one of two things when hunger is high enough that you can no longer recuperate against exhaustion:
1) Allow free climbing over 1-block-high tiles for free, or
2) Allow jumping over 1-block-high tiles for free.
I think option 1 is more realistic than option 2; humans are wired to be capable of great feats of aerobic power (endurance) during starvation/fatigue situations when their survival depends on it, but anaerobic power (strength) is one of the first things to go during starvation/fatigue. A starving person can crawl for miles but is unlikely to be able to push themselves off of the ground.
However, option 2 is more liable to be intuitive to someone already experienced with Minecraft (i.e., most anyone who wants to mod it), because climbing is done with the "wrong key" compared to what could be months or years of experience with jumping over small blocks.
Without either of these features, hunger is a game breaker for me. I have to switch to None to be able to climb hills, because on Hard jumping consumes energy, whereas on Medium it doesn't but is still locked out if your energy has been consumed by other means. I have to break immersion and toggle F9 a couple of times to continue playing.
In any case, love the mod. Definitely a contender for vanilla Minecraft, although I think the zombies should then be capable of doing most of the same things (e.g., jumping and climbing up 2 blocks' height).
Blue_Legion This is kinda off topic but what is the smart moving feature your waiting for for Freak Raider?
Wall/Ledge jumping (Hanging from a ledge and jump off of the wall to propel yourself into the opposite direction). Divisor said its coming, but progress is slow. I'll just have to be patient for now.

Please DO learn to read! I do not want to requote myself every time someone can't figure out how to install the mod properly.
You are experiencing these problems because SmartMoving is NOT properly installed on the server. Others cannot see your smartmoving animations because the server does not understand the information sent to it, and thus cannot forward these informations to the other clients in turn. Also, you cannot crawl into 1x1 holes because for the server your size is still 1x2.
Install SmartMoving on the server and it will be able to properly interpret SmartMoving data sent to it by the clients.
Somehow it just won't work for me. I tried to install the ModloaderMP package but it's always crashing...

This happens no matter if I only install this mod (with Player API, Modloader and ModloaderMP of course), or with everything else.
Can anybody help me?
That's the infamous ModloaderMP error people have been getting recently.
All we can do is wait until Divisor addresses this issue; for now, use the Modloader package.

Weird. I am currently not having problems with the modloaderMP package. Which version of ModloaderMP and SmartMoving are you trying to use?

I haven't tried Smart Moving on 1.2.3 yet, I just noticed the flood of error reports containing that same message that came in as the 1.2.3 version was released. I guess it's already been fixed if it's working for you. I'm gonna try it in a minute.
EDIT: Ah, it does work now.
After reading your Error log a little more PureTryOut, I can see you're using Smart Moving 6.14; you'll need the newest version.

This. Or, if you DO want to keep using SmartMoving 6.14 (although i recommend 6.12 because of the player model bug) because of Minecraft 1.1, please realize that you DO need older versions of the requirement mods as well.
I am relying on vanilla Minecraft's block friction values here.
Would it be possible to add some sort of exponent setting to go along with the existing base multiplier? Minecraft's friction is geared towards how fast a sentient being can stop or accelerate on the surface, rather than any particular quality of the surface in terms of coefficient of friction, so the rates at which you can slide are pretty non-physical when they're appropriated in that sense.
You do know you can just switch hunger off via the options file, don't you?
Well aware, but if it is enabled at all, eventually it comes to a point where you can't move anywhere except over flat ground, stairs, or ramps made out of slabs, assuming you're using exhaustion for all the others. It's definitely a bug; either play with hunger and eventually get broken when you start starving if you don't have food available, or play without hunger and miss out on a huge amount of game balance by not being charged for the amount of energy you use. I have yet to try setting the allowable minimum stamina for jumping higher than the maximum possible level of exhaustion so that you would always be able to jump (to mimic vanilla behaviour) even if unable to technically spend that exhaustion, but that touches into the original issue I posited of wanting to simulate real life aerobic survival versus anaerobic survival.
I could do the same for climbing, but then not only could you climb over 1-tile-height (real life "scrambling", basically) but also 2-tile height, at least as far as I understand the file without any documentation. Given that "scrambling" uses a different animation than "pulling from the shoulder", is there a way to independently control these?
I ultimately found the options I was looking for not long after making that post were "move.exhaustion.gain.factor" and "move.exhaustion.loss.factor", but seriously, the documentation assumes things like "factor" and "gain" and "loss" are understood without having had a chance to look at the source code or fully grok the inner workings of the mod. While documentation is like sex (where having some is better than having none at all), it needs to be good (and then it's really good).
I have deciphered the following definitions:
Exhaustion causes depletion of the stamina meter, representing short term intense physical exertion (anaerobic). By default, exhaustion is recovered by converting to hunger, treating hunger as moderate term cardiovascular exertion (aerobic), but which can only be recovered by food. If hunger is too high, exhaustion will no longer recover, disabling certain features depending on difficulty setting -- when using the strictest settings, this will prevent nearly all movement except simple walking, preventing even short hops up 1-tile blocks without the use of stairs or ramps.
Even if exhaustion recovers faster than it is depleted (such as from walking), the recovery is being converted into hunger and with the notable exception of walking, which never causes exhaustion, it will eventually be impossible to perform that action unless the exhaustion is explicitly disabled for that action by setting "move.exhaustion.XYZ" to "false".
A "factor" is the rate at which exhaustion is accumulated or lost, expressed as a floating point multiplier (where 1.0 is 100%, 1.1 is 110%, 0.25 is 25%, etc.), unless specifically noted otherwise. This comes in two forms: a "gain" is an accumulation of exhaustion, as in a loss of energy (undesirable), and a "loss" is a depletion of exhaustion, as in a recovery of energy (desirable).
The "base factor" can be interpreted as a global multiplier to the rate of all exhaustion accumulation and depletion. For instance, if "move.exhaustion.gain.factor" is set to 0.1, then exhaustion is gained 10 times more slowly than normal, and if "move.exhaustion.loss.factor" is set to 0.05, then exhaustion is recovered from 20 times more slowly than normal.
If you want an act to cause exhaustion (and thereby ultimately be forced to stop that activity due to running out of energy), then "move.exhaustion.XYZ.gain.factor" multiplied by "move.exhaustion.gain.factor" must equal or exceed "move.exhaustion.loss.factor" or else you will never become exhausted as a result of that activity. If you want to slow down the rate gain of exhaustion and slow down the recovery therefrom, you should decrease both "move.exhaustion.gain.factor" and "move.exhaustion.loss.factor".
To disable hunger but keep the short term anaerobic features, simply set "move.exhaustion.hunger" to false. To have hunger over time without hunger caused by exhaustion, set "move.exhaustion.hunger.factor" to 0 instead, and then set "move.hunger.always.gain" to the desired rate (where 1 Minecraft tick is 1/20th of a second).
Now I'm starting to think I need to program a calculator to let people plug in real-world values (e.g., able to run for 60 seconds or sprint for 10 seconds) and spit out a configuration file.
I tried to install Smart Moving for ModloaderMP Client and Smart Moving for Modloader and the two seem incompatible. I install one of them and it works fine. I install them both and I get this:

Not sure if anyone else has had this before. Anyone mind helping out with this?
This part
mod_SmartMovingMp 7.0.1
mod_SmartMoving 7.0.1
does kind of look like you installed two packages, which i hope you didn't. People also have been reporting TooManyItems currently not working with SmartMoving.
Also, you could check one of my install packs and see if that works (Both are tested working on a clean jar on my PC).
Server type is the .Jar type.
the only mods on the server were Animal Bikes, SmartMoving Server for ModloaderMP, ModloaderMP and PlayerAPI.
That's about all of it. Not sure if there was anything else. If needs be, I' can easily set up a new server from scratch and see if I get the same problem.
That might end up having to happen, sometimes these real screwy errors come up out of nowhere, and usually a re-install fixes it.
So let's make sure I'm getting this right; Out of all those mods you have on your server, the only one that makes it act like this is Smart Moving?
Please read FAQ #1 and #2, then get back to us so we can help you.
That's the infamous ModloaderMP error people have been getting recently.
All we can do is wait until Divisor addresses this issue; for now, use the Modloader package.
