Are you tired of your blocks with IDs 240 and 207 looking like this (when you have IndustrialCraft installed)
and want them to be smaller. Sort-of like this?
If so, then this is the mod for you.
Installation
Backup your minecraft.jar
Install a mod that adds blocks using IDs 240 and 207 (May I suggest IndustrialCraft)
Notes
There may be lighting problems. Just place a block nearby and they should be fixed.
These cables may render badly in multiplayer.
It may not work. In that case, I take no responsibility for any problems. I did tell you to make backups.
* "Better" is subjective
Mh, i hope you're aware you could/will/would get banned for ignoring IC's copyright? Exspecially the part about "You may modify any or all of the content, but are NOT allowed to public any of it." in the copyright?
Actually this mod probably is useful and DOES somewhat make sense. Thus i will refrain from closing it.
But still, you should really read copyrights, it's not something to be taken lightly. Let's say a 3-day ban, which is, compared to the casual 2+ weeks, quite low. Probably you can use the time to look at the copyrights of IC more closely.
I'm still thinking how to act further.
I could probably implement your code into the main mod... or not. Dunno...
Well unless you actually registered the copyright that statement at the bottom of your thread is invalid for any sort of claim (specially legally).
Not to mention it says public, not publish.
But implementing the code in your own would be stealing in itself would it not, since you would have to get his permission to use such?
I don't see what's wrong with modmods, and I don't see people hating on texture pack modifications, like the IC packs for Soartex.
But hey, I've already grabbed the modmod (which is great, by the way), so I don't really care.
It's a principal, you don't just go editing someone hard work and then publishing it without asking permission, its ethically wrong. Whether you have good intentions in mind or malicious its just courtesy to ask.
Regarding copyright, you do not need to register IP(Intellectual Property) and code is counted as IP so if it does go into something legal you can prosecute based on the fact he modified and then posted his own version of someone elses IP (which is clearly infringed upon).
Also @silvadreams the term is public, meaning to make avaliable to the public, publish means to formally release and this isnt a published modmod, but a public modmod.
EDIT:
Most importantly it is about not obeying the forum rules let alone the copyright in the post. It is a clear forum rule that you are not allowed to post anything modifying another modders code without express permission. Copyright or no copyright.

Sorta like modding minecraft? Don't get me wrong, I use mods, but its sorta weird that your worried about someone publishing a mod to a mod when the first person modded mojang's original hard work.

Please please please please please. The huge blocks o cables drives me bonkers.
Great mod otherwise. :biggrin.gif:
OMG. This mod read my mind. Personally I would prefer if it was all just a rectangle, not the weird module design of this, but regardless, this is awesome. Does the cable obscurator still work?
This is pretty much the same argument that happened when MCNostalgia first came out. Except this time Alblaka's right, and for MCN, the trolls weren't.
It says, right at the end of IC's OP,
You may modify any or all of the content, but are NOT allowed to public any of it.
BUUUUT, Alblaka then says
Any of the limitations above can be nullified by an explicite permission of the author.
and, if you were to remove the typo so it says explicit instead, if you'd ran to Alblaka, and said,
I went through your code and tweaked the cables so now they render sort of like fenceposts but with a bulb in the middle for le connector, and I think it's really cool and other people will like it, I can has an "explicite permission" to post it to forum so people who want it can tack it on to their IC, HAYO!!!!!!!!!!!
Nobody would be yelling at you for creating an epictastic mod but then going and screwing up the PR and release bit of it. Personally, I think it's a great idea, but you did kind of screw yourself over by not having an Alblaka-approved stamp on it...
Don't implement this. I'm pretty sure the cables are supposed to run in the ground and be pretty much invisible anyway thanks to the cable-change-texture-machine. And when they're not supposed to I guess you could use this? You could probably just make the cable obscurator change the texture into this.
Being Minecraft itself is a open source/allows mods. Therefore All MODS ARE ALLOWED TO BE MODED. Even if u posted a "License" on the bottom of your post. People would still be allowed to make your mods bettwe with there own mods.
If not, then well you guys would not be allowed to mod minecraft either.
Read up on licensing, Because minecraft is Quote on quote open source, Your mods need to be as well.

It is a clear rule that you are not allowed to make anything modifying another developer's code without their express permission, because Minecraft is copyrighted.
Oh look, EVERY SINGLE MOD ON THE WHOLE FORUM just broke that rule. It's illegal, because they modify copywritten code and I seriously doubt Notch went and approved them all. Amirite, Alblaka?
So, yes, Alblaka is allowed to shut down this chap for posting a mod to Alblaka's code in violation of the copyright stuff written at the end of his OP, but the rest of you should really shut up about OP breaking copyright. We're all criminals for playing IndustrialCraft; punishing one of our own for illegally modifying something that is already an illegal modification seems kind of stupid. Just saying.
There's my two (highly illegal, did I mention?) Industrial Credits

Step 1: Open Minecraft.
Step 2: Log in.
Step 3: Look at the bottom of the screen, right where it says "Copyright Mojang AB. Do not distribute.
Yeah, that definitely appears on open-source code.
Minecraft isn't open source. Minecraft is unencrypted source. Modders open up Minecraft code and write their own code to work with it all the time, and occasionally Notch legitimizes this by applying (illegally written) code in Minecraft, like what he's doing with pistons. Alblaka's in the same situation here, where he might take (doubly illegally written) code from OP and put it in (illegal) Industrial Craft.
In Summary: IC is illegal. Better Cables is an illegal modificaiton of an illegal code. Everybody take a step back, a couple deep breaths, and please dear God drop it. Watching all you goody-two-shoes yammer about Alblaka's right as copyholder of IC to banhammer IC modders is so full of hypocrisy its spilling out and getting on my shoes. Yes, Alblaka is well within his rights as publisher of IC to banhammer people who mod his work, and he's choosing to here. But try to remember the bigger hammer o' doom hovering over our heads that Notch is kindly deciding not to drop. Mmmmkay? Mkay. I'm done now.
If the OP were distributing IC itself, then I would agree that he's in the wrong. That would be like distributing the minecraft.jar file. However, since IC needs to be installed first, it's completely ridiculous and hypocritical to punish him for publishing this. If your mod includes modified base class files, you're publishing tons of Notch's code, but that's okay to you and this isn't?
and want them to be smaller. Sort-of like this?

One bug so far: the cables do not connect to Geothermal Generators:
There may be more bugs, but I'd have to test it with every single machine block then.
other than that Nice!

Either way I like the idea tmim2, looks good.
