hmmm... I think I'll implement full customization of ore generation, though I'm debating whether to include ore-biomes customization. The reason for this is that if I allow full mix and match capability with it, it will add roughly 49 more file checks and writes to the process, and this could greatly hinder the fine tuned, on the fly, map generation. a.k.a. it could make the game lag HORRIBLY. though I'm not entirely sure.
I think I might put in an on/off check on the whole part, so if you want the defaults you can have it the custom part off, and if you want to customize it - and think your comp can handle it - you can turn it on. though this all will double the amount of coding I have to do.
hmmm....
I'll let the polls decide :wink.gif:
edit: the polls have now been updated to reflect the current questions I have and need.
IMO it would be better if ores generated like vanilla but less often ( except for diamond and lapis) but then these massive veins would still be there but much rarer as well. That way finding an iron jackpot still makes you feel like you won the lottery. So to clarify I think that normally ores should generate like vanilla but less of the actual ore in each chunk. The veins that this mod adds would be rare to spawn in a chunk but would replace all of the other "vanilla" generated ores.

If you want it, then soon you've got it.
I'm working on setting up full customization of the ores :wink.gif:
and for the reason I came to the forums
here is some work in progress code of the new props file:
I think with all that options, a program to create/edit the properties file would be nice. I thought of a easy to use program with some standard configurations for people who don't know a thing about ore distribution and full support for customization. Sounds a bit utopic^^ ..yeah..
But nice you did the customization marco. this changes the whole mod. Makes it different from other ore distribution mods, which i like :wink.gif:
I have 1.4 working, but I haven't implemented custom ore-biome support. I think I will make that 1.5
the reason for this is as follows
- twice as much coding
- it will be taxing on the on-the-fly terrain generation
- I have not decided on a design for changing which variables go with what biomes, and how to edit the probabilities
- that and I'm lazy/busy (a friend of mine is getting married, and I've been working on signing up for next year's classes)
in conclusion|| I will get to it later most likely :wink.gif:
This is awesome, i used this mod before, but now since u can custimise it, its a ton better.
Plus, this is like making your own mod, so, if u can make it that way u can add new items, ores and blocks that would be the best mod in the world!
everyone would use it, its like modloader but editing with texts, it could completely change modding, more mods, more fun, and all can be done with simple texts.

that's a good idea, but making new items and such is a bit more complicated. in this mod numbers are the only thing changing, you would hit problems adding new stuff, for one the textures for a new item.
and if you think the mod is wonderful, please tell your friends :wink.gif:
edit: looking at what you were asking, blocks get their properties from functions that are predefined, and I have no idea how to make that part editable, because I don't know how you could change a function as they can't be stored or referenced by a variable.
though I could maybe include all the properties for each block, have changeable values for them, and have on/off switches for each properties, hmmm...
game speed would be a concern if it had to make so many checks though, properties files aren't as fast as source code
even still it sounds very complicated, and I only learned like java a month ago :wink.gif:
Oh yeah, One thing : I checked your property file, you know you could have simply added # in front of the comment lines instead of =0 to ignore them right? :tongue.gif:

wasn't sure if they were ever causing a problem, was dealing with some Boolean problems, thought those might have been the issue so I added the =0 and never took them out, in the end it was something else. but it's nice to know that I can use #, thank you. my java experience consists of a week of reading and this mod, so I'm doing well so far :biggrin.gif:
oh wow just realized that plants and more, PhoenixTerrainMod and better ore distrubution mod all modified the pc.class file.... :sad.gif:
yea, modloader has some holes in regard to generation customization, so these mods have to.
I have received no word in terms of me working with the production of the PhoenixTerrainMod, though I sent a PM and asked for this mod to be incorporated.

hmmm...
aside from my defaults, the phoenix terrain mod allows you to change ore generation in the same way.
rarity
number of veins
size of veins
and height
I did not know this... :mellow.gif:
that might explain the lack of a reply.
To Update, just Install and Overwrite everything there, and it shouldn't cause a problem with old save's that used old versions, correct? Will it then also update the Property's file (or do I even need it? I just keep it at default).
Next, with the IC Version, what level is Copper found on? It's a pain to find.

just install over everything there, but you will need to delete or remove the mpbog.txt to get the new one with more stuff.
as for copper, the same as redstone I believe, 48, or 32, something like that.
look in caves, it's the fastest, non-cheating, method of finding ores.

Ok, Thanks.
As for the Cave's, I found exactly what you meant lol. I hot a few Stack's of Diamond by looking in one, TONS, TONS (Almost a Chest Full) of Lapiz, and a TON of redstone, I just can't find copper which is needed for most (if not all) IC stuff. :/

I can't find gold ether. :/
sometimes you can just get unlucky, and not find a particular ore close by :/

Ya, I will keep digging out, as I usually run into many caves while doing it, I found most of my stuff this way. I like keeping everything connected to my main Base, as if I die it's fairly easy to get back to it. It's working pretty well this way, just need to find Gold now and I will be set.

time for an episode of Chuck, a good nights sleep, and I can begin troubleshooting/testing tomorrow. anyone?
