Greetings fellow survivors. Ever found that after digging your deep immense wells for item collection that the mobs you try to lead into those holes just wont fall down? Well look no further, with these Sapling Traps, you can put your inner boy scout to good use with this simple block. This block tricks the mobs into thinking that there is ground underneath their feet, until they fall to their watery/fiery/cactus..y death.
Crafting them is very simple, all you need to do is take five sticks, and four saplings (any saplings will do), dirt blocks, seeds, stone blocks, cobblestone blocks, mossy cobblestone blocks, wooden planks, or sandstone into the crafting block, and viola, you have eight blocks of trappy goodness. These traps will disappear the moment a mob steps on them (excluding chickens, which are too light). As of version 1.1, traps can now be activated by redstone!
(Any saplings can be used, also the recipe that uses seeds is a grass block, but I cannot make the game force a colour for it, so for now it remains grey.)
Using them is very simple, just dig your hole, trap to taste, then lay these blocks over the top of your hole, and you have a fully qualified Sapling Trap.
(I'm using the lava flavor of traps.)
(And the Trap is set.)
"But Kyle!" I hear you cry, "What if we want chickens to fall through our traps for egg collection?"
Well, it's very easy, all you need to do is make a 4x4 block of sticks and saplings/dirt/seeds/stone/cobblestone/mossy cobblestone/wood planks/sandstone to create a Thin Sapling Trap. These function just like the normal traps, except they're thinner and will allow for chickens to fall through.
(Again, any saplings can be used in any order. Also the placement of the sticks can be reversed)
1. Ensure you have ModLoader installed.
2. Extract the files from SaplingTrap[version].rar.
3. Open Minecraft.jar (located in %appdata%/.minecraft/bin) with WinRar or your chosen file extractor.
4. Drag and drop the classes files and the terrain folder into Minecraft.jar.
5. Ensure that the META-INF folder is deleted in the Minecraft Jar file.
6. Enjoy.
With MyCraft installed:
1. Ensure MyCraft is installed correctly.
2. Create a new folder in your mods folder, for example "SaplingTrap"
3. Extract the files from SaplingTrap[version].rar into your new folder.
4. Enjoy.
Incompatibilities:
Since the crafting recipe has been changed, there is no currently know incompatibilities.
Known Bugs:
Sometimes all but a few trap blocks disappear, this is more common in the larger trap clusters.
Changelog:
Version 1.0:
- Release
Version 1.0.1
- Changed the code to ensure that stepping on one of the traps will remove multiple traps.
Version 1.1
- Added Different Flavours of traps and thin traps, specifically:
-- Dirt
-- Grass
--Stone
-- Cobblestone
-- Mossy Cobblestone
--Wooden Planks
-- Sandstone
- Traps can now be set off when powered by levers, redstone torches, buttons, etc.
- Range of disappeared traps increased to 32 blocks.
Version 1.1.1
- Fixed a bug where traps of different types would not disappear if the block next to them was stepped on, but was not the same type of trap.
- Decreased the tick rate to 1.
Haha, seems I haven't quite figured out Dropbox. I'll get right onto it.
Also I have found a bug and an unexpected feature, the bug being that Animals that are 2 blocks long (cows, sheep, etc) wont fall through unless the walk on two of the tiles. So I'm looking into a way of getting rid of all the connected blocks when one of them is stepped on (like a real trap of this nature), and the unexpected feature being that if you hold shift, you can walk on the trap without setting it off.
I plan to have it eventually, yes, but I'm very new to the Minecraft modding scene, so I need to do some more research into MP Modding before I can get it done.
