I have another bug. The mod works fine, and I played up until level 2 when you see the miner, and I can call him and everything fine, but when i press "H" it brings up a minecraft loading screen that says "saving chunks" then exits minecraft for me. I'm not sure what the problem is but is this happening to anyone else.
If not it is maybe not completely compatible with one of my mods?

QuestGive should be compatible with all mods. The only thing I can think of, is that one of your other mods is trying to use the "H" key to open a gui at the same time I am. Not sure there is any way to get around this. I guess I could allow for this key to be changed from the config file, though I am not sure how I would implement that at the moment.
If you have spare time, and want to help narrow it down, simply remove your mods, add modloader, audiomod, QuestGive, and then one of your other mods, then test the H key, you can continue to add your other mods one at a time and test, until it crashes. then you will know which it is, and can post the conflicting mod up here.
I am currently still working on Quest Tracking. it's being a little tricky, so it's taking me a bit of time to get it finished. Have no fear, I will have it working soon and will post up a 1.6.6 update with proper quest tracking, plus new goodies I won't mention just yet.
I would post a comment about people not reading the thread before posting. but then... they would never see it now would they? Silly people asking questions that are answered by the post just before theirs. XD I won't bother replying to those people. To the rest of you, more coming soon, have fun!
This is just brilliant, not only it gives Minecraft an RPG feel but now it does have sense to go out at night and kill whatever you can! Just tried it out and made some quests (altough it bugged a while ago, I think there may be a collision with Friend Mod, I was trying to summon the miner when I finished the Cow's quest).
Another important thing is (as another guy already said XD) that sometimes I just don't know what to do, and this mod pretty much resolves the problem, so Thanks Ayame!
--Ideas--
-I think you already tought of that but how about stronger versions of the old monsters?
-Maybe there should be something like a "strenght stat", at lvl 1 even if you equip an iron sword, you're pretty weak, at lvl 4 you're like the average Steve and then go up... You get the idea.
-Bandits
-Skeletons with swords
Not sure what monsters should I suggest since they may already be in an another mod, like werevolves or other things.
--Improbable Ideas--
-How about Miners and Fighters sell you mining equipment, minerals and combat equipment, the higher the lvl the lesser the price.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ('-')b can't wait to see this continue
EDIT: Maybe you should add a dungeon generator with the mod xD but that seems pretty obvious too I guess
Feedback is very much appreciated. I do have plans for adding more Monsters, Creatures, and more NPC. I am already planning generated dungeons yes.
I do not want to get into a monetary system with buying and selling things, I think there is enough potential for doing quests and receiving items as rewards, that there is no need to add "buying" stuff. Not to mention, every implementation of buying and selling I have seen so far, has been fairly useless. Generally speaking, the items that were sold were not worth the work needed to acquire the coins to buy them. If players are going to have to work to get something, it might as well be quest related and receive the item as a reward.
As for stats, I am still debating this. It would not be too difficult to do, but may prove hard to make compatible with other mods. One step at a time. I finally got Quest Tracking working, though I have a bit of tweaking to do to it still. Will try to finish it up, as well as a few extra bits, then see if I can get it updated later today.
For now, if you have not tried QuestGive, then have a look at the video I am adding to the OP. MechaBoy was kind enough to make a video review that gives you an idea of how it looks and plays. (Ignore the cheating O.o) It's quite funny too!
QuestGive: Moving Right Along
After a lot of work, I finished the quest tracking system, which will resolve the issue with repeating quests. It will now randomize the order in which you are given quests, unless the quest you are on is a "chain quest" which links through multiple quests. When you have completed all quests for your current level, a new set of quests will become available and the previous level quests will no longer be given. If you are currently on a quest when you level, it will allow you to finish the quest you are on before it updates the quest level and loads the new set of quests.
This was a bit tough for me as I am new to java and modding minecraft, and it meant a lot of tracking things and manipulating data. Now all that is left for me to do before I post the update is get new quests created.
Open Call for Quest Ideas!
This is your chance to submit ideas you would like to see put into action as quests. There are a few points I would like to make clear before you submit your ideas.
Quests can currently be one of two types. Bounty Quest: Requires killing a certain number of a certain creature or monster. Gathering Quest: Requires gathering resources and returning them to the Quest Giver.
Note #1: I am still working on adding "Errand" quests and "Escort" quests, which would be quests such as, "Deliver this to Major Tom who has a camp north of here" or "Becky Sue went exploring to the south and has not been seen, please go finder her and escort her back to me." You are still encouraged to submit ideas such as these as I do plan to add these types of quests in the future and they can be worked into the story line now.
Note #2: I am also working to add the ability for the quest giver to give an item in return for a quest completion. This may or may not make it into the coming update, as creating quests is going to be time consuming. It's easier to come up with ideas, than it is to sort them all into a plausible story line and implement them. It's not a difficult addition so odds are it will be in the next update. No promises. :smile.gif:
Quests should stay within theme.
What this means is minecraft is based in the wilderness with Swords and Armor. Though it does include more modern aspects such as levels and redstone "wire", there is a reason for that "wire" being made up of dust. Because Minecraft is a medieval world where there are no modern inventions. This means, no guns, no spaceships. nothing crazy like that. Please keep the quest ideas in the theme of Dungeons and Dragons.
Please describe your quests in detail.
I can sit and write stuff like, "bring back a stick" "bring back a dirt block" "kill a chicken" all day long (As you have seen from the few quests included in the alpha, which were only there for testing.) what I am asking for is a bit of creativity. Think of a reason for why the player is being asked to do something, what they should do, and what you think they should get in return. And don't forget about chain quests. if an idea deals with too many items, or monsters, it can be broken into separate quests that are linked together.
So please post your quest ideas here and I will try to use as many as I can. Some may not be used, some may be altered from the original idea to fit the story line and theme. But I will try to work as many as possible in.
The following is a list of quest ideas sent to me by Diogovsky25 (Thank you Dio.)
- Powder Idea (give a quest giver 1 gunpowder, 1 redstone and 1 glowstone dust)
- Bucket Expert (gather a lava, water and milk bucket)
- Mushroom eater (deliver a mushroom stew for a quest giver)
- Shiny (give a quest giver a gold block - you can receive 3 diamonds and exp as reward)
- Don't mess up with fire! (get on fire and survive)
- Poor pig! (burn a pig and deliver the cooked porkchops)
- Guns'n roses (give a bow and a rose for a quest giver :wink.gif:)
- Charcoal isn't coal (give charcoal and coal for the quest giver)
- Super Fuel (deliver 2 buckets of lava for the quest giver)
- Don't eat my cake!!! (kill a creeper who stole the poor giver's cake)
- Need Glasses (give 5 glass blocks)
- What is this sludge on my cobblestone?! (give 5 mossy cobblestone for the giver)
- I'm not hungry anymore (give a bread, cake and a cooked porkchop for the giver).
- I'm afraid of dark!(give feather, string, gunpowder and bones for the giver).
4. Golden magic: get the magic gold idol, very rarely found sitting on the ground.
5. Creeper reaper: kill 15 creepers
6. Bloody zombies: kill the zombie that stole (guys name) golden block (1/25 chance of dropping)
7. A wonderful present: get a diamond for (guys names) daughter
8. Yeti rage: the yetis have gone mad! kill 5 of them! (yetis are crazy white furry humanoid looking things that are 3 blocks tall
9. Marathon man: run a huge distance of 5,000 blocks
10. The spirits are rising: kill 4 ghasts
11. Goblins!: kill 30 goblins of any type (goblins are short little green people, 1.5 blocks tall, there are 4 types, Thief, Warrior, Wizard and Chieftains. Warrior is strong and are dumb, Thieves are quick and have a different attacking style, they try to run around you. Wizards stay back and use their magic bolt to shoot you. and Chieftains are built like tanks and charge at you, all goblins are not aggressive but neutral. goblins have fortresses that they stay around, the forts are made out of wood and are pretty big.
i hope you like my ideas, i would really like it if you did the goblin one, that would be awesome
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I made this map! Please check it out! It's a really awesome map that took me over a year to make! :3
i would like to suggest some quest idea :smile.gif:
1. Slay the beast: go to the nether, and kill a dragon... bring me back his claw or scale to prove you did( the dragon being a new monster spawning in the nether, and is pretty hard to kill, and can only be killed by the rare item found in the sky world.)Reward: a new item that is only achievable through the quest system, and can only be obtained once.
2. Better safe then sorry: Give the quest give a full set of diamond armor so he can be protected encase more ninjas try to steal more donuts.
3. A trip to the underworld: Bring the quest giver to the nether, this could be the prequel to Slay the beast.
If you like my ideas there's a lot more just let me know :smile.gif:. Btw loving this mod
QuestGive is a mod to add Quests and RPG elements to minecraft. QuestGive adds quest givers to the world which will task you with various chores. In return you will gain valuable materials, items, weapons, experience (See RPG below), and hopefully a lot of fun!
RPG!
QuestGive adds the ability to gain experience from killing monsters in the world. Killing creatures and monsters, or completing quests, grants experience points to the player and includes level gains. The monsters that QuestGive adds also have levels that will not be readily denoted. Each type of QuestGive mob will have a different texture that it will use depending on it's level.
Quest Givers:
The Quest Givers will belong to one of two "factions", though currently there is only the Miners Union.
One faction will be The Dungeon Masters Guild. Something a bit more dungeon related as there are plans for generating dungeons, and/or populating existing dungeons on-demand when a quest requires it. This faction will assign more monster killing quests than any other type of quest.
The second faction will be The Miners Union. These guys will have you retrieving rare minerals, or other materials they may need. Having you run errands, and at times sending you to kill off monsters that may be giving them trouble, but will be less about monster killing and more about mining.
And as mentioned before, both of these Quest Giver factions will give rewards and experience. Experience gains are shown on the screen in chat text each time a creature or monster dies or a quest is completed. Leveling information including current level, current experience and experience needed for the next level is displayed at the top of the screen.
This is the Alpha release, and as such it is a little light on content but it will have a lot more. I am getting the core structure of the mod working first, then I will add in more monsters, boss fights, quests, items, and abilities.
REQUIREMENTS!
QuestGive requires Minecraft 1.6.5 and the 1.6.5 compatible AudioMod & Modloader by Risugami.
Once you are sure you have modloader and audiomod installed, simply unpack the zip file into your .minecraft folder, allowing it to merge with your existing folders. Or follow the directories in the zip to see where the files/folders belong.
QuestGive does not require any files of it's own inside of the minecraft.jar. You only need to place the "mods/QuestGive.zip" package and "mods/QuestGiveData" folder into your .mincraft/mods folder. Then copy the set of folders in "resources/mod/sound/" into your .minecraft/resources/mod/sound/ folder. IMPORTANT NOTICE!
Once installed, and you are up and running, the first Quest Giver will appear when you reach Level 2! If you loose the Quest Giver, or get lost, pressing "G" will call the Quest Giver. Pressing "H" while on a quest will show you the Quest description. So get busy slapping those cows around! All Creatures/Monsters give Experience Gains.
That's it! I hope you enjoy and please post bugs/feedback/ideas!
I think that's about it. here are a few images I put together.
QuestGive - The Quest Begins (even plays intro music)
A friendly ninja looks inquisitively
Ninja back - Custom shorter biped model with backpack
Two angry ninja attacking!
Level Up!
Checking Status
That's it for now. I am working on new monsters and will post more as I make progress. :biggrin.gif:
Please post any ideas, concerns, requests, you may have. Thanks!
1. A chain Quest in which you have to find a special bow that has been created by the gods and is only found in the middle of a temple that spawns only once in the world. this bow has double the range and triple the damage. This temple is filled with treasure, traps and monsters. One of the creatures in there would be a theif which would try to steal this special bow. After you have collected the bow the Quest Giver will give you a new Quest to slay a witch and rescue the kings daughter. If you save her the kings kingdom will spawn in a newly generated chunk. Then the king will give you quests as well.
2. A quest were you have to locate a safe area and build a house for the quest giver with the minium requirments of: It has to have two levels, at least one bed, a workbench, a double chest and a furnace.
You should make this so that it can work with Mine and Magic and if you have it installed along with this mod you can get extra quests or something like that
Perhaps you should make a class system for leveling up. And if you do end up adding magic, you need look no further than D&D (The biggest resource of magical spells in the world...in my opinion) BTW I've tested it and it is AWESOME
1.7 NOW please i really don't want to see this die, D&D is one, IS THE BEST TABLETOP RPG game ever and seeing my to favorite games mixed together *cums* don't let this die!
Due to the new forum layout I am forced to leave a Link to my about me page so you can my mods/texture packs I support along with my Dragons, Just click on the image
