About your Shaped Charge mod, dropped items ARE destroyed if there happens to be a flowing lava tile underneath and/or on the sides. Perhaps you can limit the blast to a user defined amount of blocks in a GUI for the Charge or in a setting file.

Life is a Learning Curve.... Unfortunately, you're stuck on the bottom...amongst the bones of the stupid.
Sorry if I came off as rude, had just woken up and was trying to just point out that was not what I had asked.
You should of phrased your question differently. You asked for a comparison, and I gave you one. What you actually meant was the efficiency of chunk loading, and I think only Robinton can answer that to your satisfaction.
@daedroug: CC loading code is based off of Vanilla, so it's probably about the same. If you know any improvements, please tell me. I'd be glad to include them.
@MineCrak: Oh, great. I'm finally starting to get my mods updated, and...
@Furious1964: Not a bad idea. Or I might release an EvenMoreUnbalancedShapedCharges mod, that freezes lava around the blast, and drops cobble or Obsidian if the blast actually hits lava...
Meanwhile:
Caves at Y<0. :biggrin.gif: Only problem: they generate lots of lag. I'll try generating a bunch of ChunkCubes at a time. That should fix the lag...
Oh my, looks like both notch & jeb have said that they are hoping to put out another minecraft release tomorrow. Not many more details than that though.
The most recent screenshot notch posted before saying that did show 1.9 on the screen, that isn't proof that tomorrow is about 1.9, but it's still interesting. btw: That's a Snow-Golem.
@jeb_ Jens Bergensten - Heh no, no screenshots since you'll be able to see them yourself tomorrow (knock on wood)
@notch Markus Persson - Fixed a few annoying lighting bugs, like fences under walls and such. We're hoping (HOPING!) to release something tomorrow.
@notch Markus Persson - If we don't feel comfortable doing a proper release, we'll do another "leak".
** notches last statement doesn't sound like something you would say about a point release like 1.8.2, though that part could just be him trolling and not really mean anything. :wink.gif:
@daedroug: Yeah, I agree, your being a bit of a jerk. You ask one, tiny and vague question (that sounded to me like, what does CC do or how does it work). A question that you could have answered for yourself by downloading and trying the mod. Then when you get TWO very nice responses you "congratulate" them for misunderstanding you vague ONE SENTENCE question. Even if you weren't trying, you were rude.
As for your question, perhaps you could explain why it is that Vanilla chunk loading 'sucks'? Or you could post a link to somewhere that is being discussed? BTW, it would be nice if you could explain more than just "It is slow." or "It's inefficient".... If you did just mean, "It's slow" then I would say that this mod 'might' speed it up due to the Lag Spike Of Death fix but that would only be the case if you were generating Vanilla sized levels, if you made 15000 block high levels, it would likely load and run slower.
@Robinton: Hi! I've been looking at the new 1.8 code. Nice new biome changes, new 'genWhatever' feature and a few changes to the genTerrain functions. Might mean awhile before the new version, eh?
So I FINALLY found the code that sets how far the world per-generates when you make a new world! It's in the minecraft.java class in the 'preloadWorld(String s)' function. I changed char c = '\200'; into int c = 1024; and it took forever to load then crashed for lack of ram. ;p Anyway, thought I'd mention it as it could be useful.
I've already apologized for having in inadvertently come off as rude in a reply I wrote after having just woken up there is no need to continuously harp on about it.

While I know Optifine does many other things to make Minecraft run more smoothly and easily the main thing that I use it for is the fix to chunk loading. I would suggest taking a look at that or talking to them about at least including the chunk loading fix

I've been thinking about making a patch for optifine compatibility for CC.. and that video really perks my interest in doing so. Too bad there's no source code available..? But he does have a great writeup on what the mod does on his blog. http://optifog.blogspot.com/
I really hope we can get that kind of chunk loading speed in CC as waiting for entire mountains to update tends to be quite tedious.
I've said before that the largest thing stopping me from using this mod is that without Optifine, Minecraft is a pain to play.... Playable, yes, but not fun. Any merging between these two mods would be truly wonderful. Has anyone talked with the Optifine author about this? If Optifine support could be added, somehow, that'd make this mod the must have mod of Minecraft. I've been wanting to use it for awhile now.... Mouser X over and out.

Honestly, there's no reason for notch not to look at Optifine and say "okay, putting this into the game now!" I mean, why wouldn't you want more fps with no drawbacks?
The way you feel about Optifine is unfortunately how I feel about Cubic Chunks... I can't go back to playing without it.
Though Combining optifine and CC might be good i think it might require a more targeted and specified optimization if you can manage to get the optifine author to lend a hand.
Does Cubic Chunks attempt to load entire vertical columns like Vanilla, or does it load them based on distance in a similar way to how horizontal chunks work?
Does Cubic Chunks give priority to "visible" chunks when you are on the surface?
Does Cubic chunks take note of the direction the player is moving and give priority to chunk generation in that direction?
If Optifine were added, and the long distance rendering that was recently found, it would improve the gameplay so much that I would pay another 10$ for this mod. You might consider adding a donation button. Can't wait for the SMP version to be released!

1. it has 16x16x16 block chunks that load vertically and horizontally.
2&3. for many people there has been an increase in frame rate when CC is running. as for specific answers, Robinton is a boss at some of this stuff and i'm pretty sure he has systems like that in place.
AFAIK :
The MC forge people are trying to implement optifine just incase that helps

it will obviously be CHOCOLATE ORE
used to make cocoa beans and CHOCOLATE CAKE and CHOCOLATE INGOTS
CHOCOLATE INGOTS will be used to make CHOCOLATE TOOLS which are obviously much stronger than diamond and also may be eaten if you are hungry.
@notch Markus Persson - We'll do a 1.9 pre-release today, and a full release after feedback. More Adventure Mode content will come in 1.10, we're splitting it up!
@notch Markus Persson - The reason we're releasing stuff so closely now is a push before the release in November! Server admins and modders, have patience. :wink.gif:

to WorldRenderer. It seems to be either slightly improving performance, or doing nothing at all.
@kinnikinnick: Yes, updating will take a while. And, I knew about the Minecraft.java call. I've had to make it smaller for CC. :wink.gif:
@daedroug: Thanks for the vid. I'd like to have some optimizing help.
@kinnikinnick: "Great writeup." No kidding!

@notch Markus Persson - Chunk saving happens more often than chunk loading. Threading the saving made the lag spikes every second go away.
#nice@notch Markus Persson - Threading the saving is also safe since it doesn't have to happen RIGHT NOW. Loading does.
