Hey guys! First let me thank everyone for their support of Assorted Wildlife, it made maintaining and updating the mod that much more enjoyable. I stopped playing Minecraft about a year ago and that's why the mod stopped receiving updates. But recently I've been thinking of getting back into Minecraft. There's no other game like it, imo.
Reading the posts and private messages eager for new updates and voicing ideas on how to improve the mod has me thinking of resurecting the mod. I had fun learning how to code and playing with the creations in the Minecraft world. But the best part was contributing to the Minecraft experience (in my small way) for everyone in the community. There is still alot I want to add to Assorted Wildlife. And if the demand is there, i may just have to start making the time to get into coding again.
So.... If you would like to see Assorted Wildlife back in action, drop me a line. And if you have friends or family that enjoyed the mod, pass on the info. It would be much appreciated. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. I looking forward to hearing from you. :-)

i would love a update. this was one of my all time favorite mods...
First off... Hi to Bockwurst. I hope you are well. Thanks to sirdave79 for the great info. Were you born in '79? And thanks to the other posters for the support.
I really miss working on Assorted Wildlife. When I first started, I had no clue how to code. But with the help of the many tutorials here on the forums, I was able to start work on an entity that Minecraft needed and no other modder had developed yet. FISHY was born. I was proud of my first mod, because as far as I knew, there were no other sea creature mods. He was unique and therefore I thought I had something to add to the community. But my ego got a 'hip check'. The day I released, another more well-known mod released an update with fish. But the show must go on, right? So I released LoafCat. A favor for the author of LoafCraft and her fans on the thread. The community showed a great amount of support for the tameable furry bundle of cuteness. With my ego on the mend, I started to work on Assorted Wildlife. With the help of Zekey, author of ZekoCraft, it really took off. One month I clocked almost 8K downloads. That was so much more than what I was expecting. With the help of some nice members of the Minecraft community, the mod grew and grew.
Months went by and I started to notice more modders releasing their own compilation of enities. Not including Mo', other more experienced coders tried their hand at mobs and were quickly becoming well-known. So started to slack off in regards to updating Assorted Wildlife. There was no need since the community had their mob hunger sated by these new 'mob-packs'.
With personal agro eating up my time and no apparent reason for updates, development slowed to a crawl. At this time there was big news out of Mojang about a Mod API that was in the works. So I stopped development in hopes of continuing with this new API. And eventually stopped playing MC.
I have not kept up on Minecraft news. But I thought I would at least hear about it. And with Forge and ModLoader still being used, its not looking good.
Did Mojang ever release a Mod API for the community?

no modapi yet. it might take a very long time. they say they are aiming towards it though.
Yea i was afraid of that. No modding API. Forge was just getting its legs when I stopped updating a year ago. And back then it was already gaining a huge following. Indeed it has a multitude of great things to offer the modding community. And its got the added bonus of being "Of the people, for the people".
So, I have begun the tedious task of updating Assorted Wildlife. For now I am just doing a compatibility check for the update, no new content. I will probably release it in ModLoader flavor at first. And a day or two later, come out with a Forge flavor. Depending on what life throws at me.
I have been thinking of doing away with the LoafCats that are included with Assorted Wildlife. Since vanilla already has cats, I dont see a need for LoafCats. What do you guys and gals think?
sirDave79 - Hello there. I was born in 78. I always find it nice to meet others from Generation X that apart of the Minecraft community.
Ok guys, be on the look out for an updated version of Assorted Wildlife in the next few days.
Alrighty. Don't you just love it when you want to get back into a game and your GTX 260 vid card is on the verge of being fried? Yea I thought you did; because I do too. So I am releasing the newest version of Assorted Wildlife. I would like to be able to load it into Minecraft and test it, but my vid card is throwing a tantrum and not playing well with others. No errors were thrown in MCP during recompile so that is a good sign. But I cant do my usual testing until I get a new card. So here is the mod for download. In all its untested glory. Please guys let me know if it poops on everthing.
I am going to wait to link the download in the opening post. Leaving it here for the 'Pre-release Testing' phase while I get a new card for the rig.
Quick question. I have added rare drops for the Canines. Anubis Dogs will have a netherwart rare drop and Infernal Hounds will have a Blaze Rod rare drop. What do you guys think the Anubis Dogs regular drop should be? Bone or Water bottles (potion)? Since I have lost touch with MC I need some input.
So without further delay. Here is ModLoader flavored Assorted Wildlife. Version 1.5.3. Low in calories with that same crunchy goodness.
(but can you please make a forge/smp version eventually? i really like playing minecraft with my freinds and forge is much better the modloader to most people. many modloader mods work with forge but no forge mods work wihth modloader. many mods use forge. i'm not saying right now or instead of a modloader version but in the future. please? because you've been gone awhiel i will infrom you that forge (and it's included bonus fml or forgemodloader) no longer works with modloader, it is a seperate mod and does not require modlaoder.)
anyway thank you so much. i'm in school at the moment but i might be able to test the mod this weekend. have a great day!

I have already started familiarizing myself with Forge. But my pace is snail-like. If anyone is interested in helping me update Assorted Wildlife code to Forge, let me know. Send me a private message. My people will call your people and we'll do lunch.
i don't know how to code. but if you need tutorials i have a good friend who does some really good forge tutorials. (all of the might not be ready for 1.5.2 but he has a ton)
Updating? To 1.5.2? This is awesome. I've always liked this mod. I wish I could help, but I don't know any code whatsoever... But if you need sounds, I can probably help with that! I'll just stick around the thread and watch the development in the meantime.

I have found some decent tutorials. But the more the better I always say. Throw me a linky of your friend if you dont mind. thx

First, thx for the support. And thx for the offer for sounds dev. Ill keep you in mind .
The Forge conversion is coming together. Slowly but surely. Ive always wanted to release an SMP version of Assorted Wildlife. Hopefully now I can.

PS- Just placed my order on Newegg for a new vid card. Going to give the new GTX 650 Ti BOOST a try.
the 1.5.1 tutorials should work with 1.5.2. not many mob tutorials for 1.5 yet though... but 1.4.7 mob tutorials should work with a few tiny changes and updates. (how to update a mod to 1.5.2 is included...)
edit: it brings me to a certian tutorial page when i click the link and i'm having trouble fixing that link. if you want to find the right page go to the start page (in the link on the top of the website) and click on the forge modding tutorials.
Just a quick dev update here. So, happy day!! I finally received my GTX 650 BOOST. Guess what, it rocks. So i am able to do testing and troubleshooting on my code. Wow so many wonderful things have been implemented in MC since i was away. And so many cleaver and polished mods have been released. Its a lot to take in. But oh so fun to re-discover.
Ok. I am in the process of rewriting Assorted Wildlife to MCForge. And hopefully when i am finished the mod will have SMP support. Dunno about Bukkit or MCPC+, still kind of researching and familiarizing. I have some ideas for new mobs, new features(loot), and new models. I would really like to update many of the models in Assorted Wildlife. After seeing what other authors are releasing, they need it.
Well, this has been a special announcement from your friendly neighborhood Kingpin. And a shameless BUMP.

WOOP. thanks for writing the codes to forge, i was getting frustrated trying to figure out why it wouldn't work. i personally like the models, they fit the texture pack ZekoCraft well. but i wanted to ask if you have an estimated TOA for the forge version?

Thanks for the support davidwellz. The Forge edition is almost ready to be released. I was debating on waiting for MC 1.6 to come out, but i still dont know. With all the emails and IMs from fans, I may release it in a few days. The new version is ready to go with the Forge conversion and SMP support. There are 2 render glitches that I have been working on. Soon. New Assorted Wildlife will be unleashed into the wild very, very soon. I am hoping within the next 7 days or sooner.
Thanks to everyone for the amazing support of this mod.
