It might be doable, but I would need to find a way to smoothly calculate skylight, since offset lookups from the light table might not actually work in this situation.
So, i saw its not working correctly with optifine so i made my own type of the OldLighting engine that is compatible with optifine.

Sorry for my bad english.
It does only one thing: removes colored light.
However, it does not remove smooth day/night transition.
Sure, it's easily done if I randomly felt like including another base class into the mix. Wouldn't have much point though, given that the Nether has a ceiling and therefore makes skies not really relevant.
Looks nice, I like the blue shading better than the current yellow-ish junk.
Can't get the mod to work though. When I try to create a world I get this error:
and Minecraft crashes. That is one of the files your mod replaces and I did make sure to test it on a clean JAR file.
Hmm, are you certain that you aren't deploying with any other mods that also use this class? (check your /mods/ folder maybe). That method doesn't exist in the vanilla alb class, but something's requesting it.
Currently the only reason why I edit this class is to make the lighting in the real world back to what it used to be, but I might just get rid of that and calculate light tables manually for all known dimensions.

Oops, I did have a couple mods in there but they only added a couple new blocks and didn't replace that class.
I noticed though that the class in question is also replaced by ModLoader.
However, I don't understand why it changes grass/foliage color.

Also one thing: ClassicLight supports themes for No Biomes X, while your method does not.

Download the jar anywhere and run it, and it should walk you through what to do.

The next version will probably remove the modifications to these classes, though.

Indeed, here's a list of the classes in ModLoader.zip:
