This mod rewrites a good deal of the world generation code to spawn Iron, Coal and Gold in very large deposits that are very widely spaced. Some people have been wanting to play said mod, so I finally released it.
Please note that this is my first mod, so don't be surprised if I've done something badly.
My suggestion for you end users is to install the mod, generate a new world, and then look at the world with some sort of map viewer to assure yourself that it works and is really generating said ore. Then delete the world (Because then you'll know where all the super rare deposits are, and searching for them is half the fun) and generate a new one for your personal enjoyment. Hopefully we can get some nice beta testing action here.
This mod is supported by Minecraft client version 1.5_01 and Minecraft server version 1.5_02. Installation instructions are in the readme. If you find any errors, or want to suggest changes, please do so in this thread.
v1.10 - Changed ore generation to generate ore in snake-like "tunnels" instead of singular, roughly spherical deposits.
v1.11 - Updated to fix IndustrialCraft compatibility issues. Probably a bunch of other mods, too.
v1.20 - Updated to support minecraft v1.6.6, and made gold veins spawn less gold.
v1.20 - Updated to support minecraft v1.7.4
Here are some images of the veins it spawns since the latest update:
The new generation method basically makes 4 or 5 line "segments" in 3D, end to end, to create a structure similar to a cave, but made out of it's respective ore. It's a great deal simpler and cruder then the caves are, but it works, remarkably well in fact considering my very limited expertise in java. With the new method here, you can tunnel down through the ore, building mine-cart tracks etc as you go along, exploring the reaches of the vein.

ALSO, If any of you server owners decide to run this mod on your server, please tell me about them, because I would love to join them!
Current version is probably incompatible with 1.6.4. I'll update it as soon as MCP for 1.6.4 is released.
NOTE: This mod will be incompatible with most other non-modloader mods that modify the world generation (Including IndustrialCraft, unfortunately). Any mod that modifies ChunkProviderGenerate or WorldGenMinable will unfortunately conflict.
I managed to get a server running off my computer, the IP is 70.61.72.50:25565 in case anyone wants to join. It's currently running this mod.
FINAL NOTE: I'm not going to make this a bukkit plugin. Stop using bukkit/hosting providers that don't let you directly modify the .jar.
I stopped updating this mod quite a while ago because I wasn't able to update it properly to be compatible with newer minecraft versions.

If you want the source code for any reason PM me.
Haven't found any ore yet, probably a good thing... you don't just walk outside and find coal in the ground. This makes a use for getting charcoal from burned wood too :biggrin.gif:
I dont know if i have a problem or not but... i put this mod into my jar file. then i went to my game and made a new world. ran around for a bit then closed and went to MCEDIT. i wanted to see what these would look like. you know. well i got into it and there is nothing. no coal, iron or that ANYWhere. i could see diamond at the bottom though and stuff which is uneffected by this mod. will you ore show in mcedit?
Lol, another mod to add to the list for when I want to play realism mode:
This(If it's the same as it was in the suggestion)
Nature Overhaul
Xie's Hunger
FiniteLiquid
Randomobs
Mo' Creatures
Pseudo Physics
Balkon's Weaponmod
MoreOres
Somnia
Millenaire
(I hope these are all compatible)
Bookmarked.

No. You're being purposely ignorant, and a smartass.
Does not work with Industrial Craft. I think these two would work amazingly well together, I know I was excited to get them to work but it just keeps crashing Minecraft.
If you make this for bukkit, I'll put it on my server.
Sorry, but from my understanding of bukkit, it is only for plugins that create chat based/GUI related functionalities. Not for actually changing the game's code.

Did you delete the META-INF file? If you don't do that, then the game will crash on you. I have no reason to think that industrialcraft would conflict with this mod; Industrialcraft doesn't mess with any of the oregen code. Oh wait lol, Industrialcraft does change worldgen code. My bad there. Yeah, I'll try to fix that. No guarantees though.

Yes I have deleted the META-INF file. I singled out every mod I was using and the conflict is for sure between this mod and IC. No rushes or pressure here at all, just mentioning that your good idea of realistic mining could go well with the Industrial aspect of the other mod. IC has the ore finder machine that could come in handy later game trying to find new deposits of Iron/coal/gold/ etc.

I didn't code it specifically to use mod loader, but there's no reason it wouldn't work on a .jar that has modloader. Just try it and find out.
