I am not copying any code, textures, or recipes. As stated, I have been and intend to develope everything I use myself. However, I was of course inspired by BTW mechanical power, so conceptually there will be some similarities. I figured it would be more polite to aknowledge that before hand.
I won't know how I'll feel about it until I see the final result, and it will likely be dependent on how many similarities there are.
Also, keep in mind that with the official mod API coming, it will likely bring increased compatibility between BTW and other mods, so if you're just doing this to have "BTW style mechanical power in Forge", it will likely result in some wasted effort.
Anyways, I'm not thrilled about the idea, but I certainly won't do anything to stop you. I *would* of course encourage you to come up with your own ideas if you're going to invest the effort into creating a mod. Any time you potentially invest in this could ultimately be spent on a new and original idea of your own devising, and that would have no risk of creating feature overlap, wasted effort, and animosity between us.

That is actually a very good point. I hadn't thought of that. I did have some ideas to expand and tier up mechanical power, but perhaps it would be better to wait and see what happens with the new api. I think I will.

Ah, that's great. and yes it's much appreciated. i'm interested to see the results
I have started making a forge compliant mod that utilizes mechanical power. However, as you have implemented this system first (and, really, best), I know there will be concerns about copying. And rightly so, frankly. While my plans have a lot of divergence from your system, there are several key areas in which I cannot escape using methods you have already implemented (animated wind/water generators, alxes, gearboxes, etc). I *will not* use any of your code or textures, I want that to be clear. My goal to learn Java and expand my programming experience, not rip you off and learn nothing. I respect how much time and thought you have put into your mod, and your position on modding in general.
I won't just be copying BTW, but I do wan to bring mechanical power back to the other tech mods. I miss the sight of grinding axles and power cables running under my floor....
Anyway, I hope to avoid unpleasantness by telling you ahead of time. If you have any opinion or input, I'd be glad to hear it. Your mod has always been one of my favorites.
Although some people don't like it, there is nothing wrong with copying features. It is perfectly legal and it is done all the time. This is why, for example, the game Words with Friends hasn't been sued by Scrabble. The only things you are not allowed to copy are code and graphics. Please feel free to blatantly copy whatever features from whatever mods you like.

It may be legal, but it's certainly not moral. This was not a good post.

I would say it's kind of cheap but not immoral. Windows still copies features from Mac OS. Minecraft copied a lot of features from Infiniminer. It is not immoral to copy features; it is common practice.
thanks for the help. so, how to you link a windmill to a millstone? (I am hopeles, I know )
The inputs for the millstone are on the top and bottom of the block. Make chain of gearboxes and axles from the windmill and connect it to the millstone. Also, make sure the gearboxes are facing the correct direction (the side with the arrows on it is its input)

Its probably for the better if we don't get into one of these discussions again.

Just because it's done doesn't make it right. Murder happens, too, but that doesn't make it OK.

There is no forge compatibility but the rest should be fine
4096 ids and optifine dont work together tho

DEAL WITH IT!
Is it raining/snowing when it happens? Windmills stop working when it starts to rain/snow and result in broken connections. That is intentional.

You can only have 3 axles connected in sequence, after that you need to put gearboxes in between each 3 block length of axles.
