Better Than Wolves... I installed this a few days ago and spent the better part of the last few days playing this game, and checking the web for help on making all the various items function as intended, and I just have to say "WOW!"
Everything has some clearly reasonable logic to its working (Even if it was obscure to me personally when I first tried) and all of the components are difficult to make, and time consuming to get to, (you can't just install the mod plant a few plants and have a fully functional windmill/industry room the next day) (**At least not without experience**)
After slogging through the content I wanted to post, so I did my best to review past posts, read the first 20 or so pages, than the last 50 (No way I'm reading 800 pages of forum traffic for ANYONE!)
Obviously I'm new to this mod, and only roughly aware of its history, but it is awesome! If I had the ability to make rope bridges and supported the water reflection mod I like (Water Shader alpha v4d) I'd be in heaven. Even so, I'll give up the now defunct Ziplines and ropes (Bridges since this gives you a rope) for the ability to construct these things!
I hope that this is able to be worked into the "Promised" Mod API with full release around the corner because this mod is about everything I always hoped Minecraft would become. Building yourself from the dirt to wind/water powered devices!
The only blight to me is that ONLY wolves provide dung... I think I see where that comes from (Otherwise it wouldn't be difficult to obtain) but god I hate hunting those damn things down.
Please keep it up! I wish I had some suggestions as to other innovations to provide, (Even fertile mental soil eventually dries out) but sadly I don't have anything useful that wouldn't be a separate mod by itself.
B.T.W.
Stick to your guns on the name, I'd rather have the ability to build almost anything than another animal.
(Not knocking the dogs, but "MINE-CRAFT")
Just saying what exactly? You provide no reasons why you think that the tanned leather armor is somehow "worse" than smoking pot.
Its not "worse". In fact, both are more or less equally harmless, but one is slightly more taboo than the other. But mainly I was saying that it struck me as a wee bit odd for you to suddenly add a gimp mask and assless chaps to a mod that, up until now, has been more or less PG, the PG-ness being what I assumed your reasoning was for not adding weed. It doesn't really bother me, but it kinda makes me wonder.
Don't think I'm one of those guys who wants smokable hemp, because I'm not. I never saw the point. This isn't Snow Crash after all, so its not like anyone can actually get high off virtual drugs.
I'm not complaining. This adition just seems a bit odd, and completely out of the blue. That's all I'm saying.
It makes it so that no water or lava sources can be removed or placed. If you pick up water or lava in a bucket and place it, it places a flowing water/lava block as opposed to a source block, which promptly disappears. It is supposed to force you to think deeper about building your house, Water Wheels, etc.
Pre-download: Wow, this looks pretty cool!
Gameplay: ... ... ... *stares in disbelief*
After my parents kicked me out for playing Minecraft 25 hours a day, 8 days a week: ... ... damn that was sweet...
SWEET MOD! Please continue updating, and for that matter never stop...
x a number no one has counted up to yet

Hehe...well, that was as intended.
As I got closer and closer to version 3.0, there were a lot of expectations for the New Age, so I had the following options:
1) Release something totally mind-blowing, as was expected. After considering this a long time, I decided the mod wasn't quite ready for what I had planned, and there were a lot of intermediate steps leading up to it that I wanted to get in first.
2) Start adding decimal places to my version numbering scheme to delay the onset of 3.0 (like 2.991). This struck me as kinda lame and left everyone in this perpetual state of limbo wondering when I'd finally bump it up.
3) Release something comical to defuse to expectations for 3.0. When I first put tanned leather in, I had considered putting in the gimp-mask and chaps because it occurred to me that tanned leather armor would be virtually useless, even though the mod and vanilla gameflow seemed to make it a natural extension. It fits in a weird place between regular leather and iron armor, that no one is likely to use given that finding dung for tanning at that stage of the game is problematic enough that you probably wouldn't want to invest it in tanned leather armor. I put aside that idea at the time though because I didn't already have code for armor written up, and it would have been a lot more work than it was worth for just a gag. However, I recently realized that I had already done all that work for the plate armor, so adding in the new set was 15 minutes tops and gave me an excuse to produce a ridiculous video (which was definitely good for a few laughs). I've been planning to stop making videos and turn that over to Battosay for the past little while, so I thought having one last farewell vid like that was appropriate for the people that have been following them.
So yeah, in the end I settled for option 3 due to a minimal time investment for a few laughs, so I could just get back to the work of making the mod as per usual :wink.gif:
As for Hemp, I agree with you that smoking it would be entirely useless and juvenile, which is the main reason I've never done it. I'd rather deny the "Hurr durr...Why can't you smoke it?" crowd than satisfy them just because it's such a lame and silly thing to ask for in a mod, and because it emphasizes the many historical and modern day uses for Hemp beyond just getting high.

I've got one idea for the next version, but its something that would really only be available to people who have both BTW and BuildCraft. You know the Engines from BuildCraft? There should be one of those that is powered by the Mechanical Power from your mod.

There's already a sub-mod that has been made that does this kind of thing:
My other idea was boilers. They use either stoked fire or lava to turn water into steam, and the steam turns a turbine, which supplies mechanical power, which would have the advantage over the water wheel by being more condensed. The boiler and turbine would be separate blocks, and they'd be placed over the hibachi like:
with = turbine, = boiler, = stoked fire (or lava), and = Hibachi (or n/a)
And also some means of turning mechanical power into redstone power, which I guess wouldn't really have a point, but having big mechanical generators would feel a lot more legit than all that power coming from a tiny little torch.
Seems like "next age" material to me. What do you think?

Also, do you know where I can find an up-to date version of the sub-mod? Because the version you linked me to doesn't appear to be up-to-date
Yeah, I'm not really receptive to people's ideas either. If you want to talk to other users about them (but not me), then there's a subforum into which to deposit them on the BTW forums.
Your idea has also already been suggested more times than I care to count, so don't bother.

I don't personally work on mod cross-overs.
If not what am I doing wrong, I'm using newest ModLoader, newest Forge, and Newest version of Btw.
Nope. It's a known issue with most mods as far as I know. Eventually the Forge will probably have a hook for that.
Really? Awesome.

Ya all mods have this issue the solution is too many items. it shows all blocks including ones that could not be normally acquired.
