First of all, the creator of this, and indeed any, mod HAS to wait before the Minecraft Coder Pack (MCP) has been released, which means that, however many times you post asking for an update JUST after a new version is out, the creator will NOT update for some time. And before you start whining on the MCP thread, let me try to explain a little about the Coder Pack: What those people have to do to update MCP is to deobfuscate the entire code of the Minecraft.jar. That means they have to open EVERY class file in there, find EVERY new variable in there, and Find out where those new variables are applied in-game. Then they have to add those variables to the MCP, which is able to translate a Minecraft.jar to something which can be used to make mods and retranslate that to the normal 'cryptic' programming language.
Because they have to go through the whole .jar and open every .class file in there, a larger update will take more time than a smaller update. Because the Adventure Update is a huge update, this process will probably take more than a week, depending on the amount of time the MCP team is willing to devote to this project.
No amount of whining is going to change this. If you're not willing to play Minecraft with mods, whether you're playing on a crappy laptop or you're just mod-spoiled, STICK WITH 1.7!
Also the fact that sp is away, so even if ModLoader and MCP updated right this instant, you wouldn't get it until he gets back.

Hahaha... I think this mod will eventually have as many whining fans as the game itself. :cool.gif:
Well no rush because we still need MCP. But when you update could you look into having an option to turn off the new lighting? This may be impossible. But if it is then I would appreciate it. I don't play Minecraft on my lap top often but my laptop (macbook pro) runs an old OS that dose not support versions of Java Higher then 5 which wasn't a problem until the lighting update. Here is what is going on.
the colors flash like a strobe light around anything that gives off light.
For me this is not a big issue because I play minecraft on my PC. However for all the people who may only have there old mac to play on they may want some sort of help here.
To be honest the 1.8 update is great. While the initial world generation is a bit slow once a few chunks are loaded I have had better performance with the game then I have had in the past. Still keep up the good work and just hold on to your boot straps because the YogsCast just plugged this mod on there lattes video. Congratulation :biggrin.gif:
I would almost suggest getting a moderator to lock this, if possible. If they can't read 4 lines down in the OP, they probably aren't going to read a single post on the last page either. No number of repetitions that it can't and, won't be updated for a while is going to keep the dunces from strapping on their stupid, and spamming the thread.
If you rely on this mod to have a decent fps you should probably update your graphics card. You may think Minecraft would work on any computer, but you sadly mistaken. Also stop whining to make the mod creator update it, he already stated that he needs MCP to update to 1.8 before he can even start.
I actually use this mod for the expanded video settings and far rendering. Not so much for the increased performance. However, it is the only way I can run 512x packs :biggrin.gif:

The "API" was only ever going to be the release of the code unobfuscated. As far as I know.
Plus, he is 2000km away from his PC. Anyone spamming asking for updates should really get a ban from the mods. These threads just turn into pages of s*** following an update.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue.
Torches in 1.8 seem to have the opposite effect that they should have. Areas without torches are bright, whereas areas with torches get darker.
My guess is that this new lighting is just too fancy for my old toaster (or maybe just a non Windows OS?), anyhow an option to remove this new lighting would be appreciated.

Fixed. Since Notch apparently doesn't care about Laptop Minecrafters (there's no evidence that they playtest releases on laptops, since 1.8_pre was COMPLETELY unplayable on anything above Fast/Normal/OpenGL-on), IMO OptiFine is a mandatory mod for all laptop players (with the possible exception of laptops built for gaming; I'm not sure if the problems are caused by laptop graphics cards being weaker than otherwise identical cards built for desktops, or if the physical architecture of a laptop is what makes Minecraft unhappy and no amount of upgrading will fix it).
And I am well aware that MCP must update before any other mods can (though Risugami seems to not need it; ModLoader's usually updated within an hour of release!), I already anticipated it'd be a week or two of Mojang releasing 1.8.* patches, then MCP catches up with that monstrosity, and a week after that (he'll have to dig through all that new lighting and render code), we *might* see a preliminary OptiFine_1.8. (One minor request: this update cycle, could you please put MCForge compatibility slightly higher than "when February 33rd falls on a Tuesday" on your to-do list? The way it sounds like it's going, MCForge will be as mandatory as ModLoader by the time Minecraft Full Release hits...)

Please update to 1.8, my entire enjoyable MineCraft experience has been with this mod. I really hope you update this within the next week, where my server is having a 1.8 party world. Thank you. :smile.gif:
Dude, read the OP. He can't update until MCP does (and by extension, when Mojang is done putting out 1.8.* patches).

I am still wondering why this beautifully made mod doesn't come standard in Minecraft. The ability to drop the graphics to a lower (or higher) level is always nice, especially when you can fine tune the things you like. I don't need smoke billowing from torches, or the torch animations. Yes, it looks nice, but lots of people play this on low end machines.
Now I'm not an expert but if you have a game that can be played almost as good on a low end machine as it does on a high end machine, wouldn't you have -more- people playing and buying the game? Would I rather spend 20 bucks on Minecraft or buy a new laptop for well over 400 bucks, plus buy Minecraft just so I can play a game? You see, laptops don't often have the ability to upgrade their graphics cards because of they way they are built.

Couldn't of put it better myself. I totally agree!

I've asked Notch at least a dozen times to make OptiFine official. No response, even when I included a few other Mojangers in the @-mentions. Further proof that he doesn't give a ssss about laptop players.
The fun thing is, did you see the video where Notch demoplayed 1.8 in creative on a notebook. I think they really need more test machines as it didn't seem to run bad on that one but it does run bad for a lot of people. Like he wouldn't have the money to get a few older notebooks (mine is over 5 years old) for testplaying and optimizing. Well let's see how the performance will be in final, if they can hold the release of that for 11.11.11.
Oh yeah, I did forget about that. But explain to me how a four-month-old, mid-range laptop (Win7 64-bit, 3GB RAM, 2.1GHz dual-core, ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4250) can't play the game above 20fps on vanilla. So fixing my earlier statement: Notch at least acknowledges laptop playability, but doesn't care enough to make it so you don't need a near-Alienware-level machine for it.
This is great, but I have a question about the following step:
5) copy the .class files from the downloaded zip into the minecraft.jar folder, replacing previous files
I use 7-zip archive manager. Whenever I place the new files into the folder, it doesn't ask me to "replace" the previous files. It adds them in alongside the old ones causing me to now have the original files AND the new ones in the archive. Is there a way to "copy and replace," or do I need to individually delete each old file within the archive, then add the new one?
...in the mean time, does anyone know if third-party tools like RadeonPro and ATI Tray Tools can be used to force GPU settings in Minecraft, like Vsync with Triple Buffering and/or MSAA? I know it gets kinda hairy when it comes to OpenGL and Java; a custom GPU profile would need to be applied to Javaw.exe (as opposed to Minecraft.exe), right?
Showoff.
1.8 lags in spikes a bit more for me, but I'm averaging around 50fps, with 10 on a good day in 1.7.3 without OptiFine.
