Optifine doesn't have an installer anymore? I've downloaded multiple files from the download page, none of them were installers. The last time I installed Optifine I used the Installer, now I have too go back too the old way of merging crap into Jar files? (Been away for roughly 3 Weeks.)
Edit: Herperedyderp, new computer, forgot too install Java when I reinstalled Minecraft (Microsoft made Minecraft not require Java? Or did I miss somethng...).

I can open it fine. You might have changed a setting to remove it opening with java. Try this. Shift+Right Click in the folder you downloaded the mod. Click 'Open Command window here'. Then type this: "java -jar Optifine_1.8.1_HD_U_B4.jar" Replace the jar name with the one you have. It should run. If it doesn't then java is screwed up and you should uninstall it and reinstall the latest version.
No... the automatic installation is literally gone. When I try to download Optifine Ultra B4 for 1.8.1, it brings me to a .jar file, but it opens in WinRAR, and yes, WinRAR doesn't seem to be the cause.
Hi sp614x. So I'm a bit confused with the way the 1.8 version optifine is set up. In the 1.7.10 version of optifine, I am able to adjust the anisotropic filtering setting. However in the new 1.8 version of optifine I am not able to adjust the anisotropic filtering setting what so ever and because of this my resource packs look much grainier(pix-elated) than they normally would with anisotropic filtering( In 1.6 or 1.5 and earlier we were able to receive the non grainy image of the "texture packs" without having anisotropic filtering, but that's besides the point). I've seen your post about how the availability of anisotropic filtering not being present could be the cause of lack of hardware support. The thing is if that's the case with my computer, than why was I able to use anisotropic filtering with the 1.7.10 version of optifine? And if the answer to that is because 1.8 requires more hardware support than 1.7.10 and previous versions of optifine did then my new question is why is that? Why did the hardware support requirements change for optifine? And if you changed it purposely, simply just because,(which I am assuming you did not because people generally don't do things that affect a huge community "simply just because") then why didn't you make two versions of optifine ,that are available for the newer versions of Minecraft, that have both the same requirements that it used to and new requirements for hardware(and if the hardware support requirements haven't increased due to bukkit being extinct then I am assuming it is because many people that play Minecraft use mods, shaders, etc. in order to enhance their gaming experience and thus to coincide with the increasing amount of players that use these mods you amped up your optifine program and in the process increasing the requirements for certain portions of the mod. But this is only speculation. That is why I am asking you to please answer these questions). I have my assumptions and speculations just as most people do, but I figured I'd asked the source for the answer to my problem. I really enjoy playing Minecraft. I have been playing it for 3-4 years now, but since I've been playing it for that long it hasn't had the same spark for me as it once did. Texturepacks/Resource packs changed this for me(I would use shaders, but my graphics card isn't good enough)! It made the game an interesting and fun experience for me again. And now with the texture packs not being applicable with the latest versions of Minecraft due to the lack of anistropic filtering I am not able to enjoy Minecraft as I once have. So please I ask that you have read this. I am assuming that the likely-hood of you receiving this message and reading this message isn't likely(because you are a huge person in the Minecraft community and I grantee that you recieve hundreds if not thousands of emails pertaining to your mod a day) , but I figured I would try anyways. All that a side. I am writing this to you on Christmas day. So if you celebrate Christmas, I hope you have a Merry Christmas! And if you don't I hope you have a good day.
I have a strange issue with optifine, I have used it with out fail for since 1.7.6 or so, its been great for the most part, But I just got a new laptop with Windows 8.1 on it and im having trouble reinstalling it on my system. The problem seems to be that it seeks a program to open it instead of self installing like it usually does. Any help would be appreciated!

Direct it to use Java.exe to open the file type, then it will run as an installer.

Implementing AA and AF is on the TODO list.
Adding AA and AF is quite tricky with the Minecraft graphics engine. Older versions of OptiFine were using different hacks in order to enable them. The hacks are no longer working in 1.8 and I will have to invest some time exploring several alternative solutions. There are many factors deciding which one will be used, for example graphical artifacts, complexity, number of affected classes, Forge compatibility and so on. The more complex solutions have a higher chance of conflicting with other mods and more complex (slower) porting to next Minecraft versions.
I get this error when entering a world using the newest forge for 1.8 and 1.8.0 HD U B4. (I tried using 1.8.1 but it dosent even load the game.)

I have tried the new Optifine 1.8.1 B4 and are still have the issue of flickering clouds when moving character. I have again tried various tweaking of settings on and off and have yet not found the cause to this. If anyone knows whats causing this for me, please let me know. Thanks.
MC Geek NZ, it's a vanilla server. I got the prompt to install the textures, selected yes and it installed it, but none of the textures showed up. The textures were a fixed method connected textures that are animated, this works fine when I manually install the resource pack. I also checked the folder where the server resource packs are saved and all the textures were there in the correct places.
Nvm it worked
It's the last 4 digits of the version number.

Preview OptiFine B5 for Minecraft 1.8 is available here.
What is new:
- updated Forge compatibility
- compatible with Forge #1274 for Minecraft 1.8
This is a preview, it may crash or behave unresponsibly.
Forge for 1.8 is beta and may also crash at its own discretion.
...
