yes, me too: Switching to more than "Far" doesn't change the view. It only increases fps .. i tested it few times and so i switched back to "Far" and have better fps with same viewable distance.
This a bug?
My System: Win 7 64 bit, Java 7, latest Forge (build 4.1.4.295), mods: ExtraBiomesXL, LCTrees, Coral Reef
On a semi-related note, do you know, assuming it is possible, how to add custom animations for mod blocks? I've tried the method for vanilla blocks described in the MCPatcher guide (via block ID, with a source image and destination coordinates) but it won't work.
I just installed a lot of mods and Forge 4.1.1.265 and I seem to be getting an unusual amount of lagg and crashes. I herd it was abug with optifine but heres the log for anyone to checkout for more info, BTW will the most recent forge comability be established in the next release?

Looking forward for when Better Skies is added to Optifine! As always, keep up the great work. Optifine does such an amazing job of boosting fps for me that I really can't imagine playing without it, not to mention all the great features like CTM and better grass/snow that makes the game look better too.
The mod was great, it increased my fps and everythin ran faster and good texture like connected texture and HD texture packs, thanks but......
The chunk loading was still a bit lag. I used smooth and multi-core.
Multi-core shows x-ray each time you got chuck updates for other special things like falling blocks etc. And I doesn't like X-ray
And smooth doesn't show x-ray. But there is still a bit of lag.
There's currently a bug in B3 that prevents any custom key bindings from being saved. I'm not too sure if someone already reported that, but it's reverting all rebinded keybindings because it doesn't save them to the options.txt file at all.
How to fix this problem? when i didnt use optifine i had allot of lag.. and framedrops but now are the shadows really messed up and i couldnt/cant find a way to get it right.. anyone got a suggestion?

But when i use the vanilla minecraft it wont popup.. like using it without optifine.
Optifine rendering might screw around with the shadows in weird ways, but it is a vanilla lighting glitch. There are lighting fixes, but at the current moment, they are pushed to update 1.5.

Also I found that Optifine is fully incompable with Fore 4.1.1.265+, its because optifine causes a rendering glitch and overwrites some of Forges class. Hopefully a fix will come out soon.

I'm using Forge 4.1.4.298 in conjunction with OptiFine B3 and so far there haven't been any serious problems, though I'm sure the bugs will eventually crop up. The only downside is MystCraft won't work with that branch of Forge. :C
This is not to say you can just use such a recent version of Forge and expect everything to work perfectly, since B3 is quite outdated in comparison, but they're not "fully incompatible" either, just sketchy business. Combine them at your own peril, as they say, and backup your worlds.
Also note that OptiFine overwriting Forge classes is intended, as OptiFine is built on top of specific Forge builds for compatibility.
Or you could, you know, use an actual version of forge that works with optifine, and deal with it. Since Optifine only really gets updated for compatibility every so often, or when a new MC version is out.
But really, you guys keep updating to your silly ol' latest forge builds, and expect Optifine to conform to your wants. Blahblahblah make compatible with forge blahlblahblah.
Either wait for Optifine, or update your Forge and enjoy your crappy FPS if it's what you really need.
I'd rather go with stable and good FPS than some measly small insignificant changes for whatever Forge required mods, if I even used it in the first place.

Hey Optifine should be a forge mod anyway (to the creator, no pressure). There is no reason for optifine or any mod to not before compatable apart from lazyness. Hopefully once MC API in 1.4 gets released Foreg will be easier to code for new comers.

On a semi-related note, do you know, assuming it is possible, how to add custom animations for mod blocks? I've tried the method for vanilla blocks described in the MCPatcher guide (via block ID, with a source image and destination coordinates) but it won't work.

The chunk loading was still a bit lag. I used smooth and multi-core.
Multi-core shows x-ray each time you got chuck updates for other special things like falling blocks etc. And I doesn't like X-ray
And smooth doesn't show x-ray. But there is still a bit of lag.
Please fix this soon

But when i use the vanilla minecraft it wont popup.. like using it without optifine.

Curse PremiumOptifine rendering might screw around with the shadows in weird ways, but it is a vanilla lighting glitch. There are lighting fixes, but at the current moment, they are pushed to update 1.5.
Also I found that Optifine is fully incompable with Fore 4.1.1.265+, its because optifine causes a rendering glitch and overwrites some of Forges class. Hopefully a fix will come out soon.
Don't use mcpatcher.
I'm using Forge 4.1.4.298 in conjunction with OptiFine B3 and so far there haven't been any serious problems, though I'm sure the bugs will eventually crop up. The only downside is MystCraft won't work with that branch of Forge. :C
This is not to say you can just use such a recent version of Forge and expect everything to work perfectly, since B3 is quite outdated in comparison, but they're not "fully incompatible" either, just sketchy business. Combine them at your own peril, as they say, and backup your worlds.
Also note that OptiFine overwriting Forge classes is intended, as OptiFine is built on top of specific Forge builds for compatibility.
Or you could, you know, use an actual version of forge that works with optifine, and deal with it. Since Optifine only really gets updated for compatibility every so often, or when a new MC version is out.
But really, you guys keep updating to your silly ol' latest forge builds, and expect Optifine to conform to your wants. Blahblahblah make compatible with forge blahlblahblah.
Either wait for Optifine, or update your Forge and enjoy your crappy FPS if it's what you really need.
I'd rather go with stable and good FPS than some measly small insignificant changes for whatever Forge required mods, if I even used it in the first place.
Same goes for MCPatcher things. Either use Optifine and wait, or deal with it and continue using MCPatcher for your silly BetterSkies etc. People need to get it imbeded in their heads that stuff takes time to update and add on too. Optifine isn't like Forge where some silly-nilly build is compiled every few days or something. Maybe the guy in charge of Forge has no life and can fully dedicated his/her time to updating it?
Pretty sure sp614x is pretty busy with his life, and can't spend all day listening to your incompentent requests and bickering about adding things. It's the same things asked for over and over, he's obviously seen the requests, so stop it by now.

Bug reports on the other hand, besides the typical "OMG HALP BLACK SCREEENZ!!1111one", are pretty important, because not everyone is using forge, and trying to make Optifine work with their latest builds (which will obviously not work with some things), not everyone has the same java version, and other things, so bug reports about crashes and java error related things are fair game for being posted quite often.

Hey Optifine should be a forge mod anyway (to the creator, no pressure). There is no reason for optifine or any mod to not before compatable apart from lazyness. Hopefully once MC API in 1.4 gets released Foreg will be easier to code for new comers.
