i want to use sonics shader mod but what i thought was a good computer isnt :/ what optifine is best for my computer? here is my specs: 8 gb ram AMD FX(tm)-4100 Quad-Core Processor 3.60GHz so if some one could tell me what would be best for my computer to use this mod let me know
When I login my screen turns black and stays like that? I have modloader and I am for sure I installed both mods correctly. I re-installed them 10 times and the problem was reoccurring. I don't possibly know what could be the problem. I would be greatly appreciative if anyone can help me resolve this issue, because this is a must have mod for my minecraft.

Firstly, Optifine works without Modloader.
But if you NEED Modloader for other mods, it has to be installed BEFORE Optifine.
Hard to think Optifine could get even better...but it did xD
Updated to 1.2.4 as soon as Optifine was updated fully and released. I LOVE being able to see the Sun and Moon in the distance while playing on Tiny, makes the game look great while have great performance, and with stars at night, makes the night treks through waves of mobs very relaxing xD
Really glad I donated weeks ago, keep up the good work man

First off, there are issues when trying to use any shader mod with OptiFine since both modify rendering. If you install the shader before OptiFine, part of the shader will most likely not work. If you install the shader after OptiFine, you'll break part of OptiFine instead.

I have posted this before but here we go again.
Unfortunately, there's no quick simple answer to that question. It depends on your system, drivers, OptiFine settings, number of other mods used, and other factors etc.
I believe the performance enhancements between the Light and Standard editions are pretty much the same. The Smooth edition has some extra steps it takes to also try and reduce lag therefore increasing performance. The Multi-Core edition tries to also take advantage of the second core in multi-core processors.
HOWEVER, the extra features included with the Non-Light editions could take up more resources such as memory usage. That can be a huge factor on older machines. Also, some multi-core processor drivers don't perform as well as others. This is another one of the possible reasons why some people may get better performance from the Smooth edition rather than with the Multi-Core edition even if they do have a multi-core processor.
And, OptiFine configuration (again, for the Non-Light editions) is about performance vs. aesthetics. If you are the type of person that likes to disable as many possible graphical settings as you can (i.e., clouds, fog, etc), you can also increase your performance that way. But, of course the Light edition doesn't include those extra configuration settings. Plus, "performance" itself is sometimes relative in general based on the person's perception and other factors (see sp614x's blog on the subject).
I could go on but the only way you can truly tell for your system, setup, and personal preferences, etc, is to try each one and compare for yourself.
Hey guys im having problem with optifine multi core .Some flashes/artifact appear in game.Im tryin to disable Threaded Optimization / OpenGL Threading but i cant find them in my Intel graphics control panel(Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for mobile) .Can anyone tell me how to fix this. Thanks
You're not going to find that in the Intel Graphics Control Panel.
Since you're on a laptop, and depending on the specs of that laptop, there may not be much you can do.
Instead, try the following things.
Update your system drivers. Especially, your video drivers. Also, install any service packs etc.
Update Java. If you're on a 64-bit edition of Windows, install both the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Java.
I love this mod and i want to keep using it! But since 1.2.5 when i isntall the 1.2.5 optifine version i always seem to get a black screen and if i delete the meta inf file in my 1.2.5 jar (in the other jars the file is already deleted) i get the the black screen which forces me to update in order to use mc pathcer and be able to play minecraft but without optifine. What do i do?
Hello, can someone help me? I'm on a mac and i manually installed OptiFine HD A2 Multi-Core for Minecraft 1.2.4 and 1.2.5, cause i tried the magic launcher and that doesn't work as well. Its just stuck there at the done loading part and doesn't go any further. Please help me.
Has there been any progress on the custom colors thing? Read the past five or six pages and didn't see any responses regarding it. Custom colors are not appearing while OptiFine is loaded, and I've tested the "99% complete" 1.2.4 Optifine, and both 1.2.5 HD_A2 and 1.2.5 HD_A2_S(mooth) versions.
Removing all mods except Optifine and its dependencies (ModLoader) did not remedy the problem. Removing Optifine while leaving the rest of my mods in position and active had custom colors displaying properly. Deleting the .txt files in the base /appdata/.minecraft folder did not solve the problem. I haven't yet tried messing with my drivers or video card settings since custom colors not being used doesn't seem to be related to that.
i use optifine smooth and when i enable ctm it works fine..but after i logged out and log in again the ctm doesnt work anymore. i pressed the ctm option to fast/fancy but it remains off
Found a bug with 1.2.5 HD A2 Standard (haven't tested other editions): when 'Load Far' is enabled, all loaded chunks are rendered, even if the render distance is set shorter. Whether the render distance is on normal, short, or tiny, I can still see 7/8 chunks away. If the render distance is over 128 blocks, Load Far has no effect.

well there is a problem with your first statment, its REQUIRED to install optifine for the shader to work so you sorta dont know what you are talking about

No, I just keep forgetting that there is at least one (or possibly more) shader that does specifically require OptiFine and is therefore compatible with it.
1st: It does improves my FPS. Good job.
2nd: My Minecraft often closes itself since I installed Optifine.(I use Optifine Standard A2 and Minecraft v1.2.4)
Here are my installed mods:
Just wanted to tell you that OptiFine does NOT depend on Modloader. You do NOT need Modloader to use OptiFine. OptiFine does NOT require Modloader.
Don't know where you got such an idea.
Meh, could've sworn OptiFine stated it required ModLoader. Maybe it was in one of the really old versions. Doesn't matter; OptiFine doesn't require it but damned near everything else does
Anyway, any idea if the OptiFine folks are aware of the issue? Think I could find a custom colors mod and use that as a workaround in the meantime?
Hey everyone just wondering if someone was to get this for a laptop would it really boost up there game? Or is it just supposed to make the game look better or worse?

Texture pack you're using? And, did you actually try with another edition like the Multi-Core and/or Standard editions?
