Good mod, though I haven't really noticed anything in the way of an increase in FPS, which is what I got it for, but that's probably because my computer is ancient (8-9 years old). It's useful though for turning off the lag-inducing weather (I like the rain/snow feature, but it makes the lag so much worse when it comes on...just easier to turn it off.) and the zoom-in is a nice feature, though I'm not sure what the use is for it.
I hatedowngrading or upgrading because my options.txt gets completely wiped. is there any way you could make optifine use a seperate.txt file so I don't have to configure it again and again?
i LOVE this mod ..especially because i have a laptop.. but the only bad thing is that after i play minecraft for about 5 minutes it crashes my minecraft
I had distinctly similar problems when I used the multicore version.
If you have problems with flashing or transparent blocks you can try:
A. Disable "Threaded Optimization" / "OpenGL Threading" in the graphics card control panel (example)
B. Enable "Vertical Synchronization" in the graphics control panel or set the option Performance to VSync.
You could try that workaround if you're having similar symptoms.
This has been an amazing tool for me to use when my computer is about to explode from Minecraft. I just hope the development continues and 1.2.4 version is out soon!

BA: Hi everyone. I hope you all have a good day. See you in Skaia! -Nich Davidson (My Homestuck OC)
Manually
1 - Download and install either 7-zip or WinRAR.
2 - Either learn the OS-level shortcut commands to get to your application data folder (such as %APPDATA% for windows), or go into your folder options and set it to view the proper folders (hidden folders for Windows, "dotfile" folders for Linux). For recent versions of OSX you'll need to go unhide your library folder with a command in the terminal since it's hidden by default now and from what I've seen from OSX users, it gets re-hidden with system updates so you'll need to unhide it multiple times.
3 - Navigate to find minecraft's main .JAR file in the binary folder now that you can actually get there.
4 - Either set the association of .JAR files to open with your archive program of choice, set up associations to let you right-click and "open with" quickly, or open the main file managing view of 7-zip or WinRAR and then browse to the location of the main minecraft.jar and open it.
5 - Open the mod in either 7-zip or WinRAR, or extract it somewhere to get the .class files.
6 - Copy the .class files into the opened minecraft.jar, overwriting the ones that are there. This is often easiest to do by dragging the .class files into the window with minecraft.jar itself.
Magic Launcher
1 - Download Magic Launcher.
2 - Run it.
3 - Click "Setup".
4 - "Add" a mod by pointing to to the .zip file.
5 - "OK".
There's no competition. For the average user, Magic Launcher is multiple times faster and easier, with many more options to boot (such as custom profiles of mod sets).
MCPatcher has the exact same functionality. The only difference is instead of RAM loading a modified jar, it creates a physical backup the first time you use it, which will always be clean. You can even save profiles. They both work essentially exactly the same with different GUI. It's all personal preference. I've been using MCP since 1.7 and it's never given me any reason to switch.

The next version will be using separate configuration file.
When I do "max fps" the fps is 130~
and the GPU usage is 50%-60%
but when I choose vsync" the fps is 60 and the
gpu usage is 99%-100%
Do you mean CPU usage?
The VSync option is implemented in the graphics card driver. OptiFine does not control how it works, it can only turn it ON or OFF.
Hi sp614x, I really appreciate your work on optifine; it's the only thing that can make minecraft on my computer bearable, so I donated. Good luck and thanks for the cape!

I mean gpu usage
I have ati gpu card and I can see that when I do max fps then the "activity" is 50%-70%
while getting alot of fps, 100+
and when vsync is om it is at 100% activity and 60 fps with drops to 55
I dont have it in other games with vsync on only in minecraft from what I know
also the "Far view" lowers the fps alot when on at render distance of normal which is not that much far from "far view" off and render distance on far
when acually my gpu activity is 20% when "far view" is on and my cpu is 40-60% and yet I get 20 fps

That was exaggerated. Its more like:
1-Get 7-zip
2-Type %appdata% in search
3-Open Roaming - Minecraft - Bin - Minecraft.jar
4-Drag the mod files in
I do prefer MCpatcher to that but you made it seem ridiculously long to install manually.
sp614x, keep up the good work and may the update take less time. As one guy on fimfiction.net says, onwards and upwards. ALLONS-Y! (Dr. Who reference much?)

Hi
i am using: OptiFine HD B Multi-Core for Minecraft 1.2.3
but i get flickering artifacts if i use it. On the screen i geht white small fields wich are there for half a second if i look through the world.
I use Minecraft 1.23 on 32bit-WindowsXP & Quad-Core-CPU with the Nvidea-graphics-card-driver.
Highlighted the possible source to your issue. Have you tried turning off threaded optimization as suggested in the OP?
I tried both. Vsync & this option to no. And each alone. But the flickering stays.

Spout does not have a built-in OptiFine.
And it says its 1.2.4 here: http://www.minecraftmine.org/optifine-mod/ Its fake, right?

One of? There's no contest with Optifine.
