This might be askign for a lot but the
"OptiFine HD B Multi-Core for Minecraft 1.2.3 (extends Smooth edition, uses second core on multi-core processors)"
Does it only use 2 cores? if so any chance for more core support? Currently on a 8 core I mean cmon why not ?
OptiFine supports only 2 cores.
The reasons are ... complex. It is a whole wonder that it works at all.
Writing threaded software even for two cores, let alone eight, is not easy. It often involves separating tasks into parts so they can be run individually instead of as a group, requires crazy synchronization, a ton of testing and guesswork to make sure you're dividing tasks up in the most efficient way, and most of all, severely increases the potential for timing and sync-related bugs (world flashing, things happening in the wrong order, etc). It's a pain all around, and a large part of the reason most apps don't take advantage of multi-core processors to nearly the extent they could.
That being said, shadoskil, what processor do you have? Since it seems like you have a pretty dang good computer, I'd be willing to bet you're already getting FPS well above your display's refresh rate (unless your graphics card isn't up to snuff), and using additional cores wouldn't be that much help to you.
awesome mod actually tripled my fps but made all of my other mods stop working why does it do this i followed all the troubleshooting tips and my mods are still gone for now im not going to use optifine
sp, did you make this mod intending it to work or was just a test? Because I have seen a lot of 'performance increasing mods' but they never work. Did you ever think this mod would actually work?
I found a slight bug in the latest release of optifine, when anyblock is underwater, and is effected by a light source a flicker effect happens. Its kind of annoying when your building underwater.
Here are some examples, notice the light effect on the glass blocks then the sudden darkness, the first picture is an example of the setup incase you want to reproduce.
Since 1.1, my GUI ingame flickers, with Optifine. This includes health bar, when you press 'ESC' and the options show, my hand, other players. What's causing this annoyance?
This happens for all versions of Optifine Multithreaded. My 1.1 is modded. My 1.2.3 only has Optifine Multi-Thread....
Edit:
I think other people do not have such an issue, but please reply if you think you know why this is happening. I suspect that this is caused by my laptop being weak.
Computer Specifications:
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2 GHz
Intel Family Chipset 9(Something like that. Weird GPU, and sucks I know, no need to point out...)
2GB RAM
Minecraft Settings:
Render Distance : Short / Tiny (These 2 has no difference)
Smooth Lighting: No FPS difference.
Advanced OpenGL: Off, laggs HARDCORE when set to fast.....
With Optifine:18~24FPS
Without Optifine 15FPS
What should I upgrade?
Yeah I am having that same issue here, It starts off running great, then all of a sudden it gradually starts going down and slowing down, I am not even running that many mods, just three.. and even with minecraft alone(no mods besides Optifine and modloader) it does the same thing... any solutions anybody?
Happens to me to, doesn't take too much to change setting's aye? But this happens to my Mincraft without Optfine too. The developer is right about world loading..... (of course (s)he is! (s)He spends so much time for the good of other's enjoyment!)
that does not make much sense. if it overheats, the problem is with ventillation not video card, which is different from gpu.
if overheating is the problem should i get heat sink? and how do i attatch it to a laptop?
Can i use "OptiFine HD B Multi-Core" for Non-Mulit-Core-PC´s? Or has it any disadvantages?
Yes, you CAN use the Multi-Core edition on computers that have only a single-core processor.
There are no real disadvantages to doing so, except it will basically act like the Smooth edition. So, there are also no real extra advantages to doing so either. However, some people have run into problems with the Multi-Core edition in general. So, you should also try the Smooth edition and compare performance for yourself. That's really the only way to tell for sure whether or not you receive any extra benefits from it etc.
Help! This makes me run out of memory extra fast, and I REALLY NEED IT.
I recommend you download Magic Launcher, which is also created by sp614x, the developer if Optifine. Reduce/Increase the amount of momory you wish to allocated to Minecraft.
Can i use "OptiFine HD B Multi-Core" for Non-Mulit-Core-PC´s? Or has it any disadvantages?
You can use, but I am not to certain if it will benefit the non-multi core pcs. From what i read on the original post, it loads chunks faster, but Minecraft no longer uses McRegion, instead uses what they have called "Anvil"
Using multicore Optifine brings you (at least me) the unknown "horrible render bug of death".
Huge parts of the world will often flash invisible so you can see underground caves and lava etc. even when far up mountains. Tried every option combo there is, both graphics, view distance and performance. Twiddling with nVidia options does NOT help.
vSync and disabling multi-core optimization does NOT help.
I have not tried other optifine packs yet but that's what I'm here for now, just thought I'd let you know that the multicore version still has (a) serious bug(s).
I KNOW this is related to optifine or it's modding because I don't have this problem when disabling optifine in MagicLauncher.
It's unplayable when you can't see what blocks are beneath you or next to you, I'd highly appreciate this post being seen and taken into consideration, because my FPS and performance did increase a LOT. You never get the whole deal do you, always a catch...

Sorry for double posting.
Whenever a gfx card overheats, it might as well be the video card's fault. Depends on point of view. Especially if you overclock it, like many do. (For the record I recommend NOT overclocking just because "it's cool" unless you know what you're doing, because many inexperienced users ruin their PC components (especially the gfx card) because they don't know what they're doing.)
Some gfx cards are poorly designed or designed to run with "extreme" cooling, which seldom is stated. The result being running constantly around 70c or more and ruining the card and other components.. the soldering dry and crack up and currents are broken.
Also, for the record, everyone has a heatsink. It's the metallic "torso" on your gfx card. I have no experience with laptops, but stationarys should get water cooling for best cost effeciency
Good fans are effecient but heats up your room and is noisy.
Power supply is more often than not an issue if you have consistent problems with your gfx card.
If your laptop have overheating problems, try a simple external cooling system, like a regular fan, or buy from any computer store a laptop pad with integrated fan (you put your laptop on top of it, and it's cooled from beneath. The fan is most often supplied by an usb cord which you plug into your laptop).
i like this mod alot!
but since the new 1.2.3 update somehow it does increase fps, (from 50 to 75ish)
but whenever i use some lever connected to pistons i get a freeze of like 4 seconds
also redstone clocks really make my fps drop down to like 10 max
i did not have this a few weeks ago before 1.2.3
anyone know whats going on?
Do these mechanics involve lights? Especially the redstone lamp.
In 1.2.3 it seems some debug settings were left in the release which slow down light changes, so mechanisms with changing light rapidly cause lag. My poor disco floor causes lots of stuttering now. XD
The Minecraft community in general isn't about "respecting and caring" either. It largely consists of narcissistic children who disregard those other than themselves and like to spout anger, abuse, troll and flame. It is also why any competent multiplayer builder either owns a private server or one where build allowance requires in-depth vetting. If Minecraft was about "respecting and caring" these measures would clearly not be necessary.
