Ever looked at that Azanor fella? He does mindboggling stuff, usual good modders need months for, in just a week. That guy is a god of java.
Im not doubting any mod makers skill in coding but sp614x specifically works on a mod that is mean to improve performance of the game for its users and azanor makes thaumcraft. Both are amazing mods but in this sense just referencing sp614x's great work, and saying that he should get hired to mojang.
I found that the new Linux launcher for MC has come out. I DL'd it, ran the version needed for my copy Optifine to set up and run. I go to run it and it closes out the launcher, normally, and nothing happens. However, MC runs fine, normally.
I think this could be related to the Java run-time, but am looking for a solid determination. It would be greatly appreciated.
Current java runtime packages are (brought in via the LM19 upgrade build - a.k.a. not my fault):
Is there any way to use optifine for 1.6.x versions of minecraft? I couldn't prevent the game from redownloading the 1.6.x.jar file. Forge doesn't work too.
Modding this vorsions in general doesn't seem to work at all.
You can still mod 1.6.4 but you have to perform several additional steps:
1. Make a copy of the version that you want to mod (such as .minecraft\versions\1.6.4 - copy the 1.6.4 folder)
2. Rename the folder and the jar and json files inside, all to the same name, such as 1.6.4_modded
3. Open the json and search for "id": "1.6.4" and change "1.6.4" to the same name you gave to the files
4. Search the json for "client.jar" and delete the entire "downloads" section enclosing it (as shown here; delete everything shown except for the last line, which contains the version ID you changed in step 3).
5. You should now be able to mod the jar as usual and the launcher will leave it alone (the game output should look like this, note the "couldn't get hash... have to assume it's good").
This also applies to any other version that you manually mod (without an installer, and they may not work for older versions due to changes to how you have to install mods. Note that Optifine has a built-in installer, including the 1.6.4 version, as does Forge. I just extract the Optifine jar and add all the files directly to the jar since I also use my own jar mods. With Forge though you just add it to the mods folder).

Hello! I have a quick question. I've fallen a bit behind on what is and isn't possible in Optifine and what not. Here's the question:
Is there currently a way to have mob limb textures be asymmetrical, as the player skin has been for some time? I have the need to have separately textured right/left arms/legs. Thank you in advance!
sp614x, can you already tell if the 1.13 code is a complete mess, or did they really "optimize" stuff, as they're claiming?
I take it we're waiting for Optifine 1.13? I can't find a download 1.12.2/1.13 (which some sites mention), on the Optifine download site and 1.12.2 just corrupted my 1.13 world. Or vice versa.
And yes, I backed up the old one.
Since there are no piranha in the crops, I can certainly wait. The ocean is a long way away, and my eyes need Optifine. Awesome MOD. I agree Mojang should be paying you, you really enhance the players' game experience.
The 1.12.2 Optifine will not work with a 1.13 and opening a 1.13 world in 1.12.2 is not a good idea as there has been a lot of changes in 1.13 in the backend of the client, that is why it recommended you make a backup before switching over as you cannot revert back once it is 1.13. Also only trust the creators site for the mod release, any other site might give you a nasty surprise.
Hey SP, would it be hard to add a feature like making the key biding for "enter" and "keypad enter" be the same? On 1.13 Mojang made them different buttons and as someone who uses both keys to open the chat it feels weird.
Just wondering if that could be done.
Thank you!

The graphics card is updated and the scale adjustment is in full screen, it only works well with the native settings of my PC, but it makes the game very slow.
Some help?
Without knowing the specs of the pc I cannot help with the slow speed but the full screen issue is because the slid adjuster for the full screen mode is set to 800x600. This needs to be bumped up to the closest size setting of the monitor (ie if your monitor can do 1280x720 it should be set there).

It is an old laptop with 4GB of Ram, a Geforce 540m of 1GB and an intel core i7, it could play games at 1080p but it suffers a heating problem, already taken to the technician and continues with the problem, causing the games to go with jerks of fps, giving very frequent sudden drops, apart from the fact that the laptop makes a lot of noise, but it does not seem to help the fan much. That's why I want to play full screen and that resolution or a lower one.
You can check here for suggestions that are tagged with "todo" at Github. They are not guaranteed to be in the upcoming update, but he seems to be considering to add these in the future.

1.13 is "the biggest upheaval in the history of minecraft releases" [1] and optifine is already at 30%.
Optifine is probably not affected by the changes to Forge and other modloaders, which I understand is due to them using some buggy code (Forge had issues with Java 8 as well back in the 1.6/1.7 days because of this, when the game was still written for Java 6 but people were updating to the latest version of Java); for comparison, my own mods (all vanilla jar mods) do not depend on anything outside of the Minecraft jar itself and should work on any version of Java as long as the vanilla game itself can. Otherwise, I'm not surprised that they are already a third of the way done as 1.13 mainly changed world generation code, not rendering code (aside from water-related stuff but certainly not as big as 1.8, which likely took the longest time to update of any recent version, if not any version).

I'm happy to see development on the 1.13 version of this mod has started, and will try to be patient for the release. It's not critical to me for performance (I can run 1.13 without it and haven't seen my fps drop below 100, in fact in certain spots I've seen it go a little over 500 - and I'm using PureBDCraft 256x textures), but some of the visual enhancements are nice (connected textures for glass is my favorite). I'm a bit curious where sp614x got his hands on MCP for 1.13 though, since I just checked Searge's download site (which is "under construction"), and it only lists versions up to 1.12.

sp614x actually deobfuscates the game by themselves, which is not quite as hard as it sounds if you know the internals of the game (even MCP doesn't fully deobfuscate the game, with variables still having names like "var1" and some fields and methods still being "field_12345" or "func_12345", and some even being misnamed); for example, despite major refactors to world generation I was able to easily find the cave generator class by searching for bits of code that I knew were specific to it, then looking through the classes until I found code that looked right:
(I was going to mod it to revert the changes they made in 1.7, releasing one of the first mods for 1.13, though the refactors mean that I'd have to go though 58 different classes as the "chance" of caves was moved to a constructor in each of 58 biome classes; either that, or learn enough about bytecode to modify the constructor to override the chance parameter).

This is for the Linux JAVA for Linux Mint 19.
