I always wanted a mod that increased the draw distance, I started working on this like a month ago.
I'm aware that there are other mods that do this, they however are different they added a "very far" distance and didn't work in SMP, it also changed the UI options so it conflicted with UI mods.
All the View distances increases you can now Toggle in game, the "Tiny" view distance in game becomes what Vanilla's "Far"
So "Far" is now double more view, Normal is 50% more, Short is 25% more, Tiny is the Exact same as Vanilla's Far.
THIS MOD PRETTY MUCH WILL HAVE STABILITY ISSUES WITHOUT A BIGGER HEAP SIZE SET/ OR 64BIT JAVA INSTALLED!!!
HERE IS THE LINK TO DOWNLOAD 64BIT JAVA, ANY COMPUTER WITH 4gigs+ ram and a 64BIT VARIANT OF WINDOWS SHOULD BE USING THIS 64bit JRE
BY DEFAULT MOST PEOPLE's COMPUTERS ARE INSTALLING THE WRONG VERSION! IT DETERMINES THE VERSION ON ORACLES SITE BASED ON THE WEB BROWSER, NOT THE OS, MOST BROWSERS ARE 32BIT!
I highly suggest people set the view distance to normal, it increases the view distance to 50% more than Default "Far" and will be the best performance/Quality ratio.
People on your server do not have to use this mod if they don't want to. It only affects the limit of how many chunks the server is willing to send to the client.
NEW 1.3.2!!!!!!!!!!!!!! READ THIS OR IT WILL NOT WORK!!!!!!
With the merge of SSP/SMP You now have to set how many chunks the new serverclient will load, I have made a "View.txt" file to set the "view-distance" parameter for the client. It goes in the mods folder in the folder where you run the game from.
The settings is the same as it was for the old server properties as follows on the following list. Just make sure you only change the number, without the View.txt in the right place the game will defualt to normal chunks.
Warning!!
SIDE NOTE!!!! With the new way levels are loaded via running a server even in SSP it takes a bit of time to initially load a level you may experience blackness for up to a minute before it actually loads the chunks on the higher settings! Just wait it will load! Epecially on new levels!!
Server Properties/View.Txt settings need to be changed for the mod to work!!!!!
Default is 10 in View.txt/Default is "view-distance=10" in the server.Properties
This is how many chunks from the player that will load. ONLY CHANGE THE NUMBER.
You can adjust it up to 24, recommended is 20 that is double view.
For better in game performance with crappy computers you can also use this mod to lower the amount of chunks the server loads from 10 down to as low as 3 this should help on computers that are having issues with the new client being hardcoded to load 10 chunks out regardless of in game settings.
Enjoy!
Want to add spinning fans that push and pull objects?!? check out my Rotator mod.
Brilliant. I love it. Now I wish my computer could handle it *coughstupidnotchusedjavacough*
I think I'm going to release another version that only increases it by 50% instead of 100% as well, that should help with the performance issues. Keep an eye out for it in the next day or so, I have to do some stuff around the house first heh
You'll mostly notice on a slower computer when generating new terrain, or the change from day/night that seems to really kill it having to update all the lighting on all those new chunks.
Also if you give it time to load for a few seconds when you first start your level it will help a lot, that way it has a chance to catch up.
Do you know with what number the view distance is multiplied when switching from far to very far (when having the Very Far Render Distance Mod). I would like to know for comparison^^
If I travel far enough in one direction, then turn back around, the chunks that WERE behind me (and are now in front of me) de-load and re-load from two to six chunks in front of me. All of them. And as I get closer to them, they continue doing that one chunk further out.
And it's not even giving me any further of a render - it just keeps chunks in the memory for a little further out.

The very far mod I think increased the view by double but I think only at the "very far setting", Honestly I'm not sure I was working on my mod and had it mostly working before I even knew about it. Like back at the beginning of march but I had chunk updating problems.
I think I'm going to make a 50% version for the people having issues. That would still give us a bit more than the very far distance mod but without quite the performance hit.
Honestly I don't understand why so many people have so many problems with mods Like this and 256 textures, I think it's people using a 32bit OS, or 32bit java on a 64bit OS.
I have a pretty crappy computer and it runs fine, I get 30-40fps with a 9800gt 1gb and a core 2 duo 4 gigs of ram.
I'll look into the bug with you turning around and things appearing or whatever, I'll see if I can recreate it and fix it.
Edit: I have discovered another bug, but I don't get it. When I make a new level or the game generates new chunks in the normal client it crashes, when I do it with MCP test client it doesn't I'm stumped I had only tested pre existing levels in the normal client so I hadn't realized it was doing this. I'm going to try to fix it tonite.

Hadn't had a chance to upload any I'll post a day time one in a bit
Shouldn't be a compatibility issue, since I installed your mod on a clean install...
Does this require ModLoader?
EDIT: How foolish of me... I forgot to delete META-INF...
Yes all mods with the new MCP 2.10 now require modloader I beleive, also make sure you delete the "meta-inf" folder in your minecraft.jar

My texture pack "Minecraft Enhanced" it's a 256x 128x Minecraft themed Texture pack it comes with the better clouds by default

You need to rework your coding.

That doesn't sound like a crappy computer:D But it depends on the exact Core 2 duo specifications^^
