That is probably caused by the railcraft "residual heat" blocks (block.hidden in the railcraft config) that makes the tent think there's something in the way.
The mod should use isAir to check if the area is clear.

You can turn off the tracking blocks by setting block.hidden to 0 in the railcraft config until tomtomtom09 has implemented isAir.

I've implemented it to the small tent and seems to be working fine, just need to implement it for the rest of the tent now so you should be able to use tents with railcraft properly in the 1.6.* update

But in the end it's probably worth it

Also, trap ideas:Stick/rod with a carrot on it, underneath a basket, when an animal wants to eat the carrot and gets close, the basket falls on it.
I mean like in the game Don't Starve:
The basket could be sortof like an upside down minecart which is sortof suspended in the air when placed.
The trap/block would then be 2 blocks high, and the bottom block wouldn't be solid, animals can walk through. But when an animal walks underneath, the basket falls over the animal, trapping it.
