XENONE'S HOUSE MOD! V1.7 This mod makes recipes for blocks that build preset houses when clicked.
This mod has completely changed:
I have temporarily taken away pretty much every house. I am going to start over and convert the houses' code into text files that the new mod can read. I have a sample house included in the latest version and I am working on a video on how to make your own custom house.
There are some new recipes, as I have temporarily taken away the old ones:
Where brick is redstone dust. This makes a Powered Cobblestone block ( ) which will have more uses later.
Smelting a block will give you a redstone orb ( ) which will also have additional uses later.
Will give you a custom house block. There is also a regular house block, but it currently has no use.
The custom house block reads a file in your minecraft folder (not the jar), which can be edited in-game. This file is called test.txt. Feel free to make your own custom houses by editing this file and then post them/pm them. I might even add them.
Things I am going to work on with text files:
Tile Entity changes, for filling chests with other blocks/items or writing on signs.
Editable starting layer. Currently, it starts on layer -1 (right beneath the space the block is placed).
Props file. Currently, the blocks IDs are 121, 122, and 123 and the item ID for a redstone orb is 221.
A new video. A tutorial video too, for customizing houses.
I am going to work on brining back the previous houses. I don't even need to make new java files, just new text files. But it will probably take a little while.
Also, here's a video of me using the mod (old version).
I will post a video for v1.7 as soon as I can. The future for this mod:
I hope to:
Make it SMP compatible.
Add compatibility with blueprint-like files, so making new buildings is easier. DONE!
Develop more house recipes for this mod (user contributions are appreciated, PM with code or a rough layout and I'll try to add it along with your name to the next update).
Get custom textures for the blocks. Kinda done... Done for now. Sorry to those who contributed textures, I decided to just make my own...
Add a gui to the house block. I am planning on only having one block that is filled with certain ingredients like a chest. Depending on its contents, a house will pop up when it is powered by redstone.
If you have anything to add to this list, send me a PM or reply to this post!
Please post any suggestions you might have and any PM me with any problems you are getting.
PM me with code for new buildings.
v1.4 Added methods for packing up houses and tents - see the readme or video!
v1.5 Added wall item, changed some recipes, added minehut, added spiral staircases, added new house, put blocks like beds, doors, and ladders in chests.
v1.6 MC 1.4_01 compatibility + item texture overrides: No more item.png file conflicts!
v1.6_01 MC 1.6.6 compatibility... Finally.
v1.7 MC 1.7.3 compatibility... Took longer than I thought. Also, took away most of the houses because I am starting from scratch with this mod. Don't worry, they will be added back in again. Just with better formatting.
Feel free to post changes and ideas you may have! THANKS TO PANSHJO FOR HIS SPRITES!
I made a banner! Support the House Mod!
Here's the code:
If you want to be a tester for this mod, PM me!
It's really simple and easy, I just don't have the time to do it myself.
jampot5000 - for help with coding
Extrusion - for help with coding
simo_415 - for original house code (which I am no longer using, but he had the idea)
Panshjo - for sprites
I'm not sure how hard it would be, but if this could somehow be combined with [builders] mod, it would be phenomenal!
I think he currently has a bit of generic buildings, and I am guessing that is because the way to code a house in java is kind of confusing unless you are a java master.
If there was maybe a gui for simply creating a house structure and then translating that into java there would be a huge variety of really great house concepts and designs that could be implemented into both mods.
Universal house recipes that all mods could use = Severe win!!

I totally agree!
I'm going to contact the guy working on the Builders mod to see if we can integrate our mods. Before I do that though, I'm going to make sprites and textures for the blocks.
I'm hoping to eventually have house items that can be combined into, say, a mansion or skyscraper, which would have hard to find materials.
Someone should come up with a building program like you suggested. It would be SOOO helpful.
Sorry about the title, just fixed it.
And about compatibility with modloader I'm actually not sure. I'm going to test it out tomorrow and update the post.
Also, I think I might have found a way to make modeling the buildings a lot easier. I'll have more info on that soon.
Feel free to post anything you like or dislike about my post or mod (I will hopefully have some new stuff soon) because I'm new to modding and can use the advice!
To answer the ModLoader compatibility, IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE. I tried it and, while it loaded minecraft fine, it didn't load the mod. Also, if you try it with other mods and modloader, and those mods use the same files as my mod, it will mess the mods up. I'm going to be working on ModLoader compatibility soon.
Currently, I'm about to release 1.1 of this mod (possibly later today), but I need to ask a quick question: I'm trying to create a custom texture for the House block and I am running into some problems. I've already edited the terrain.png file with my custom texture, but I need to know how to access it (how to find the coordinates). Also, if someone could make a tutorial for adding custom textures to mods, it would be really helpful.
I really like the idea of this mod, but I had some questions.
1. It gives you a "house" block, that when placed it just snaps a whole house into place? Is that correct?
2. It takes *far* fewer wood/stone to create the house block than building it would take? I'm all for time-saving when it comes to placing blocks, but it would seem like creating a house would require the correct number of wood/stone. So you would need to place like... three stacks of each in the correct combination or something, instead of just a few single blocks.
As said above, I added a door and a bed, but due to my inability to program in blocks and items that take up more than one space, they create a half bed and half door. Just destroy the door or bed and it will appear in your inventory and you can replace it.
Also, I added a poll at the top of this post. Please use it as it will help me focus on what I should do in future updates.
In the next update, I am going to add two things:
Modloader compatibility (hopefully for more than one version) because that got the most votes.
And tents. Tents will be made out of the materials it takes to craft them, so when your done using them, you can take the blocks, craft a new tent, and carry it away.
Expect the update this week. I have midterms next week so I won't be working on this then, but the week after that is spring break.
To answer the above question, the houses can not be picked up. In fact right now they can't be dug by the player because it is currently set at left click (soon to change).
Also, in the next update, there will be recipes for log, cobblestone, glass (which might help in making underwater bases), and obsidian houses. They will all have the default model.
I will take a pic of the interior of the house tomorrow, but for right now, I'll describe it:
It has a bed, crafting table, chest, forge, and there will soon be torches and maybe even a picture frame :smile.gif:
Tents are coming in the next update! They are small but contain everything needed for long distance travel (ie a bed, torch, and tent. The great thing is, the tent model is already made and I am just working on modloader!
