Dear OP,
It occurs to me, as a rabid fan of this mod, as if by premonition, that you will find yourself unmotivated to redo this for the new Minecraft system. I've found myself both awed and disgusted with Notch's baby animal system, and I wish to implore you to continue this mod in the come of the final Minecraft version. Notch has stated his happiness with his current deformed animals, and I feel he has slight reason to be proud of his decision, as he made many decisions for the sake of ease of development in his own future. But the Modding community has thrived not just on new content, but on tweaks and fixes. I cannot help but smile at the sight of the new animal families that form around the birth of a young animal, and that, I realize, wasn't even possible in your mod, as your baby animals were the result of a magic potion, as opposed to parenting, and your baby animals didn't grow naturally. I know this was all intentional, and in fact see glorious value in both. Here is my preposition for the future of the content introduced in this mod:
You made some beautiful models for your baby animals. particularly the lamb and wolf pup. My 1.7.3 worlds revolved around my baby animals, but in the new Minecraft, Notch's implementation leaves me devoid of sentiment towards the clunkheaded beasts in the long term.
You might find your mod working quite nicely in Notch's scheme if you work to mesh your shining points with his. Use your animal models instead of his. Use your sounds instead of his (chirping chicks instaed of clucking walking heads) and also implement your leash system. You also made seeds make animals follow you. Maybe instead you could make sugar useful. This would fix a very relevant problem with Notch's persistant animal system, in that they are intollerably stupid, and more often than not, when you breed two animals, the baby bolts out of the pen at the first chance it gets, and will not respond to any direction until it is adult.
Even if you find no value in my proposition, please know that your mod here is what first hooked me into playing Minecraft regularly, and I very much hope the farming experience you gave us never finds itself patched out of existance. You outdid Mojang before they even tried what you were doing. They get payed millions and when they implement this feature, they can't even match the level of hobby modders. I sincerely hope your content remains a part of my gaming experience.
Don't worry, I have every intention of at least trying to integrate some of my mod into the vanilla system, with the main objective of 'fixing' the models and implementing the seeds/lasso. With the feature freeze and pre-release updates it's been difficult to keep up, and my version of 1.8.1 is so laggy it makes it impossible to get the animals working, which is why I haven't updated since 1.7.3. As always, my main concern is compatibility with other mods and I fear that there won't be a way to continue mine without overwriting vanilla code and compromising compatibility.
I was happy that my mod got Mojang's attention but certainly had no expectations of them using it. I just wanted to make it clear to them that I didn't have any grandiose ideas of ownership and that they were welcome to it if they wanted it. After Notch's baby animals were added, Jeb told me 'personally' via Twitter (without me even asking) that Notch wanted to make the babies the way he did so that they would be more modular. This means that it's probably not going to be as simple as swapping the models.
Anyway, I'll have more time after Minecon (I've registered and we have our kiosk paid for but I never got my cape :dry.gif:) to work on the mod. As I've said before, I'll let everyone know if/when I've given up on it
would you consider releasing what you have already done for 1.81 and the lagging issue? Knowing well enough that this would be an issue and see if my increased Minecraft memory allocation from 512mb to 2gb would not have this issue.
Anyways, thanks for this great mod and have a good time at Minecon!
You think that maybe when the final release come out you could make a patch for Notches baby's to use your models and textures because yours where so cute and his are so ugly.
Edit: oh i just read the post half a page up.
Looking forward to your fix when you get around to it. <3 you coco
THEY LOOK SO ADORABLE
this needs to be added :biggrin.gif:
maybe an adult should lay on top of another and it will get thicker, and spawn a baby
Haha.. A little to much detail for a game dont you think? xD But I think that maybe one of the animals (Who knows which is female or male)the male would stand behind the female and jump up and down LOL XD But i like your idea about the female getting fatter, thatll be awsome!
Here you go Baby Animals Mod for 1.8.1. I think this one has 130ish errors compiling, and wouldn't decompile right. Then i forgot to change the render code and i had invisible baby animals :wink.gif:. quite a lot got in my way but still only took a couple hours.
So as I understand it you don't want to update the mod because Notch's one is sufficient and yours would basically duplicate what's already there, correct?
I ask of you then is to update the puppies, on the grounds that I love and miss them and their so freaking cute. There would be no need to add miracle potions and such, I just want puppies. It would rock if you could use your sprite/graphics for them.
Alright, I'm going to work on a version for Minecraft 1.0.x. I finally had a chance to play around with the 1.8.1 update with my mod and I realized how much I missed my own little babies. It's probably not going to get as many downloads and such, but I don't care, that's not why I made it in the first place.
What you can probably expect is a standalone version of baby animals that will work alongside the babies that Mojang added. Weird? Yes. But I'm only going to use my own, so there won't be any of the other ones in my world anyway.
It's going to take a little time since some things are going to have to be re-worked.
I wish he like bought the mod idea off you, his baby animals suck. Like really notch you make farming difficult, getting food difficult at first, and really just to screw with us you just shrink they're bodies and add huge heads? I wish you modders could just take over minecraft cause honestly, Notch can't make anything good now a days..

I'd download for sure, i remember playing with your mod back in 1.7.3, i loved it. Hope you can get it updated for 1.0, best of luck (:
Some of the interactions are broken and need fixing/tweaking, but I've got the little guys running around in 1.0.0, so things are looking good!
Any way you can make them not use attackentity to follow you when you hold wheat? There are mods that rely on attackentity to determine what mobs are "bad" and what aren't.

A reckoning is not to be postponed indefinitely. Lacre cannot bury the law. All shall be well and all manner of things shall be well.

Thank you, that is all.
