yes, they have the mods installed, same version of forge as well.
I used your 1.6.4 all the time and there were no issue over LAN.
Let me put it this way, if I start a map, I can use the compass, but others over the LAN cannot. If someone else starts a LAN and I join, I cannot use the compass but the person who started the map can.
When I join the LAN, I still get the message that the Finder compass mod is active with the three custom settings.
when I said "settings" in my first post, I meant config file
And do they have the "item" setting on the same value as you? The one enabling the ITEM?
The needles are being shared through the network, however for items thats not possible as the connection happens far too late (way after item generation)
everything should be the same as none of us have changed anything in minecraft other than loading forge and your compass/battle towers. but I will double check when I get a chance.
we have the compass as a new item, it shows up different from the normal compass. We use a different texture pack so the finder compass uses the original minecraft compass texture so we can easily differentiate btw the two. We can all right click and cycle through the modes and get a chat window saying which mode we are in, but no one other than the starter of the LAN can see the needles. The same goes with when the finders compass is not a new item and is used in conjunction with the actual compass. Which brings us to the comment of you saying the needles are shared through the network.
I think I follow what you are saying with the network, but I am not too confident on that. I'm just a little perplexed b/c we don't have this issue with 1.6.4. Then again, I realize minecraft 1.7.2 is a different animal than 1.6.4 from what I gather and changed things around.
how do I install it for 1.7.2 It looks interesting so i want to try it out, but there is no readme in the .zip and what do you mean extract/setup/ folder, I see no setup in the .zip?

What exactly does your and your friends' config say about B:isFinderCompassNewItem=
The 1.7.2 version will only ever render on the new item or the vanilla compass, never on both (might have been a bug before)

when we have it set to this, we get the new item named "finder compass" that is a stand alone item. Can only get it when in creative. and the normal compass remains a normal compass. So there are two compasses.
B:isFinderCompassNewItem=false
when we have it set to this, we can craft the finders compass with the normal crafting recipe for a compass. In a sense, the finders compass replaces the normal compass, but it retains our texture pack for the compass so it doesn't look like the vanilla compass as it does when the finders compass is its stand alone item.
I also applied this mod to a server (based from my computer) in both true and false statements, in those instances, no one could get any needles to show up. BattleTowers works great though
Doesn't seem to be working. Instructions in the first post are also a bit off. Using Forge Mod Loader v10.x and Finder Compass 1.7.2 while playing Survival Single Player mode.
First time I started Minecraft, FML said the mod was loaded, but manipulating the compass did nothing. I had to quit Minecraft, and start it a second time. (Maybe the default config files aren't loaded after being created the first time?)
The instructions in the first page say:
Short tutorial, FML VERSION: Install FML according to it's instructions. Read readme file inside zip you downloaded.
There is no readme file inside FinderCompass_1.7.2.zip
The instructions in the first page say:
Take your standard compass into your hand and USE it to swap between Settings.
Using the compass (right-click) does nothing. Hitting a block with the compass (left-click) will make a clicking sound and text message appears on the console to say "Finder Compass Mode: Working Man's Mineables"
Once I have the compass in-hand, and I've hit blocks until it says "Working Man's Mineables" (which, according to config/FinderCompass.cfg should include gold, iron, and coal), the compass does not react when I am standing near coal (ore) blocks. I am not using a custom textures resource pack, nor am I using any mods aside from the three that are built-in to Forge Mod Loader, and FinderCompass itself.
I reserve the liberty of not responding to posts stating ("It crashes", "doesn't work") and so on unless you provide an error message or log. Read the included textfile.
There is no error message -- it is not working as described (well, not decribed since there is no description, just YouTube videos). You do not specify which log I am to enclose -- I assume you mean the log files in the 'crash-reports/' folder, but none was generated when testing the FinderCompass mod. And as I've already mentioned above: there is no included textfile inside FinderCompass_1.7.2.zip.

I'll have to test this myself when i find the time. For now, try telling your friends to set the itemEnabled to false, the vanilla mc compass should then show the needles for them. Note the trigger for swapping settings on vanilla compass is 'dig' (left mouse) instead of right mouse as before, in 172
there is a way to refresh manually the findercompass with a key-button or somehow? this because sometimes the needle seems still point to an ore just taken ...
You need to move for the compass to update. Move atleast 1 block in any direction.
@Mozai
I just checked against my Forge 998 MC, it works.
Hello, I have been using your mod for a while now and really like it. However I also find a few thing a bit irritating and have three small requests.
1) The config file for adding more blocks and corresponding needles to a setting is very handy if you have other mods installed, but if that mod uses meta data for its ores that becomes a problem. For example Thermal Expansion 3 adds five new ores each with a block ID of 2001 but each one with a different meta data. If you could add something in the config file that supports metadatas of a block that would be very helpful.
2) I usually don't care for texture packs but I've been using a larger texture pack purely so I can have the more detailed and accurate compass. If there is a way to use one of your 32x32 compasses without having to use a larger texture packs I would really like to know how as the 16x16 compass isn't accurate enough for me.
3) The last thing is that I find the red vanilla compass needle very annoying when I'm down mining. I would love for there to be a way to turn it off the way the stronghold compass can be turned off in each individual setting in the config file.
Edit: Forget the first one I just found the config option to add damage values
I keep getting this error, I have tried different forge versions, and I do have other mods installed, but I have tested with out other mods.
EDIT: It only happens when the compass is in my hotbar, or in my inventory when my inventory is open.

Hello, I have been using your mod for a while now and really like it. However I also find a few thing a bit irritating and have three small requests.
3) The last thing is that I find the red vanilla compass needle very annoying when I'm down mining. I would love for there to be a way to turn it off the way the stronghold compass can be turned off in each individual setting in the config file.
Edit: Forget the first one I just found the config option to add damage values
Im Having this issue too cannot turn off the Red Compass
I have tried
NoDefaultNeedle
NoEnderEyeNeedle
Throughout my config I just cannot turn it off.
But still the red Compass is always on.
Using Latests Version of Forge Finder Compass etc
Forge 10.12.0.955
Finder Compass 1.7.2a
The red needle can no longer be removed (unless you are using the Finder compass item) because i no longer hack the texture. I just draw my needles ontop.
The needles are being shared through the network, however for items thats not possible as the connection happens far too late (way after item generation)
I think I follow what you are saying with the network, but I am not too confident on that. I'm just a little perplexed b/c we don't have this issue with 1.6.4. Then again, I realize minecraft 1.7.2 is a different animal than 1.6.4 from what I gather and changed things around.
What exactly does your and your friends' config say about B:isFinderCompassNewItem=
The 1.7.2 version will only ever render on the new item or the vanilla compass, never on both (might have been a bug before)
Old instructions, new version is drag and drop
when we have it set to this, we get the new item named "finder compass" that is a stand alone item.
First time I started Minecraft, FML said the mod was loaded, but manipulating the compass did nothing. I had to quit Minecraft, and start it a second time. (Maybe the default config files aren't loaded after being created the first time?)
The instructions in the first page say:
There is no readme file inside FinderCompass_1.7.2.zip
The instructions in the first page say:
Note the trigger for swapping settings on vanilla compass is 'dig' (left mouse) instead of right mouse as before, in 172
You need to move for the compass to update. Move atleast 1 block in any direction.
@Mozai
I just checked against my Forge 998 MC, it works.
That did the trick. MCF 10.12.0.991 -- nope. MCF 10.12.0.998 -- yes. Must've been something MCF fixed between versions.
MCF says it wants to see an 'mcmod.info' file in the *.zip ... but there is one right there in the *.zip. Another weirdness about MCF.
Edit: Forget the first one I just found the config option to add damage values
fixed ConcurrentModificationException crash
EDIT: It only happens when the compass is in my hotbar, or in my inventory when my inventory is open.
