UGH! No matter how many times I delete the bin folder, use MCpatcher, run this code
cd ~
mkdir mctmp
cd mctmp
jar xf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar
install FinderCompass, then this code
rm META-INF/MOJANG_C.*
jar uf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar ./
cd ..
rm -rf mctmp
and it just freezes at the MOJANG screen! And, of course, on Macs, you can't delete the WHOLE META-INF folder. Only that MOJANG_C.* thing. And I am using the default texture pack on a minecraft.jar that has no other mods on it. ANNOYING. Here is the error log (used MCpatcher for it, test minecraft is useful that way!):

Look at my avatar. A few of you may know what this is from. Most will not. Probably because it shut down several years ago. But those were fun times while they lasted.
OH NOES!! IT WORKS IN SMP! HERE CUMS DA TRULLLSSS.
Watch out for 'dem mod sirens. They can't seem to make up their mind as to the difference between a mod and a hack and deem it their job to be the police of minecraft.
Sad that this mod is unscathed while others that do less are not.. according to the rules this is not possible without a mod. And it doesn't seem to alert the server. Hypocrites much? Yes, much.
/sigh
Just saying.
Thanks for making this though :]
I like it better than just digging towards the blue.
AtomicStryker, could you post a quick tutorial or something informing us all on how to add other needles, if possible.
Thanks in advance.
Dude, quite frankly, I think this modder is tired of our stupidity and naivety. Honestly, all the problems you've been having installing, etc. have been resolved in one way or another throughout this entire thread!
Start at the beginning and just sift through the pages (its only 8 or so now, dont be so lazy peoples), there will be insight to ant problem you are having.
Long story short, add the ".class" file to your minecraft.jar and the ".cfg" file to your minecraft Folder. Then edit the needles through the cfg file in the minecraft folder.

I did install it properly, and it worked fine. I just don't understand what program, or tool, you use to open the .cfg file and manipulate it in a way that would allow me to add more needles.
EDIT: Nevermind, i just realized they can be opened with notepad, sorry about that.
After at least 10 tries i got it to work ( sort of )
It doesn't crash when starting up mc, BUT the compass doesn't show any other needles than the red one...
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
step 1: clean install of mc
step 2: run mc patcher ( i set the texture to 64 or 128 )
step 3: config in the right place, copied the files 2 minecraft.jar
So any tips/ help would be much appriciated :smile.gif:
Edit: Also, i removed the backslashes in the config file

Upon loading you world, do you get a message in the borrom left saying something like: /minecraft.cfg/not found/..?

Idk, maybe you're just not near enough to what ever you set it to locate for you :smile.gif: a sure fire way to test is to go to where you know there's a dungeon/enemy spawner and see if the green line pops up (assuming you havent destroyed it). You do know that the scanrange is limited to 7 (I believe) by default. Meaning, you have to be in that vicinity of whatever you're looking for for the "needle to pop".
I hope you've tried the above, although it seems quite obvious, but I've definately thought it wasnt working at times and I just wasnt close enough to stuff. It sounds like you're doing everything else proper, installation-wise, thats the only thing I can think of. Sry.

I've set the scanrange to 15, also enabled gold ( removing the backslashes)
This might be a stupid q: Does it work on solid blocks, or does it have to be "raw"?
Also, thanks so much for your replies :smile.gif:
Edit: Did another fresh install bit by bit, the game now crashes after mahjong loading screen when i put the aj.class in the minecraft.jar

Which part of "it doesn't work without mcpatcher, version 2..." should i repeat for you
AFAIK you cannot use Optimine before mcpatcher without breaking mcpatcher. However im fairly certain you can put in Optimine after having it mcpatched, and it would work.

Interestingly enough, the beta3 version of MCpatcher (get it here http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=252531) worked for me. The "latest" version of MCpatcher interestingly didn't add the tilesize, and the beta3 did. Nice mod, but when I put the config in the bin folder it didn't load the config. Still cool, found a lot of diamonds this way and even a dungeon.
EDIT: Got the custom needles working. Gonna test if ModLoader is compatible with this so I can just find a lot of stuff for my crafting :biggrin.gif:. Awesome mod, 3/5 for the technical difficulties with this. Otherwise, 4/5.
EDIT2: Nope, no ModLoader support. Just for kicks, here's the error log:
