i installed forge and tested. it worked great. i patched afterwards and commenced compass install. for that i put the setup folder in .minecraft, put the mod zip folder in mods, and the cfg folder into .minecraft config. i have no idea what i did wrong.
edit: out of curiosity, i undid the compass install and it's still crashing, which tells me it's not the mod. can/would someone tell me what's going on anyway?
Hi Atomic. Just curious, Is it normal for the compass to not work at all with certain resource packs? I'm using a custom version of Soartex Fanver 64x, and for some reason the needles do not show up at all on that pack. When I switch to any of my others, though, the needles are there and working. What is going on?

Yeah, if you read back through some, you'll see that. He might be working on it? I carry an extra 16x, just to use the compass. Pain in the butt, but better than nothing I guess.
Well i checked with Soartex Fanver 64 and it worked for me.
Are you using Optifine on top of that? I haven't even looked at the current Optifine yet
I don't use optifine. The other thing in this version: the compass doesn't continue to work while in the hotbar---have to keep putting it in your hand for it to update.
Just checked against the first really Forge-compatible Optifine C1. Finder Compass works at 16x resolution, but no needles at 64x. I'll look into it, when i have time.

I haven't updated to C1 Ultra yet, I'm gonna try that right now. With Forge sometimes not working with Optifine, I followed a Java Paramaters insert of: -Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true. Could that have anything to do with it?

It does work at 16x, if you're actually holding it. Used to be able to just watch it (update/move) in the hotbar.
For me it works just fine with Optifine C1, both 16x and 32x textures, in hand or inventory/hotbar. For some reason 64x doesnt, but the compass texture updater is being ticked (i checked). I'll have to ask spx what he is doing with the textures.
I want to preface this by saying that your mods are among my favorites; I never play without dynamic lights, ropes+ or finder compass. That being said, I do have a minor bug with finder compass. The compass is blue, and void of needles. I'm playing with the vanilla TP, and a correctly installed version of Forge on MC 1.5.2. I've also installed OptiFine, and a couple other minor mods that I'm almost certain wouldn't affect the compass.
...On some servers, the compass spins around as I walk from block to block, with each step sending the needle in a different direction. Is this a counter program?
How do I add an id that has multiple sub-block. For example: i want to add ferrous ore which has 925:4 as id. If I add 925 the needle shows 925:1, 925:2,etc... . If I add 925:4 the needle obviously changes its color.
EDIT: Nevermind I got it. At the end of the line I added :4 and this seems to work.
Excellent mod. Works great, and haven't had any troubles with it after reading the instructions in the zip file. I actually came across this while looking for a player tracker mod similar to what is used in some Hunger Games servers. Is there any outlook for the addition of a "player tracker" needle so I can hunt my friends while I'm hunting for diamonds?
Eh, i'm using OpenGL which i barely understand and 1281 is "texture resolution something something". 1.7 will probably end this mod anyway, unless i can figure out how to do a clean recode
